State-of-the-Art management of knee osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis(OA) is the most common type of arthritis found in the United States' population and is also the most common disease of joints in adults throughout the world with the knee being the most frequently affected of all joints. As the United States' population ages along with the increasing trends in obesity prevalence in other parts of the world, it is expected that the burden of OA on the population, healthcare system, and overall economy will continue to increase in the future without making major improvements in managing knee OA. Numerous therapies aim to reduce symptoms of knee OA and continued research has helped to further understand the complex pathophysiology of its disease mechanism attempting to uncover new potential targets for the treatment of OA. This review article seeks to evaluate the current practices for managing knee OA and discusses emerging therapies on the horizon. These practices include non-pharmacological treatments such as providing patient education and self-management strategies, advising weight loss, strengthening programs, and addressing biomechanical issues with bracing or foot orthoses. Oral analgesics and anti-inflammatories are pharmacologicals that are commonly used and the literature overall supports that some of these medications can be helpful for managing knee OA in the short-term but are less effective for long-term management. Additionally, more prolonged use significantly increases the risk of serious associated side effects that are not too uncommon. Diseasemodifying osteoarthritis drugs are being researched as a treatment modality to potentially halt or slow disease progression but data at this time is limited and continued studies are being conducted to further investigate their effectiveness. Biochemical changes in grape rootstocks resulted from humic acid treatments in relation to nematode infection

Objective:To investigate the effect of humic acid on nematode infected,resistant and susceptible grapes in relation to lipid peroxidation and antioxidant mechanisms on selected biochemical parameters known as proactive ***:The grape rootstocks,superior,superior/ freedom and freedom were reacted differently to Meloidogyne incognita and Rotylenchulus reniformis according to rootstock *** weeks after inoculation,two commercial products of humic acid were applied at the rate of(2,4 mL or grams/plant) as soil *** 4 months,nematode soil populations were extracted and counted.A subsample of roots from each plant was stained and gall numbers,embedded stages per root were calculated,final population, nematode build up(Pf/Pi),average of eggs/eggmass were *** of fresh root of each treatment were chemically ***:Freedom reduced significantly the nematode criteria and build *** acid granules appeared to be more suppressive to nematode build up on superior and the higher dose on superior/freedom than liquid *** freedom,all treatments reduced significantly the nematode build up regardless to the material *** higher dose was more effective than the lower *** a result of humic acid applications,the malondialdehyde(MDA) and h_2O_2 contents were significandy reduced after humic acid treatments while the antioxidant compounds glutathione(GSh),ascorbic acid(ASA) and total phenol contents were significandy increased when compared with *** defense enzymes ascorbate peroxidase(AFX),superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT) and polyphenol oxidase(PPO) showed significant increase in their specific activities in treated plants compared with nematode treated ***:humic acid treatments improve we yield of grape by increasing the contents of antioxidant compounds and the specific activities of antioxidant enzymes.

Delta Excitation in Compressed Neutron-Rich Double Magic Spherical Finite Nucleus ^(132)Sn

The ground state properties of 132Sn at equilibrium and at large compression are investigated,within the framework of the radially constrained spherical hartree-Fock(CShF)*** delta resonance effects on the properties of neutron-rich double magic spherical nucleus,132Sn,in its ground state and the state under static compression are *** sensitivity of the nucleon size and Δ model spaces is *** equilibrium,mixing between nucleon and Δ's in the largest model space of nine major nucleon shells plus 10 Δ orbitals was *** the nucleon model space has a larger effect on reducing the static compression modulus and softe-ning the nuclear equation of state than increasing the number of Δ *** was found that the most of the increase in the nuclear energy generated under compression is used to create the massive Δ *** 132Sn nucleus under compression at 12 times the normal nuclear density,the excited nucleons to Δ's increased sharply up to 13% of the total number of *** result is consistent with the values extracted from relativistic heavy-ion *** single particle energy levels calculated and their behaviors under compression are examined too.A good agreement between results with effective hamiltonian and the phenomenological shell model for the low lying single-particle spectra is obtained.

Patient tracking in earthquake emergency response in Iran： A qualitative study

BACKGROUND: After a disaster, all victims have to be rapidly and accurately identified for locating, tracking and regulating them. The purpose of this study was to summarize people's experiences that how the patients were tracked in past earthquake disasters in ***: A qualitative study was carried out in 2015. This was an interview-based qualitative study using content analysis. The interviewed people included physicians, nurses, emergency medical technicians, disaster managers, Red Crescent Society' first responders and managers. Participants were identified using a snow ball sampling method. Interviews were audiotaped, transcribed, coded, and entered into MAXQDA(version 10) for coding and content ***: Three main themes and seven categories including content(recoding data), function(identification of victims, identification of the deceased, informing the patients' relatives, patients' evacuation and transfer, and statistical reporting), technology(the state of using technology) were identifi ed that showed the patient tracking status in past earthquakes in ***: Participants believed that to identify and register the data related to patients or the dead, no consistent action plan was available. So developing a consistent patient tracking system could overcome this issue and improve patient safety.

Provenance variation in cone and seed characteristics of Cedrus deodara (***) *** in Jammu and Kashmir

The present study was carried out in Jammu and Kashmir （India） and twelve sites spread across the entire state were selected. Variability studies in different seed sources of Cedrus deodara with respect to cone, seed and seedling traits were studies. The studies revealed significant variation in different cone and seed characteristics studied. A negative correlation existed in cone diam- eter and cone weight with altitude. Seed morphological characteristics （seed length, width and weight）, seed germination and number of cotyledons which form the basis of selecting and delineating provenances also correlated negatively with altitude. Cone length and diameter, seed length and width and hypocotyl length increased from North to South and correlated negatively with latitude. The results further revealed the superiority ＆heavier cones and seeds with respect to seed germination. The study reveals that for delineating seed zones, provenance selection should be within an altitudinal range of 1500-1900 m a.s.l, and northern aspect seed sources be preferred.

An increasing number of childbearing agewomen undergo liver transplantation(LT)in the United *** in this patient subgroup poses a significant challenge regarding the plans for future fertility,particularly in terms of immunosuppression and optimal timing of *** LT is only rarely performed as the outcome is commonly dismal for the mother or more commonly the *** the other hand,the outcomes of pregnancy in LT recipients are favorable,and children born to LT recipients are relatively *** on pregnancy should start before LT and continue after LT up until pregnancy,while all pregnant LT recipients must be managed by amultidisciplinary team,including both an obstetrician and a transplant ***,an interval of at least 1-2 years after successful LT is recommended before considering ***-induced hypertension,pre-eclampsia,and gestational diabetes mellitus are reported more commonly during the pregnancies of LT recipients than in the pregnancies of non-transplant *** adverse fetal outcomes,such asmiscarriage,abortion,stillbirth,or ectopic pregnancy,may occur more often than in the non-transplant population,early planning or delivery either through a planned induction of labor or cesarean section is critical to minimize the risk of *** significant long-term physical or phycological abnormalities have been reported in children born to LT recipients.

Stress and deformation analysis of gob-side pre-backfill driving procedure of longwall mining:a case study

At present,non-pillar entry protection in longwall mining is mainly achieved through either the gob-side entry retaining(GER)procedure or the gob-side entry driving(GED)*** GER procedure leads to difficulties in maintaining the roadway in mining both the previous and current panels.A narrow coal pillar about 5-7 m must be left in the GED procedure;therefore,it causes permanent loss of some *** gob-side pre-backfill driving(GPD)procedure effectively removes the wasting of coal resources that exists in the GED procedure and finds an alternative way to handle the roadway maintenance problem that exists in the GER *** FLAC^(3D) software was used to numerically investigate the stress and deformation distributions and failure of the rock mass surrounding the previous and current panel roadways during each stage of the GPD procedure which requires"twice excavation and mining".The results show that the stress distribution is slightly asymmetric around the previous panel roadway after the"primary excavation".The stronger and stiffer backfill compared to the coal turned out to be the main bearing body of the previous panel roadway during the"primary mining".The highest vertical stresses of 32.6 and 23.1 MPa,compared to the in-situ stress of 10.5 MPa,appeared in the backfill wall and coal seam,*** the"primary mining",the peak vertical stress under the coal seam at the floor level was slightly higher(18.1 MPa)than that under the backfill(17.8 MPa).After the"secondary excavation",the peak vertical stress under the coal seam at the floor level was slightly lower(18.7 MPa)than that under the backfill(19.8 MPa);the maximum floor heave and maximum roof sag of the current panel roadway were 252.9 and 322.1 mm,*** the"secondary mining",the stress distribution in the rock mass surrounding the current panel roadway was mainly affected by the superposition of the front abutment pressure from the current panel and the side abutment p

Each year approximately 360,000 people in the United States suffer a peripheral nerve injury （PNI）, which is a leading source of lifelong disability （Kelsey et al., 1997; Noble et al., 1998）. The most frequent cause of PNIs is motor vehicle accidents, while gunshot wounds, stabbings, and birth trauma are also common factors. Patients suffering from disabilities as a result of their PNIs are also burdensome to the healthcare system, with aver- age hospital stays of 28 days each year （Kelsey et al., 1997; Noble et al., 1998）.

Structure of A=11 double-Λ hypernuclei studied with three-body forces

The energy levels and AA bond energy of the double-A hypernucleus nBe are calculated considering two- and three-nucleon forces. The interactions between the constituent particles are contact interactions that reproduce the low-energy binding energy of the nuclei. Effective action is constructed to involve the three-body forces. In this paper, we compare the binding energy result that is obtained with the experimental and other modern nucleon- nucleon potentials. The results of all the schemes agree very well, showing the high accuracy of our present ability to calculate the many-nucleon bound state with three-body forces. The experimental value of BAA（Be）=20.83 MeV seems to be more compatible with our calculated value of BAA（Be）=-19.31 MeV in comparison with the calculated result of 18.23 MeV by hiyama et al.
