AIM:To illustrate the applic.tion and utility of Geographic.Information System(GIS) in exploring patterns of liver ***,we aim to desc.ibe the geographic.distribution of transplant registrations and identify disparities in ac.ess to liver transplantation ac.oss United Network of Organ Sharing(UNOS) region ***:Based on UNOS data,the number of listed transplant c.ndidates by ZIP c.de from 2003 to 2012 for Region 1 was ***(c.lor-c.ded) maps were used to visualize the geographic.distribution of transplant registrations ac.oss the *** interac.ion analysis was used to analyze the geographic.attern of total transplant registrations by ZIP *** tested inc.uded ZIP c.de log population and log distanc. from eac. ZIP c.de to the nearest transplant c.nter;ZIP c.de population density;distanc. from the nearest c.ty over 50000;and dummy variables for state residenc. and loc.tion in the southern portion of the ***:Visualization of transplant registrations revealed geographic.disparities in organ alloc.tion ac.oss Region *** total number of registrations was highest in the southern portion of the *** interac.ion analysis,after adjusting for the size of the underlying population,revealed statistic.lly signific.nt c.ustering of high and low rates in several geographic.areas c.uld not be predic.ed based solely on distanc. to the transplant c.nter or density of ***:GIS represents a new method to evaluate the ac.ess to liver transplantation within one region and c.n be used to identify the presenc. of disparities and reasons for their existenc. in order to alleviate them.
