The grooved carpet-shell clam Ruditapes decussatus is native to the Northern Atlantic and mediterranean Sea and has a high commercial *** is one of the main native bivalve species cultured in *** main objective of the present study was to gain further insights into the immunological repertoire of *** through a transcriptomic *** mantle samples of eight *** individuals were sequenced using Illumina platform.A total of 67132 contigs with more than 800 bp were *** annotation of these contigs revealed 146 immune-related *** gene families in which the highest number of immune-related genes was observed were:C1q domain-containing proteins(63),tumor necrosis factors(15)and toll-like receptors(TLRs,10).A total of 5359 putative single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)were identified in the 146 immune-related *** density of SNPs ranged between 0.04 and 7.92 SNPs/100 *** highest and the lowest SNP density were observed in genes of the C1q domain-containing protein *** to the importance of TLRs in innate immunity,we focused our attention on these membrane *** TLRs were identified based on protein domain *** analysis revealed that *** TLRs were diverse and only 3 showed orthology with TLRs of known immune functions in other bivalve ***,our analysis suggests that lineage restricted-expansions of TLRs occurred in all mollusc taxa analysed including in venerids.

Accuracy of tree mapping based on hand-held laser scanning comparing leaf-on and leaf-off conditions in mixed forests

The use of mobile laser scanning to survey forest ecosystems is a promising, scalable technology to describe forest 3D structures at high resolution. To confirm the consistency in the retrieval of forest structural parameters using hand-held laser scanning (HLS), before operationalizing the method, confirming the data is crucial. We analyzed the performance of tree-level mapping based on HLS under different phenology conditions on a mixed forest in western Spain comprising Pinus pinaster and two deciduous species, Alnus glutinosa and Quercus pyrenaica. The area was surveyed twice during the growing season (July 2022) and once in the deciduous season (February 2022) using several scanning paths. Ground reference data (418 trees, 15 snags) was used to calibrate the HLS data and to assess the influence of phenology when converting 3D data into tree-level attributes (DBH, height and volume). The HLS-based workflow was robust at isolating tree positions and recognizing stems despite changes in phenology. Ninety-six percent of all pairs matched below 65 cm. For DBH, phenology barely altered estimates. We observed a strong agreement when comparing HLS-based tree height distributions. The values exceeded 2 m when comparing height measurements, confirming height data should be carefully used as reference in remote sensing-based inventories, especially for deciduous species. Tree volume was more precise for pines (r = 0.95, and relative RmSE = 21.3 -23.8%) compared to deciduous species (r = 0.91 -0.96, and relative RmSE = 27.3-30.5%). HLS data and the forest structural complexity tool performed remarkably, especially in tree positioning considering mixed forests and mixed phenology conditions.

Background:Skeletal muscle energetics decline with age,and physical activity(PA)has been shown to offset these declines in older ***,many studies reporting these effects were based on self-reported PA or structured exercise ***,we examined the associations of accelerometry-measured and self-reported PA and sedentary behavior(SB)with skeletal muscle energetics and explored the extent to which PA and sedentary behavior would attenuate the associations of age with muscle ***:As part of the Study of muscle,mobility and Aging,enrolled older adults(n=879),810(age=76.4±5.0 years old,mean±SD;58%women)had maximal muscle oxidative capacity measured ex vivo via high-resolution re spirometry of permeabilized myofibers(maximal oxidative phosphorylation(maxOXPHOS))and in vivo by ^(31)phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy(maximal adenosine triphosphate(ATP_(max))).Accelerometry-measured sedentary behavior,light activity,and moderate-to-vigorous PA(mVPA)were assessed using a wrist-worn ActiGraph GT9X over 7 ***-reported sedentary behavior,mVPA,and all PA were assessed with the Community Healthy Activities model Program for Seniors(CHAmPS)*** regression models with progressive covariate adjustments evaluated the associations of sedentary behavior and PA with muscle energetics,as well as the attenuation of the age/muscle energetics association by mVP A and sedentary *** a sensitivity analysis,we also examined activPAL-measured daily step count and time spent in sedentary behavior and their associations with muscle ***:Every 30 min/day more of ActiGraph-measured mVPA was associated with 0.65 pmol/(s×mg)higher maxOXPHOS and 0.012 mm/s higher ATP_(max)after adjusting for age,site/technician,and sex(pmaxOXPHOS or ATP_(max).meanwhile,every 30 min/day spent in ActiGraph-measured sedentary behavior was associated with 0.39 pmol/s×mg lower maxOXPHOS and0.

The tropical arboreal species Brazilian mahogany(Swietenia macrophylla) is very important economically and ecologically,for which understanding ecophysiological variables such as sap flow will improve understanding of the species and its *** paper aims to measure uncertainties(U) involved in the application of the heat ratio method for determining sap flow in Brazilian mahogany using sets of heating probes and thermometers installed on plants of 18 months of age,cultivated in Yellow Latosol,under a weighing lysimeter and located in a protected *** uncertainty in sap flow was calculated as the combination of uncertainty in the thermal diffusivity(U_(k)),conductive section(U_(Sc)) and corrected sap velocity(U_(Vc)).U_(k) had greater weight in determining the flow of sap in Brazilian mahogany,when compared to U_(Sc) and U_(Vc).The thermal diffusivity during the cycle,or period evaluated,must be adjusted to improve the accuracy of the heat ratio method because the sap flow overestimated transpiration by 15.0%.When soil water was optimal In addition,the vapor pressure deficit linearly and indirectly influenced the SF with a difference of 14.6%.

The RNA modification N^6-methyladenosine and Its Implications in Human Disease

Impaired gene regulation lies at the heart of many disorders, including developmental diseases and cancer. Furthermore, the molecular pathways that control gene expression are often the target of cellular parasites, such as viruses. Gene expression is controlled through multiple mechanisms that are coordinated to ensure the proper and timely expression of each gene. many of these mechanisms target the life cycle of the RNA molecule, from transcription to translation. Recently, another layer of regulation at the RNA level involving RNA modifications has gained renewed interest of the scientific community. The discovery that N6-methyladenosine （m6A）, a mod- ification present in mRNAs and long noncoding RNAs, can be removed by the activity of RNA demethylases, launched the field of epitranscriptomics; the study of how RNA function is regulated through the addition or removal of post-transcriptional modifications, similar to strategies used to regulate gene expression at the DNA and protein level. The abundance of RNA post-transcriptional modifications is determined by the activity of writer complexes （methylase） and eraser （RNA demethylase） proteins. Subsequently, the effects of RNA modifications materialize as changes in RNA structure and/or modulation of interactions between the modified RNA and RNA binding proteins or regulatory RNAs. Disruption of these pathways impairs gene expression and cellular function. This review focuses on the links between the RNA modification m6A and its implications in human diseases.

Generation of nanomaterials by reactive laser-synthesis in liquid

Nanomaterials with tailored structures and surface chemistry are in high demand, as these materials play increasingly important roles in biology, catalysis, energy storage, and manufacturing. Their heightened demand has attracted attention towards the development of synthesis routes, particularly, laser-synthesis techniques. These efforts drove the refinement of laser ablation in liquid(LAL) and related methods over the past two decades and have led to the emergence of reactive laser-synthesis techniques that exploit these methods’ characteristic, non-equilibrium conditions. Reactive laser-synthesis approaches foster unique chemical reactions that enable the formation of composite products like multimetallic nanoparticles, supported nanostructures, and complex minerals. This review will examine emerging reactive laser-synthesis methods in the context of established methods like *** focus will be on the chemical reactions initiated within the laser plasma, with the goal of understanding how these reactions lead to the formation of unique nanomaterials. We will provide the first systematic review of laser reaction in liquid(LRL) in the literature, and bring a focus to the chemical reaction mechanisms in LAL and reactive-LAL techniques that have not yet been emphasized in reviews. Discussion of the current challenges and future investigative opportunities into reactive laser-synthesis will impart guidance for researchers interested in designing reactive laser-synthesis approaches to novel nanomaterial production.

A new species of Atelopus(Amphibia:Bufonidae)from eastern Panama

A new species of the genus Atelopus,Atelopus fronterizo ***.,from eastern Panama is described herein based on molecular,morphological,and bioacoustic *** new species can be distinguished from its congeners occurring in the region by a combination of the following characters:(1)phalangeal reduction in thumb;(2)SVL(females only)(35.1-50.1;n=13),HW/SVL(0.23-0.34;n=59),EYND/HW(0.27-0.39;n=60),TIBL/SVL(0.41-0.56;n=58),and HAL/SVL(0.22-0.28;n=49);(3)dorsal color pattern with green or yellow background and extensive dark olive blotches forming transversal bands or mottling;(4)advertisement call duration 176-235 ms with 19-34 pulses,average pulse rate 131.69 pulses/s,and dominant frequency 2422.50-2606.50 *** new species is nested within the Central American clade of *** minimum Kimura‐2‐parameter(K2P)genetic divergence between Atelopus fronterizo *** its most phylogenetically similar congeners(*** and ***)is>2.6%for 16S and>4.9%for COI(Table 1).The phylogenetic relationship is strongly supported by ultrafast bootstrap values for the maximum-likelihood trees of both genetic markers(16S,96;COI,100,Figure 1A).Bayesian analysis of the concatenated sequences resulted in a tree with similar topology and high posterior probability support(0.99;Supplementary Figure S1).In addition,haplotype networks inferred from COI and 16S(Supplementary Figure S2)showed a well-separated clade containing the new species(two for COI,four for 16S).

Emerging and re-emerging human infectious diseases:A systematic review of the role of wild animals with a focus on public health impact

Infectious diseases continue to impose unpredictable burdens on global health and economies, a subject that requires constant research and updates. In this sense, the objective of the present article was to review studies on the role of wild animals as reservoirs and/or dispersers of etiological agents of human infectious diseases in order to compile data on the main wild animals and etiological agents involved in zoonotic outbreaks. A systematic review was carried out using PRISmA guidelines, using the Pubmed, Scopus and SciELO platforms as data banks. The descriptors used were "zoonosis", "human infectious diseases" and "wild animals". The results show that wild animals(mainly bats, birds and primates) play an important role in the dissemination of etiological agents(mainly viruses, as a new coronavirus called 2019 Novel Coronavirus) in extensive geographic regions. moreover, these wild animal organisms can act as the site for essential biotic synergy among several pathogenic microorganisms, promoting a higher rate of adaptation, mutation and even genetic recombination, with consequent stimulation of new strains and subtypes, inducing new infectious agents with unknown virulent potential. In conclusion, the monitoring of these diseases and adequate preparation for possible epidemics and pandemics are fundamental conditions for the mitigation of their future impact. The zoonotic threat of these etiological agents and the impact on public health can be enormous as shown by the ongoing epidemic of 2019 novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV) infections.
