Background:skeletal muscle energetics decline with age,and physical activity(PA)has been shown to offset these declines in older ***,many studies reporting these effects were based on self-reported PA or structured exercise ***,we examined the associations of accelerometry-measured and self-reported PA and sedentary behavior(sB)with skeletal muscle energetics and explored the extent to which PA and sedentary behavior would attenuate the associations of age with muscle ***:As part of the study of Muscle,Mobility and Aging,enrolled older adults(n=879),810(age=76.4±5.0 years old,mean±sD;58%women)had maximal muscle oxidative capacity measured ex vivo via high-resolution re spirometry of permeabilized myofibers(maximal oxidative phosphorylation(maxOXPHOs))and in vivo by ^(31)phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy(maximal adenosine triphosphate(ATP_(max))).Accelerometry-measured sedentary behavior,light activity,and moderate-to-vigorous PA(MVPA)were assessed using a wrist-worn Actigraph gT9X over 7 ***-reported sedentary behavior,MVPA,and all PA were assessed with the Community Healthy Activities Model Program for seniors(CHAMPs)*** regression models with progressive covariate adjustments evaluated the associations of sedentary behavior and PA with muscle energetics,as well as the attenuation of the age/muscle energetics association by MVP A and sedentary *** a sensitivity analysis,we also examined activPAL-measured daily step count and time spent in sedentary behavior and their associations with muscle ***:Every 30 min/day more of Actigraph-measured MVPA was associated with 0.65 pmol/(s×mg)higher maxOXPHOs and 0.012 mM/s higher ATP_(max)after adjusting for age,site/technician,and sex(pght activity was not associated with maxOXPHOs or ATP_(max).Meanwhile,every 30 min/day spent in Actigraph-measured sedentary behavior was associated with 0.39 pmol/s×mg lower maxOXPHOs and0.

Colorectal cancer(CRC)remains one of the most commonly diagnosed and deadliest types of cancer *** displays a desmoplastic reaction(DR)that has been inversely associated with poor prognosis;less DR is associated with a better *** reaction generates excessive connective tissue,in which cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAFs)are critical cells that form a part of the tumor *** are directly involved in tumorigenesis through different ***,their role in immunosuppression in CRC is not well understood,and the precise role of signal transducers and activators of transcription(sTATs)in mediating CAF activity in CRC remains *** the myriad chemical and biological factors that affect CAFs,different cytokines mediate their function by activating sTAT signaling ***,the harmful effects of CAFs in favoring tumor growth and invasion may be modulated using sTAT ***,we analyze the impact of different sTATs on CAF activity and their immunoregulatory role.

Bats are the second-most diverse group of mammals in the world,and bat flies are their main ***,significant knowledge gaps remain regarding these antagonistic interactions,especially since diverse factors such as seasonality and host sex can affect their network ***,we explore the influence of such factors by comparing species richness and composition of bat flies on host bats,as well as specialization and modularity of bat–bat fly interaction networks between seasons and adult host *** captured bats and collected their ectoparasitic flies at 10 sampling sites in the savannahs of Amapástate,northeastern region of the Brazilian *** female bats being more parasitized and recording greater bat fly species richness in the wet season,neither relationship was statistically *** pooled network could be divided into 15 compartments with 54 links,and all subnetworks comprised>12 *** total number of links ranged from 27 to 48(for the dry and wet seasons,respectively),and female and male subnetworks had 44 and 41 links,*** values were very low for the pooled network and for all *** results revealed higher bat fly species richness and abundance in the wet season,whereas specialization and modularity were higher in the dry ***,the subnetwork for female bats displayed higher specialization and modularity than the male ***,both seasonality and host sex contribute in different ways to bat–bat fly network *** studies should consider these factors when evaluating bat–bat fly interaction networks.

Background: Intussusception is defined as a telescoping of a proximal gastrointestinal segment with its mesentery to a distal one, only 5% occur in adults and in colon the probability that it is caused by a malignant disease is up to 65%. Only 1% occurs in a retrograde manner, the rest occur in an anterograde manner. Aim: Describe the clinical presentation of an intussusception in the adult patient as well as its most frequent causes and possible complications that influence decision making for a definitive treatment. Case Presentation: A 66-year-old woman diagnosed with colon adenocarcinoma who underwent elective transverse colectomy and colonic anastomosis with an incidental finding of a transverse colon tumor in a retrograde intussusception was studied. Conclusion: In any adult patient with an intussusception especially in colon a neoplasia should be suspected and the affected segment should be resected without being reduced due to the risk of perforation and tumor dissemination.

Effects of aeration on the suspended matter from a tropical and eutrophic estuary

A comprehensive understanding of the complex biogeochemical interactions between organic matter and persistent contaminants in the suspended matter is vital for ecoefficient estuary ***,little is known regarding aeration effects in suspended particulate ***,this study aimed to investigate the effects of aeration on the suspended matter from a Tropical and Eutrophic estuarine *** water with 60 g/L of suspended particulate matter(sPM)was collected from guanabara Bay,Rio de Janeiro,Brazil,transferred to experimental boxes and aerated for 61 *** aggregates monitoring included abiotic variables measurements and,determination of total organic matter(TOM),biopolymers composition,bacterial activity,trace metals,and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)*** aeration enhanced dissolved oxygen(DO)concentration and the redox potential(Eh).However,from days 0 to 61 the predominant bacterial activities were denitrification and *** transport system activity increased after day 10,and aerobic activity was detected after day *** summary,aeration increased aerobic bacterial activity,lipids(LIP)and trace metal concentrations,although diminished protein/carbohydrate ratio and PAH *** metals concentration(Ni,Pb,Cu,Cr,Mn,and Fe)were the highest on day 19 when the p H was *** presented toxic values(Cu>20.0μg/g).The p H showed a strong negative correlation with Eh(r=-0.94;psystems with high loads of toxic trace metals is unsafe for ***,managers must be aware of the environmental and biological risks of introducing the aeration technique into a eutrophic marine environment.

Petrogenesis of granites from the Ediacaran socorro Batholith,sE Brazil:Constraints from Zircon Dating,geochemistry and sr-Nd-Hf Isotopes

Whole rock elemental and sr-Nd isotope geochemistry and in situ zircon Hf isotope geochemistry were used to identify the sources of the Neoproterozoic granites from the socorro batholith,socorro-guaxupéNappe(sgN),south Brasilia Orogen,*** trace elements and Hf isotope geochemistry provided information about sources and crystallization(T,f_(O2))*** main types of granites built the bulk of the batholiths,beginning with probably pre-collisional~640–630 Ma charnockites,and ending with~610 Ma voluminous post-collisional high-K calc-alkaline(HKCA)Ⅰ-type granites(Bragan?a Paulista-type).several types of leucogranites were generated from 625 to 610 Ma,spanning the interval from collisional to post-collisional *** charnockite bodies occur in the study area:the~640 Ma socorro charnockite has remarkable chemical similarities with Braganca Paulista-type granites,but higherε_(Nd)(t)=-6.1 and average zirconε_(Hf)(t)=-9.1 and lower^(86)sr/^(87)sr_(t)(0.7093)values,indicative of more juvenile and water-poor ***~633 Ma Atibaia charnockite has distinct geochemical signature(lower Mg^(#)and sr content;higher Zr),more negativeε_(Nd)(t)=-14.1,similar average zirconε_(Hf)(t)=-8.9,and much higher^(86)sr/^(87)sr_(t)=0.7197,probably reflecting a larger component from old *** predominant~610 Ma Bragan?a Paulista-type granites were emplaced in a post-collisional setting,and correspond to porphyritic biotite-hornblende monzogranites of high-K calc-alkaline character with 61 wt.%–67 wt.%siO_(2),high Mg^(#)(39–42),sr/Y(19–40),La/Yb(12–69),highly negativeε_(Nd)(t)(-12.3 to-12.9)and zirconε_(Hf)(t)(-12 to-17)and^(87)sr/^(86)sr_(t)=0.7119–*** features are interpreted as indicative of magma generation in a thickened crust,where melts from enriched mantle sources emplaced in the lowermost crust,heated host old continental crust rocks(gneisses and granulites)and partially mixed with their melting *** plutons(siO_(2)>72 wt.%)occur

Using　genetic　Algorithms　to　Improve　the　search　of　the　Weight　space　in　Cascade－Correlation　Neural　Network

In this paper, we use the global search characteristics of genetic algorithms to help search the weight space of the neurons in the cascade-correlation architecture. The cascade-correlation learning architecture is a technique of training and building neural networks that starts with a simple network of neurons and adds additional neurons as they are needed to suit a particular problem. In our approach, instead ofmodifying the genetic algorithm to account for convergence problems, we search the weight-space using the genetic algorithm and then apply the gradient technique of Quickprop to optimize the weights. This hybrid algorithm which is a combination of genetic algorithms and cascade-correlation is applied to the two spirals problem. We also use our algorithm in the prediction of the cyclic oxidation resistance of Ni- and Co-base superalloys.

Ecological succession of benthic organisms on niche-type artificial reefs

As part of efforts to restore fishery resources and recover damaged coastal ecosystems,artificial reefs are often anchored on the seafloor in coastal zones,to provide new habitats for marine *** aim of the study was to describe the structure of a community of benthic invertebrates colonising a niche-type artificial reef(AATN in spanish).Nine structures were anchored at depths of 16±1.5 m for 99 weeks(22 months)in the Area of Benthic Resource Management and Exploitation(AMERB)in coastal waters of the Region of Bio Bio,*** results showed that,at 3 months from submersion of the NTAR,much of the artificial substrate remained bare and there were only low levels of specimens of Balanus ***,showing mean coverage of 11.26%,and even lower proportions of Rhodophyta,with mean coverage of 0.34%.At 6 months,the presence of hydrozoans was seen,decreasing the coverage of the barnacles,which was aided further at 8 months with the arrival of barnacle predatory *** 8 months,new benthic invertebrates appeared and competed for the *** included sponges and *** 99 weeks,the hydrozoans dominated the substrate,followed by barnacles and Rhodophyta,the first colonising organisms,leading to colonisation by motile macro-invertebrates,mainly consisting of crustaceans,echinoderms and *** AATN artificial system provides an ideal substrate for the development of early ecological succession and the use of this technology should be feasible in the recovery process of habitat damaged by anthropogenic actions and climate change.

The tropical arboreal species Brazilian mahogany(swietenia macrophylla) is very important economically and ecologically,for which understanding ecophysiological variables such as sap flow will improve understanding of the species and its *** paper aims to measure uncertainties(U) involved in the application of the heat ratio method for determining sap flow in Brazilian mahogany using sets of heating probes and thermometers installed on plants of 18 months of age,cultivated in Yellow Latosol,under a weighing lysimeter and located in a protected *** uncertainty in sap flow was calculated as the combination of uncertainty in the thermal diffusivity(U_(k)),conductive section(U_(sc)) and corrected sap velocity(U_(Vc)).U_(k) had greater weight in determining the flow of sap in Brazilian mahogany,when compared to U_(sc) and U_(Vc).The thermal diffusivity during the cycle,or period evaluated,must be adjusted to improve the accuracy of the heat ratio method because the sap flow overestimated transpiration by 15.0%.When soil water was optimal In addition,the vapor pressure deficit linearly and indirectly influenced the sF with a difference of 14.6%.
