Childhood trauma and factors associated with depression among inpatients with cardiovascular disease

AIM To identify factors associated with depressive symptoms among inpatients with cardiovascular disease(CVD). METHODS This is a cross-sectional study performed in a subsample of a large cross-sectional research that investigated affective disorders and suicide behaviour among inpatients hospitalized in non-surgical wards of the University Hospital of the Federal University of Minas Gerais from November 2013 to October 2015. Sociodemographic and clinical data were obtained through a structured interview and medical record review. Depression was assessed by the depression subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, with scores ≥ 8 considered as positive screening for depression. We used the Fagestr?m Test for Nicotine Dependence to characterize nicotine dependence. For assessing resilience and early-life trauma, we used the raw scores of the Wagnild and Young Resilience Scale and Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, *** At endpoint, we included 137 subjects. Thirty-eight(27.7%) subjects presented depressive symptoms and nine(23.7%) of those were receiving antidepressant treatment during hospitalization. The female sex; a lower mean educational level; a greater prevalence of previous suicide attempts; a higher level of pain; a higher prevalence of family antecedents of mental disorders; a lower resilience score; and higher childhood trauma score were the factors significantly associated with screening positive for major depression(P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that the factors independently associated with the depressive symptoms were a higher childhood trauma severity(OR = 1.06; P = 0.004); moderate to severe nicotine dependence(OR = 8.58; P = 0.008); and the number of previous hospital admissions(OR = 1.11; P = 0.034). Postpartum depression:A systematic review of the genetics involved

Postpartum depression is one of the most prevalent psychopathologies. Its prevalence is estimated to be between 10% and 15%. Despite its multifactorial etiology, it is known that genetics play an important role in the genesis of this disorder. This paper reviews epidemiological evidence supporting the role of genetics in postpartum depression(PPD). The main objectives of this review are to determine which genes and polymorphisms are associated with PPD and discuss how this association may occur. In addition, this paper explores whether these genes are somehow related to or even the same as those linked to Major Depression(MD). To identify gaps in the current knowledge that require investigation, a systematic review was conducted in the electronic databases Pub Med, LILACS and Sci ELO using the index terms "postpartum depression" and "genetics". Literature searches for articles in peerreviewed journals were made until April 2014. PPD was indexed 56 times with genetics. The inclusion criteria were articles in Portuguese, Spanish or English that were available by institutional means or sent by authors upon request; this search resulted in 20 papers. Genes and polymorphisms traditionally related to MD, which are those involved in the serotonin, catecholamine, brain-derived neurotrophic factor and tryptophan metabolism, have been the most studied, and some have been related to PPD. The results are conflicting and some depend on epigenetics, which makes the data incipient. Further studies are required to determine the genes that are involved in PPD and establish the nature of the relationship between these genes and PPD.

The Arckitbuilding Bricks as a Didactic Tool for Experimentation in Architectural Design： Possibilities and Limitations

This article deals with the usage of building bricks as a didactic material for the development of architectural design. The building brick game chosen for analysis was the Arckit, since it is suitable for the architectural practice. It is estimated that this game can contribute to the design, representation and presentation of projects. In order to investigate in which aspects Arckit presents possibilities of applications, as well as limitations of use, the article approaches the importance of building bricks as a didactic tool and its use in the field of the architectural design process. From a literature review and an empirical experience, this article reports a qualitative research, where the applicability of the Arckit game was checked. Through a critical reflection based on that experience, it was possible to conclude that whereas its limitations to urban form and linked to the formal vocabulary that composes the grammar of these bricks, the Arckit building bricks represent in architecture a playful and experimental way to think and design, fomenting the creativity and the spatial perception, resulting in a particular experience that can make architecture better connected with dreams and joy.

Sexual education is a social responsibility and is a part of the coherent strategy referred to the introduction in schools in Angola. It was made of a prospective, descriptive and longitudinal study that has been characterized the knowledge of sexual education of students in general education in three schools and the Council of Christian Churches in Huambo-Angola in July 2015. The sample consisted of 386 students chosen randomly;there are no sexual education programs in the education system, there are taboos on sexuality, the respondents do not know the sexual organs and much less contraceptive methods, there are still taboos in sexuality theme approach with adolescents, the results showed.

Cellulose Acetate Film and Layered Double Hydroxide as Determination Method of Available Phosphorus in the Soil

The determination of available phosphorus(P)in soil is essential to the evaluation of the current fertility status,and therefore,for recommending the required phosphate fertilizers for the cultivation of *** mostly used extractants around the country are Mehlich-1(M-1)and anionic resins(AR)and mixed resins(MR).However,there are still controversies in relation to the method that should be used,due to of particularities of each ***,the main objectives of this work was to assess the applicability of films of binary combination between cellulose acetate(CA)biopolymer and calcinated layered double hydroxide(LDH-c),named CAF-LDH-c,as a new extractor of available P in *** this,two experiments were set *** the first one,sub-samples of an Oxisol layer 0-20 cm were used and submitted to increasing doses of total P(0,250,750 and 2,250 mg/dm3)in the form of monoammonium phosphate(MAP)at different incubation time(5,30,60 and 90 d).In the second experiment,samples of 20 soils from different origins and contents of available P were used with distinct chemical and physical *** analysis of available P by M-1,AR,MR,Mehlich-3(M-3)and CAF-LDH-c extractants was done in both *** efficiency of the extractants was evaluated by Pearson’s linear *** correlation between values of P extracted from soil in the first experiment was highly significant among all extraction methods used,including for *** the second experiment,CAF-LDH-c showed significant correlation(p<0.01)with M-1,M-3,AR and ***,the significant correlations of the extractant being tested(CAF-LDH-c)with those usually used indicates the possibility of this new method of routine laboratories for assessing the P availability of for the cultivation of crops.

With demand increasing for phosphate recovery,a considerable share of current research is dedicated to elaborate multifunctional *** this way,the objective of this work was to produce hybrid films from the combination of cellulose acetate(CA)biopolymer and magnesium and aluminium layered double hydroxides(LDHs)and investigate their performance for phosphate *** this work,the following materials were prepared and characterized:LDH,calcinated LDH(LDH-c),CA film(CAF),CA film with LDH(CAF-LDH)and CA film with LDH-c(CAF-LDH-c).The produced materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction,thermogravimetric analysis coupled with differential scanning calorimetry and mass spectrometry,attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electronic *** thickness,H2O absorption(AH2O),stability in H2O and phosphate adsorption of the produced films were *** adsorption capacity of films was compared to LDHs in powder *** CAF-LDH and CAF-LDH-c increased film thickness,where CAF-LDH-c was thicker than ***-LDH-c had higher AH2O than the other films,because of its increased thickness and mainly because of the H2O sorption process of these materials.H2O stability of 98.97%for CAF-LDH and 96.81%for CAF-LDH-c suggest the produced films can maintain their structural properties even after a long contact period with aqueous *** the CAF-LDH-c,the maximum adsorption capacity of phosphate,according to the Langmuir-Freundlich model,was 6.98 mg/*** adsorption value suggests that this film can be used as an efficient phosphorus(P)adsorbent from wastewater or a eutrophicated source.
