Two-dimensional （2D） nanomaterials have recently attracted considerable attention due to their promising applications in next-generation electronics and optoelectronics. In particular, the large-scale synthesis of high-quality 2D materials is an essential requirement for their practical applications. Herein, we demonstrate the wafer-scale synthesis of highly crystalline and homogeneous monolayer WS2 by an enhanced chemical vapor deposition （CVD） approach, in which precise control of the precursor vapor pressure can be effectively achieved in a multi-temperature zone horizontal furnace. In contrast to conventional synthesis methods, the obtained monolayer WS2 has excellent uniformity both in terms of crystallinity and morphology across the entire substrate wafer grown （e.g., 2 inches in diameter）, as corroborated by the detailed characterization. When incorporated in typical rigid photodetectors, the monolayer WS2 leads to a respectable photodetection performance, with a responsivity of 0.52 mA/W, a detectivity of 4.9 × 10^9 Jones, and a fast response speed （〈 560μs）. Moreover, once fabricated as flexible photodetectors on polyimide, the monolayer WS2 leads to a responsivity of up to 5 mA/W. Importantly, the photocurrent maintains 89% of its initial value even after 3,000 bending cycles. These results highlight the versatility of the present technique, which allows its applications in larger substrates, as well as the excellent mechanical flexibility and robustness of the CVD-grown, homogenous WS2 monolayers, which can promote the development of advanced flexible optoelectronic devices.

Rare case of intussusception in an adult with acute myeloid leukemia

Intussusception is rarely reported in adult patients with acute leukemia. We report a case of intussusception in a 29-year-old woman with acute myeloid leukemia(AML). She developed right lower quadrant pain, fever, and vomiting on day 16 of induction *** examination showed tenderness and guarding at the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. Abdominal computed tomography(CT) showed distension of the cecum and ascending colon, which were filled with loops of small bowel, and herniation of the ileocecal valve into the cecum. We proceeded to laparotomy and revealed ileocecal intussusception with the ileocecal valve as the leading point. The terminal ileum was thickened and invaginated into the cecum, which showed gangrenous changes. Right hemicolectomy was performed and microscopic examination of the colonic tissue showed infiltration of leukemic cells. The patient recovered after the operation and was subsequently able to continue treatment for AML. This case demonstrates that the diagnosis of intussusception is difficult because the presenting symptoms can be non-specific, but abdominal CT can be informative for preoperative diagnosis. Resection of the involved bowel is recommended when malignancy is suspected or confirmed. Intussusception should be considered in any leukemia patients presenting with acute abdomen. A high index of clinical suspicion is important for early diagnosis.

Background Asthma is a significant chronic health problem worldwide. Management aims at disease control by reducing functional impairment and exacerbations and improving quality of life (QoL). We report a multi-center study to survey asthma control and QoL in four cities in the Pearl River Delta. Methods The conjoint survey involved ten hong Kong pediatric hospitals/units, two Shenzhen hospitals, two Macao hos-pitals, and two Guangzhou hospitals on asthma control (using Asthma Control Test) and QoL (Pediatric Allergic Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire, PADQLQ). Acceptability of a treatment is graded as very good/good/fair/poor. Results Good asthma control was only reported in 80% subjects in hong Kong, but higher in sister cities (85–94%, Phowed better control of asthma was associated with better PADQLQ (B=?0.029, P hodilator (B=?1.488, P = 0.025), negatively with 'smoker in family' (B=?0.83, P = 0.015) and various PADQLQ domains. Conversely, worse PADQLQ was associated with allergic rhinitis severity (B=4.77, P hodilator usage (B=1.05, P home (B=3.9, P < 0.05). Conclusions There are some clinical and cultural differences among the four southern Chinese cities within the Guangdong province. This study identifies potentially modifiable environmental and treatment factors associated with poor asthma control and QoL for health-care interventions. Having a smoker in the family is independently associated with poor asthma control and QoL.
