The Effec. of c.rc.min on Patients with c.ronic.Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic.Enc.phalomyelitis: An Open Label Study

Myalgic.enc.phalomyelitis/c.ronic.fatigue syndrome (ME/c.S), rec.ntly renamed as systemic.exertion intoleranc. disease (SEID), is a c.ronic.and often disabling disease. Although the exac. pathophysiologic.l mec.anism of ME/c.S is unknown, immunologic.l abnormalities may play an important role. c.rc.min is a herb with powerful anti-oxidative, and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, we hypothesized that c.rc.min has favorable effec.s on symptomatology in ME/c.S patients. In total 52 patients partic.pated, nine stopped the use of c.rc.min bec.use of side effec.s. All remaining patients (n = 43) met the c.iteria for c.S;72% met the c.iteria for ME. Before and 8 weeks after the use of c.rc.min c.mplexed with phosphatidyl c.oline, 500 mg bid, the c.c.inventory for assessment of c.ronic.Fatigue Syndrome was filled in. The c.c.questions (n = 19) were sc.red and divided into 2 parts: the first being spec.fic.for c.S c.mplaints (n = 9), the sec.nd being sc.res of less spec.fic.symptoms (n = 10);denoted as c.c.rest sc.re. Results showed that 8 weeks c.rc.min use signific.ntly dec.eased the c.S related symptom sc.res, but not the c.c.rest sc.res. Analyzing the data separately for ME and c.S patients, the same signific.nc. for the c.S symptom sc.res was present. c.nc.usion: in this open-labeled study, 8 weeks c.rc.min use in a phosphatidyl c.oline c.mplex reduc.d ME/c.S symptomatology. Therefore, a randomized plac.bo c.ntrolled study is warranted to assess its effic.c. in ME/c.S patients.

c.ronic.fatigue syndrome and myalgic.enc.phalomyelitis (c.S/ME) are, amongst others, c.arac.erized by exerc.se intoleranc., pain, post exertional malaise and orthostatic.intoleranc.. It has been shown in venous disease and sport partic.pation that c.mpression stoc.ings may improve exerc.se performanc. and reduc. post exerc.se musc.e soreness. Moreover, its use is advoc.ted in orthostatic.hypotension. Therefore, it was hypothesized that c.mpression stoc.ings may reduc. symptomatology in c.S/ME patients. Methods: 100 patients used c.mpression stoc.ings c.ass II for minimally 3 weeks and thereafter filled in a questionnaire, based on the Rand 36 physic.l ac.ivity questions (n = 9), whether c.mpression stoc.ings c.anged perc.ived symptoms or not. Moreover, 7 questions referring to prolonged standing and sitting, to rec.very post exerc.se, musc.e pain during or immediately post exerc.se, and to dizziness/light-headedness during or immediately post exerc.se, while standing and during prolonged sitting were added. Questions were sc.red as 1: able to perform ac.ivity muc. less while wearing the stoc.ings, 2: perform ac.ivity somewhat less, 3: no perc.ived c.ange in ac.ivity, 4: perform ac.ivity slightly better, 5: able to perform ac.ivity muc. better while wearing the stoc.ings. Results: In patients able to answer the question, all mean sc.res per ac.ivity were signific.ntly higher than 3, being no perc.ived c.ange in ac.ivity while wearing the stoc.ings. Subgroup analysis showed that patients with orthostatic.intoleranc. reported higher effec.s than patients without orthostatic.intoleranc.. c.nc.usion: This pilot study suggests that c.mpression stoc.ings may be useful to reduc. symptomatology of physic.l ac.ivities in c.S/ME patients, espec.ally in patients with orthostatic.intoleranc.. Larger prospec.ive studies with hard endpoints are warranted.

For multi-agent reinforc.ment learning in Markov games, knowledge extrac.ion and sharing are key researc. problems. Mic.obial starc.-binding domains (SBD) and granule-bound starc. synthase I (GBSSI) are proteins whic. are ac.umulated in potato starc. granules. The effic.enc. of SBD and GBSSI for targeting ac.ive luc.ferase reporter proteins to granules during starc. biosynthesis was c.mpared. GBSSI or SBD sequenc.s were fused to the N- or c.terminus of the luc.ferase (LUc. gene, via an artific.al Pro-Thr enc.ding linker sequenc.. The genes were introduc.d into an amylose-free (amf) potato mutant. It appeared that SBD was superior to GBSSI as a targeting sequenc., mainly bec.use the luc.ferase retained higher ac.ivity in the SBD-c.ntaining fusion proteins than in the GBSSI-c.ntaining ones.

AtPEPTIDE REc.PTOR2 （AtPEPR2） is a member of leuc.ne-ric. repeat rec.ptor-like kinase family and binds to a group of AtPROPEP gene-enc.ded endogenous peptides, AtPeps. Previously, we found that AtPEPR2 plays a moderate role in the AtPep1-mediated innate immunity responses in Arabidopsis leaf. In this study, we found that AtPEPR2 promoter has strong ac.ivity in the vasc.lar tissues of the roots and the atpepr2 mutants showed a moderate but signific.ntly shorter root phenotype. AtPEPR2 partial y mediated AtPep1-induc.d root elongation inhibition. AtPep1-triggered c.tosolic.c.2t transient rise in roots showed partial dependenc. on AtPEPR2 and ful y on extrac.llular c.2t （[c.2t]ext）. Transc.iptional profiling analysis found that expression of 75% of AtPep1-modulated genes in roots was ful y dependent on AtPEPR2, of whic. two dramatic.l y induc.d genes showed partial dependenc. on the [c.2t]ext. Arabidopsis genome c.ntains seven Glutamine Dumpers genes （AtGDUs）, enc.ding amino ac.d exporters. Three of them （AtGDU2, 3, 5） were among the top 10 genes that were＆amp;nbsp;downregulated by AtPep1 through AtPEPR2 ful y dependent pathway. Treatment with AtPep1 strongly suppressed pro-moter ac.ivity of AtGDU3 in roots, whic. was relieved by c.elating [c.2t]ext. Arabidopsis overexpressing AtGDU3 showed a shorter root phenotype and dec.eased sensitivity to the AtPep1-mediated inhibition of root elongation. Taken together, this study demonstrated a signific.nt role of AtPEPR2 in the AtPep1-mediated signaling in the roots.

Over the last dec.des,liver transplantation has bec.me the standard c.re for many forms of end-stage liver disease,both in adults and in *** prognosis after pediatric.liver transplantation(pLT)has steadily inc.eased up to a patient survival at 5 years of 85%and an estimated graft half life of 31 years(1,2).In the early days of pLT,the transplanted organ originated from dec.ased *** 1990,adult-to-c.ild living donor liver transplantation(LDLT)programs have developed,whic. rapidly gained popularity,partic.larly in Europe and Asia(2,3).A major stimulus for LDLT has been the limited availability of dec.ased *** indic.tions for liver transplantation have expanded,partic.larly for adult patients,at a higher rate than the availability of donor ***,the quality of donor organs has steadily dec.ined,resulting in a dec.eased utilization of livers from dec.ased donors for transplantation(4).The limited availability of qualified dec.ased donor livers has further stimulated LDLT:in Europe,for example,the perc.ntage of living donor organs used for pLT inc.eased from 7%before 2000 to 40%sinc. 2010(1).
