Introduction: Prostate cancer is th. most common non-cutaneous male cancers, contributing to significant mortality rates globally. Mutations of RNase L, an enzyme involved in inflammatory and immunological path.ays, h.ve been speculated to predispose to cancer. Th.s study assesses th.ee different mutations of th. RNase L gene in Irish.prostate cancer patients, including one linked with.general cancer susceptibility never investigated before in prostate cancer (rs3738579), and reports on links with.aggressive cancer. Meth.ds: 134 patients h.d th.ir RNase L mutation status determined by polymerase ch.in reaction (PCR) of serum DNA. Complementary clinical details for each.patient are statistically analysed. Results: No link to age of diagnosis, h.gh.grade disease or prostate specific antigen (PSA) level at diagnosis was demonstrated with.any of th. studied single nucleotide polymorph.sms (SNP). Th. SNP variation was consistent with.th.t of publish.d international series. Conclusion: SNP genotypic frequencies in Ireland are consistent with.international findings. Th. studied RNase L mutations including rs3738579 do not appear to h.ve a significant impact on our patient population.

Background: Th. purpose of th. study was to investigate effects of eth.l eicosapentaenoic acid on ph.rmacokinetics of metformin. Ph.rmacokinetic profiles of metformin and eth.l eicosapentaenoic acid wh.n delivered separately or togeth.r in solid dose form were investigated and compared to determine wh.th.r th. solid dose resulted in an altered metforminph.rmacokinetics wh.n given with.or with.ut food. Meth.ds: A single-center, open-label, repeated dose study investigated th. ph.rmacokinetic (PK) profile of metformin wh.n administered in solid dose form with.eth.l eicosapentaenoic acid compared to co-administration with.icosapent eth.l, an ester of eicosapentaenoic acid and eth.l alcoh.l used to treat severe h.pertriglyceridemia with.metformin h.droch.oride. Non-compartmental PK meth.ds were used to compare area under th. plasma concentration curve (AUC) and maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) between patients randomized to eith.r th. ester or separate medications group under both.fasting and fed conditions. Results: Using th.se two PK parameters, results sh.wed th.t metformin availability was h.gh.r under fasting conditions wh.n delivered separately from icosapent eth.l. Th.re were no group differences in th. fed condition. Conclusions: Th. solid dose form of metformin and eth.l eicosapentaenoic acid did not improve th. ph.rmacokinetics of metformin in terms of plasma availability, suggesting th.t little is to be gained over th. separate administration of eth.l eicosapentaenoic acid and metformin h.droch.oride.

Experimental validation of inter-subspecific genetic diversity in rice represented by th. differences between th. DNA sequences of 'Nipponbare' and '93-11'

Th. pedigrees of th.ee sequenced rice cultivars were analyzed to sh.w th.t a majority of th. genetic composition of 'Nipponbare' originates from japonica cultivars wh.le th. minority originates from indica cultivars. In contrast, '93-11' is derived mainly from indica cultivars with.a smaller contribution from japonica cultivars. All ancestors of 'Guang lu ai 4' appeared to be indica lines. A set of molecular markers (46 InDels and 53 SSRs) polymorph.c between 'Nipponbare' and '93-11' were examined in 46 typical indica and 47 typical japonica cultivars selected from 443 accessions according to Ch.ng's index. All cultivars were divided into indica and japonica groups with.ut overlapping wh.n clustered by Ch.ng's index, InDels and SSRs. Much.h.gh.r InDel and SSR diversity between groups th.n with.n groups implies th.t th. marker polymorph.sms between 'Nipponbare' and '93-11' represent a large proportion of inter-subspecific diversity. About 85% of indica cultivars and more th.n 90% of japonica cultivars were confirmed to h.ve th. same PCR banding patterns as '93-11' and 'Nipponbare', respectively. Some polymorph.c loci between 'Nipponbare' and '93-11' cannot be validated in oth.r indica and japonica cultivars, eith.r as subspecies-specific but not predominant alleles, or alleles not specific between th. two groups. It was concluded th.t molecular markers developed from sequence polymorph.sm between 'Nipponbare' and '93-11' often represent inter-subspecific diversity, alth.ugh.some exceptions were sensitive to eith.r particular marker loci or particular cultivars.

DFT functionals(Nalewajski and Parr,1982).Starting from an analysis of th. convexity/concavity of th.
