Clinical application of concentrated bone marrow aspirate in orthopaedics:A systematic review

AIm to examine the evidence behind the use of concentrated bone marrow aspirate(c BmA) in cartilage, bone, and tendon repair; establish proof of concept for the use of cB mA in these biologic environments; and provide the level and quality of evidence substantiating the use of cB mA in the clinical *** We conducted a systematic review according to PRISmA guidelines. EmBASE, mEDLINE, and Web of Knowledge databases were screened for the use of cB mA in the repair of cartilage, bone, and tendon repair. We extracted data on tissue type, cB mA preparation, cB mA concentration, study methods, outcomes, and level of evidence and reported the results in tables and *** A total of 36 studies met inclusion/exclusion criteria and were included in this review. thirty-one of 36(86%) studies reported the method of centrifugation and preparation of cB mA with 15(42%) studies reporting either a cell concentration or an increase from baseline. Variation of c BmA application was seen amongst the studies evaluated. twenty-one of 36(58%) were level of evidence Ⅳ, 12/36(33%) were level of evidence Ⅲ, and 3/36(8%) were level of evidence Ⅱ. Studies evaluated full thickness chondral lesions(7 studies), osteochondral lesions(10 studies), osteoarthritis(5 studies), nonunion or fracture(9 studies), or tendon injuries(5 studies). Significant clinical improvement with the presence of hyaline-like values and lower incidence of fibrocartilage on t2 mapping was found in patients receiving cB mA in the treatment of cartilaginous lesions. Bone consolidation and time to bone union was improved in patients receiving cB mA. Enhanced healingrates, improved quality of the repair surface on ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging, and a decreased risk of re-rupture was demonstrated in patients receiving cB mA as an adjunctive treatment in tendon repair. Species delimitation in the White-faced Cuckoo-dove(turacoena manadensis) based on bioacoustic data

Background: the White-faced Cuckoo-dove(turacoena manadensis) is a poorly-known Wallacean endemic with a limited distribution on Sulawesi and its satellites, including the togian, Banggai and Sula archipelagoes. In 1900, populations from the Sula archipelago were awarded subspecies status t. manadensis sulaensis based on smaller size and minor differences in plumage; however, this distinction has not been corroborated subsequently, and t. manadensis is considered by most modern sources to be monotypic across its ***: We conducted vocal analysis of the cuckoo-doves' main song using recordings collected from across the taxon's natural range. Descriptive information on the songs was obtained from the recordings using bioacoustic analysis software, after which several statistical methods were used to investigate differences in vocalizations among ***: We report deep bioacoustic divergences in vocal trait pattern from across the cuckoo-doves' range, with birds from Peleng and taliabu in the east having a different vocal trait pattern from birds from Sulawesi, Buton, and togian in the west. these patterns agree with changes in landmass that accompanied the sea level fluctuations caused by Pleistocene glacial cycles, and indicate that eastern and western cuckoo-dove populations are at the level of different biological ***: We propose that the eastern taxon be elevated to species level as t. sulaensis. Given the rampant degree of habitat destruction in its limited range, this taxonomic change will have important implications on the conservation status of t. sulaensis.

Oil spill-induced vapor cloud explosions in a confined space can cause catastrophic *** this work,investigation was conducted on the catastrophic pipeline leak,oil spill,and the resulting vapor cloud explosion accident occurring in China in 2013 by modeling analysis,field surveys,and numerical *** total amount of the spilled oil was up to2044.4 m3 due to improper *** long residence time of the oil remaining in a confined space permitted the formation of explosive mixtures and caused the vapor cloud explosion.A numerical model was developed to estimate the consequence of the explosion based on volatilization testing *** results show that the death-leading zone and the glass-breaking zone could be 18 m and 92 m,respectively,which are consistent with the field *** severity of the explosion is related to the amount of the oil spill,properties of oil,and volatilization *** is recommended that a comprehensive risk assessment be conducted to analyze the possible consequences upon oil spilling into a confined *** collection and ventilation measures should be taken immediately after the spill occurs to reduce the time for oil volatilization and prevent the mixture from reaching its explosive limit.

Exercise behaviors and barriers to exercise in adult burn survivors: A questionnaire survey

Exercise is a key component of burn rehabilitation across all phases of care. Supervised outpatient exercise programs have been shown to improve outcomes following burn injury. However, little is known about the exercise behaviors of burn survivors who do not undertake such programs. this study aimed to investigate self-reported exercise behaviors and barriers to exercise in adult burn survivors. A short questionnaire survey was conducted on adult burn survivors attending the ambulatory burns clinic of a tertiary hospital over a 6-week period. the collected data were subjected to paired t-tests and Pearson's correlation test. A total of 63 adult burn survivors (mean age 36.5 years) completed the questionnaire. Participants reported exercising less frequently and engaged in fewer different types of exercise compared with pre-burn (P tions and low motivation and enthusiasm were the major barriers to exercise. Participation in supervised exercise programs can be limited by a range of factors including the availability of resources and access to facilities. this preliminary study suggests that there is a need to improve compliance with outpatient exercise programs. Burn survivors appear to exercise less frequently after burn injury. Barriers to exercise following burn injury include poor physical condition and reduced motivation. Further investigation into overall physical activity following burn injury and potential physical and psychological limitations is warranted. Burn clinicians should highly encourage injury survivors to participate in supervised exercise programs when available or to do exercises at home to maximize post-burn injury recovery.

Quality monitoring of real-time GNSS precise positioning service system

the Real-time Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)Precise Positioning Service(RtPPS)is recognized as the most promising system by providing precise satellite orbit and clock correc-tions for users to achieve centimeter-level positioning with a stand-alone receiver in *** the products are available with high accuracy almost all the time,they may occasionally suffer from unexpected significant biases,which consequently degrades the positioning ***,quality monitoring at the system-level has become more and more crucial for providing a reliable GNSS *** this paper,we propose a method for the monitoring of realtime satellite orbit and clock products using a monitoring station network based on the Quality Control(QC)*** satellites with possible biases are first detected based on the outliers identified by Precise Point Positioning(PPP)in the monitoring station ***,the corresponding orbit and clock parameters with temporal constraints are introduced and esti-mated through the sequential Least Square(LS)estimator and the corresponding Instantaneous User Range Errors(IUREs)can be determined.A quality indicator is calculated based on the IUREs in the monitoring network and compared with a pre-defined *** quality monitoring method is experimentally evaluated by monitoring the real-time orbit and clock products generated by GeoForschungsZentrum(GFZ),*** results confirm that the problematic satellites can be detected accurately and effectively with missed detection rate 4×10^(-6) and false alarm rate 1:2×10^(-5).Considering the quality alarms,the PPP results in terms of RmS of positioning differences with respect to the International GNSS Service(IGS)weekly solution in the north,east and up directions can be improved by 12%,10%and 27%,respectively.

Global Stability in Dynamical Systems with multiple Feedback mechanisms

A class of n-dimensional ODEs with up to n feedbacks from the n’th variable is analysed. the feedbacks are represented by non-specific, bounded, non-negative C1 functions. the main result is the formulation and proof of an easily applicable criterion for existence of a globally stable fixed point of the system. the proof relies on the contraction mapping theorem. Applications of this type of systems are numerous in biology, e.g., models of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and testosterone secretion. Some results important for modelling are: 1) Existence of an attractive trapping region. this is a bounded set with non-negative elements where solutions cannot escape. All solutions are shown to converge to a “minimal” trapping region. 2) At least one fixed point exists. 3) Sufficient criteria for a unique fixed point are formulated. One case where this is fulfilled is when the feedbacks are negative.

Additive manufacturing of copper-stainless steel hybrid components using laser-aided directed energy deposition

Combining dissimilar materials in a single component is an effective solution to integrate diverse material properties into a single ***-stainless steel hybrid components are attracting more and more attention since the high thermal conductivity of copper can greatly enhance the thermal performance of stainless steel,which benefits its applications in many ***,direct joining of copper and stainless steel such as SS316 L is challenging since they preserve significant dissimilarities in physical,chemical,and thermo-mechanical *** paper aims to fabricate well-bonded copper-SS316 L hybrid parts using a laser-aided directed energy deposition(DED) process.A nickel-based alloy Deloro22(D22) is introduced between copper and SS316 L to address the detrimental issues in copper-SS316 L direct *** this technique,defect-free interfaces are achieved at both the D22-SS316 L and copper-D22 transition *** testing of Cu-D22-SS316 L and D22-SS316 L hybrid parts shows the fracture occurs at pure copper and SS316 L region,respectively,indicating an excellent bonding at the *** in the building direction,a transition of grain structure is observed.A significant diffusion zone is obtained at both the D22-SS316 L and the Cu-D22 *** large diffusion distance results in a smooth variation in microhardness over the dissimilar *** microhardness increases from SS316 L to D22 with the highest value of 240 HV and then decreases from D22 to Cu with the lowest value of 63 ± 4 *** of thermophysical properties of the Cu-D22-SS316 L system indicates there is a ~300 % increase in thermal diffusivity and a ~200 % increase in thermal conductivity when compared to pure SS316 *** significant increase in thermal diffusivity and conductivity validates the enhanced thermal performance of SS316 L when it is joined with pure copper.

We outline here an approach for understanding the biology of climate change,one that integrates data at multiple spatial and temporal ***-free trait analysis,or“ecometrics,”is based on the idea that the distribution in a community of ecomorphological traits such as tooth structure,limb proportions,body mass,leaf shape,incubation temperature,claw shape,any aspect of anatomy or physiology can be measured across some subset of the organisms in a *** of temporal or spatial scale,traits are the means by which organisms interact with their environment,biotic and *** measures these interactions by focusing on traits which are easily measurable,whose structure is closely related to their function,and whose function interacts directly with local *** trait distributions are thus a comparatively universal metric for exploring systems dynamics at all *** main challenge now is to move beyond investigating how future climate change will affect the distribution of organisms and how it will impact ecosystem services and to shift the perspective to ask how biotic systems interact with changing climate in general,and how climate change affects the interactions within and between the components of the whole biotic-physical *** believe that it is possible to provide believable,quantitative answers to these *** of this we have initiated an IUBS program iCCB(integrative Climate Change Biology).
