Hydrogen peroxide （H2O2） operates as a signaling molecule in eukaryotes, but the specificity of its signal- ing capacities remains largely unrevealed. Here, we analyzed whether a moderate production of H2O2 from two different plant cellular compartments has divergent effects on the plant transcriptome. Arabidopsis thaliana overexpressing glycolate oxidase in the chloroplast （Fahnenstich et al., 2008; Balazadeh et al., 2012） and plants deficient in peroxisomal catalase （Queval et al., 2007; Inze et al., 2012） were grown under non-photorespiratory conditions and then transferred to photorespiratory conditions to foster the production of H202 in both organelles. We show that H202 originating in a specific organelle induces two types of responses： one that integrates signals independently from the subcellular site of H202 production and another that is dependent on the H2O2 production site. H2O2 produced in peroxisomes induces transcripts involved in protein repair responses, while H2O2 produced in chloroplasts induces early signaling responses, including transcription factors and biosynthetic genes involved in production of secondary signaling messengers. there is a significant bias towards the induction of genes involved in responses to wounding and pathogen attack by chloroplas- tic-produced H202, including indolic glucosinolates-, camalexin-, and stigmasterol-biosynthetic genes. these transcriptional responses were accompanied by the accumulation of 4-methoxy-indol-3-ylmethyl glucosinolate and stigmasterol.

Aims In contrast to temperate regions,the reasons for growth reductions of individual tree species along elevational gradients in tropical mountain ranges are poorly known,especially for tropical *** aimed at testing whether climatic or edaphic conditions are responsible for the reduced growth of Pinus kesiya,a widely distributed pine species of southern and south-eastern Asia,at higher *** We analysed the stem diameter increment and the isotope discrimination against ^(13)C(△^(13)C)in tree rings of *** along an elevational gradient of~900 to~2000 m *** the mountain ranges of South-Central Vietnam,and related growth to△^(13)C and to climatic and edaphic *** findings We found no consistent correlation patterns between the basal area increment(BAI)of the trees and temperature or *** contrast,across the elevational gradient,we obtained significantly negative correlations of BAI with△^(13)C and with the C/N ratios and theδ^(15)N signature of the upper mineral *** was positively correlated with the concentrations of plant-available phosphorus(P_(a))and of“base”cations(calcium,magnesium,potassium)in the *** conclude that lower temperatures at higher elevations exert an indirect effect on tree growth by inducing higher C/N ratios and by reducing the rate of nitrogen(N)and P mineralization,which may be further hampered by lower concentrations of“base”cations(upon enhanced leaching by precipitation)and a negative feedback from low availability of mineralized N and P at higher *** results may be transferable to the uppermost growth limit of *** and to other montane regions of the species’occurrence.

the~790 ka Australasian(micro)tektite strewn field is one of the most recent and best-known examples of impact ejecta emplacement as the result of a large-scale cratering event across a considerable part of Earth's surface(>10%in area).the Australasian strewn field is characterized by a tri-lobe pattern consisting of a large central distribution lobe,and two smaller side lobes extending to the west and ***,we report on the discovery of microtektite-like particles in sedimentary traps,containing abundant micrometeorite material,in the Sør Rondane mountain(SRm)range of East *** thirty-three glassy particles display a characteristic pale yellowcolor and are predominantly spherical in shape,except for a single dumbbell-shaped *** vitreous spherules range in size from220 to 570μm,with an average diameter of~370μ*** compares relatively well with the size distribution(75–778μm)of Australasian microtektites previously recovered from the transantarcticmountains(tAm)and located ca.2500–3000 km fromthe *** addition,the chemical composition of the SRm particles exhibits limited variation and is nearly identical to the‘normal-type’(i.e.,mgO)tAm *** Sr and Nd isotope systematics for a single batch of SRm particles(n=26)strongly support their affiliation with tAmmicrotektites and the Australasian tektite strewn field in ***,Sr isotope ratios and Nd model ages suggest that the target material of the SRm particles was composed of a plagioclase-or carbonate-rich lithology derived from a Paleo-or mesoproterozoic crustal *** affiliation to the Australasian strewn field requires long-range transportation,with estimated great circle distances of ca.11,600 km from the hypothetical source crater,provided transportation occurred along the central distribution *** is in agreement with the observations made for the Australasian microtektites recovered from Victoria Land(ca.11,000 km)and Larkman Nunatak(ca.12,000 km),w

Granitoid intrusives such as Saishitenshan, tuanyushan, Aolaohe and Sanchagou occur widely in the western segment of North Qaidam. All these bodies trend NW, roughly parallel to the regional structure. Zircon SHRImP dating for these granites show that they range in age from Ordovician to Permian; 465.4±3.5 ma for Saishitenshan, 469.7±4.6 ma and 443.5±3.6 ma for tuanyushan, 372.1±2.6 ma for Aolaohe, and 271.2±1.5 ma and 259.9±1.2 ma for Sanchagou. Both the tuanyshan and Aolaohe plutons record two distinct intrusive events. Geochemically, the early Paleozoic granites have an island arc or active continental margin affinity, and their protolith may have been mesoproterozoic oceanic crust derived from depleted mantle. the protolith of the late Paleozoic granites may have been mesoproterozoic lower crust from the root of an island arc with the magmas reflecting a mixture of mantle and crustal material.

Laser surface texturing(LSt)has been proven to improve the tribological performance of machine *** micro-scale patterns manufactured by LSt may act as lubricant reservoirs,thus supplying oil when encountering insufficient ***,not many studies have investigated the use of LSt in the boundary lubrication regime,likely due to concerns of higher contact stresses that can occur with the increasing surface *** study aims to examine the influence of LSt on the fatigue lifetime of thrust rolling bearings under boundary lubrication.A series of periodic patterns were produced on the thrust rolling bearings,using two geometrically different designs,namely cross and dimple *** oil ISO VG 100 mixed with 0.05 wt%P of zinc dialkyldithiophosphate(ZDDP)was *** bearings with cross patterns reduce the wear loss by two orders of *** patterns not only retain lubricant in the textured pockets but also enhance the formation of an anti-wear *** tribofilm generation may be improved by the higher contact stresses that occur when using the textured ***,in contrast to the negative concerns,the ball bearings with cross patterns were instead found to increase the fatigue life by a factor of three.

Chiral materials,similarly to human hands,have distinguishable right-handed and left-handed enantiomers which may behave differently in response to external ***,we use for the first time an approach based on the density functional theory(DFt)+PAOFLOW calculations to quantitatively estimate the so-called collinear Rashba–Edelstein effect(REE)that generates spin accumulation parallel to charge current and can manifest as chirality-dependent charge-to-spin conversion in chiral ***,we reveal that the spin accumulation induced in the bulk by an electric current is intrinsically protected by the quasi-persistent spin helix arising from the crystal symmetries present in chiral systems with the Weyl spin–orbit *** contrast to conventional REE,spin transport can be preserved over large distances,in agreement with the recent observations for some chiral *** allows,for example,the generation of spin currents from spin accumulation,opening novel routes for the design of solid-state spintronics devices.

Aims Along central-Asian rivers in arid regions,lowering of the ground-water level constitutes a major threat to the riparian forests,whose tree layers are dominated by Euphrates poplar(Populus euphratica).Some of these fragile ecosystems are supplied with additional(‘eco-logical’)water for protection and *** investigated interrelationships among groundwater distance,stand structure and above-ground wood production(at the tree and the stand level)in *** stands along a groundwater gradient(distances of 2.0-12.0 m)that also included a plot supplied with‘ecological water’.methods We measured the height,diameter at breast height and basal area of poplar trees and determined the annual above-ground wood production for the three most recent years on the basis of tree-ring analyses and allometric regressions at three sites at the upper,mid-dle and lower reaches of the tarim River,Xinjiang,NW *** Findingsthe distribution of age classes differed significantly among the plots:in accordance with their life histories,stands growing at a larger distance to the groundwater harboured a larger fraction of old trees(>80 years)and,in most cases,a smaller fraction of young trees(≤20 years).the annual above-ground wood production per ha was highest on a plot with a short groundwater distance(2.0 m;maxi-mum of the 3-year investigation period:3.0 t ha−1 a−1)and lowest,at a plot with a large distance to the water table(6.6 m;minimum:0.23 t ha^(−1)a^(−1)).However,the plot located close to the groundwater(and to the river)at the middle reaches exhibited a relatively large interannual variation in above-ground wood production,which can be attributed to interannual variations in the river *** the middle and the lower reaches,these interannual variations on plots with the most favourable water supply were even more obvious at the tree *** the fraction of mature trees(60-99 years old),no significant differences in above-ground wood production were

A series of field trials were conducted in a commercial food storage facility to evaluate exposure of stored-product insects to aerosol formulations of synergized pyrethrins and the insect growth regulator methoprene. When adults of tribolium castaneum （Herbst）, the red flour beetle, and tribolium confusum （Jacqueline DuVal）, the confused flour beetle were exposed with and without a food source to synergized pyrethrin aerosol, there was no difference in adult mortality with respect to availability of food at either 7 or 14 days after exposure （P≥0.05）. However, mortality was lower in t. confusum （40.4% and 79.3% with flour at 7 and 14 days, 38.9% and 84.8% without flour at 7 and 14 days） compared to t. castaneum （96.5% and 99.8% with flour at 7 and 14 days, 91.0% and 98.7% without flour at 7 and 14 days）. Few late-stage larvae and pupae of either species exposed to the pyrethrin aerosol emerged as adults. In tests with methoprene aerosol, adult emergence of exposed 3- and 4-week-old larvae of t. confusum was less than 2%. Only 0.3% of 4-week-old larvae of t. castaneum exposed in open and obstructed areas emerged as adults. Emergence of adults from eggs of Plodia interpunctella （Hubner）, the Indianmeal moth, embedded in culture media and exposed to the methoprene aerosol was 13.2%±3.5%. Results show that the aerosols evaluated in our study could give effective control of some of the major storedproduct insect pests in commercial food storage facilities, and may offer an alternative to fumigation.
