Iatrogenic preterm premature rupture of fetal membranes(iPPROm)after fetal surgery remains a strong trigger for premature *** fetal membrane defects do not heal spontaneously and amniotic fluid leakage and chorioamniotic membrane separation may occur,we developed a biocompatible,fetoscopically-applicable collagen plug with shape memory to prevent *** plug expands directly upon employment and seals fetal membranes,hence preventing amniotic fluid leakage and potentially *** typeⅠcollagen plugs were given shape memory and crimped to fit through a fetoscopic cannula(Ø3 mm).Expansion of the plug was examined in phosphate buffered saline(PBS).Its sealing capacity was studied ex vivo using human fetal membranes,and in situ in a porcine bladder *** crimped plug with shape memory expanded and tripled in diameter within 1 min when placed into PBS,whereas a crimped plug without shape memory did *** both human fetal membranes and porcine bladder,the plug expanded in the defect,secured itself and sealed the defect without membrane *** conclusion,collagen plugs with shape memory are promising as medical device for rapid sealing of fetoscopic defects in fetal membranes at the endoscopic entry point.

Intensive past research has demonstrated that cytochrome P450 monooxygenases are involved in the biosynthesis of numerous natural products and in human metabolism of various pharmaceuticals [1]. this inspired synthetic organic and pharmaceutical chemists to test them as catalysts in the oxidative hydroxylation of steroids. Unfortunately, wildtype P450s generally proved to show low levels of regio-and diastereoselectivity as well as suboptimal activity.

Experimental and numerical investigation to elucidate the fluid flow through packed beds with structured particle packings

the present paper presents an experimental and numerical investigation of the dispersion of the gaseous jet flow and co-flow for the simple unit cell(SUC)and body-centred cubic(BCC)configuration of particles in packed *** experimental setup is built in such a way that suitable and simplified boundary conditions are imposed for the corresponding numerical framework,so the simulations can be done under very similar conditions as the ***,a porous plate is used for the co-flow to achieve the uniform velocity and the fully developed flow is ensured for the jet *** SUC and BCC particle beds consist of 3D-printed spheres,and the non-isotropy near the walls is mostly eliminated by placing half-spheres at the channel *** flow velocities are analysed directly at the exit of the particle bed for both beds over 36 pores for the SUC configuration and 60 pores for the BCC configuration,for particle Reynolds numbers of 200,300,and *** particle image velocimetry is experimentally arranged in such a way that the velocities over the entire region at the exit of the packed bed are obtained *** numerical method consists of a state-of-the-art immersed boundary method with adaptive mesh *** paper presents the pore jet structure and velocity field exiting from each pore for the SUC and BCC packed particle *** numerical and experimental studies show a good agreement for the SUC configuration for all flow *** the BCC configuration,some differences can be observed in the pore jet flow structure between the simulations and the experiments,but the general flow velocity distribution shows a good overall *** axial velocity is generally higher for the pores located near the centre of the packed bed than for the pores near the *** addition,the axial velocities are observed to increase near the peripheral pores of the packed *** behaviour is predominant for the BCC configuration as compared to t

Selective Suspension in Aqueous Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate According to Electronic Structure type Allows Simple Separation of metallic from Semiconducting Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Both density gradient centrifugation and gel electrophoresis have been reported to allow high throughput separation of metallic from semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNts)when using aqueous sodium dodecyl sulphate(SDS)*** show here that both methods rely on an initial dispersion-by-sonication step,which is already selective with respect to electronic structure *** corresponding aqueous SDS“starting”suspensions obtained after sonication and purifi cation by simple centrifugation(70,000 g,1 h)contain semiconducting SWNts primarily in the form of small bundles whereas metallic SWNts are predominantly suspended as individual *** gradient centrifugation then separates the bundles from the individual tubes on the basis of differences in their overall buoyant *** electrophoresis separates the longer bundles from the shorter individual tubes on the basis of their different *** also demonstrate that such starting suspensions can be fractionated according to electronic structure type by even simpler techniques such as size exclusion chromatography or gel fi ltration,thus opening the way for simple scale-up.

Growth of the tropical Pinus kesiya as influenced by climate and nutrient availability along an elevational gradient

Aims In contrast to temperate regions,the reasons for growth reductions of individual tree species along elevational gradients in tropical mountain ranges are poorly known,especially for tropical *** aimed at testing whether climatic or edaphic conditions are responsible for the reduced growth of Pinus kesiya,a widely distributed pine species of southern and south-eastern Asia,at higher *** We analysed the stem diameter increment and the isotope discrimination against ^(13)C(△^(13)C)in tree rings of *** along an elevational gradient of~900 to~2000 m *** the mountain ranges of South-Central Vietnam,and related growth to△^(13)C and to climatic and edaphic *** findings We found no consistent correlation patterns between the basal area increment(BAI)of the trees and temperature or *** contrast,across the elevational gradient,we obtained significantly negative correlations of BAI with△^(13)C and with the C/N ratios and theδ^(15)N signature of the upper mineral *** was positively correlated with the concentrations of plant-available phosphorus(P_(a))and of“base”cations(calcium,magnesium,potassium)in the *** conclude that lower temperatures at higher elevations exert an indirect effect on tree growth by inducing higher C/N ratios and by reducing the rate of nitrogen(N)and P mineralization,which may be further hampered by lower concentrations of“base”cations(upon enhanced leaching by precipitation)and a negative feedback from low availability of mineralized N and P at higher *** results may be transferable to the uppermost growth limit of *** and to other montane regions of the species’occurrence.

the~790 ka Australasian(micro)tektite strewn field is one of the most recent and best-known examples of impact ejecta emplacement as the result of a large-scale cratering event across a considerable part of Earth's surface(>10%in area).the Australasian strewn field is characterized by a tri-lobe pattern consisting of a large central distribution lobe,and two smaller side lobes extending to the west and ***,we report on the discovery of microtektite-like particles in sedimentary traps,containing abundant micrometeorite material,in the Sør Rondane mountain(SRm)range of East *** thirty-three glassy particles display a characteristic pale yellowcolor and are predominantly spherical in shape,except for a single dumbbell-shaped *** vitreous spherules range in size from220 to 570μm,with an average diameter of~370μ*** compares relatively well with the size distribution(75–778μm)of Australasian microtektites previously recovered from the transantarcticmountains(tAm)and located ca.2500–3000 km fromthe *** addition,the chemical composition of the SRm particles exhibits limited variation and is nearly identical to the‘normal-type’(i.e.,mgO)tAm *** Sr and Nd isotope systematics for a single batch of SRm particles(n=26)strongly support their affiliation with tAmmicrotektites and the Australasian tektite strewn field in ***,Sr isotope ratios and Nd model ages suggest that the target material of the SRm particles was composed of a plagioclase-or carbonate-rich lithology derived from a Paleo-or mesoproterozoic crustal *** affiliation to the Australasian strewn field requires long-range transportation,with estimated great circle distances of ca.11,600 km from the hypothetical source crater,provided transportation occurred along the central distribution *** is in agreement with the observations made for the Australasian microtektites recovered from Victoria Land(ca.11,000 km)and Larkman Nunatak(ca.12,000 km),w
