Neuromuscular trunk activation patterns in back pain patients during one-handed lifting

AIm To analyze neuromuscular activity patterns of the trunk in healthy controls(H) and back pain patients(BPP) during one-handed lifting of light to heavy loads. mETHODS After assessment of back pain(graded chronic pain scale according to von Korff) all subjects(n = 43) performed a warm-up(treadmill walking). Next, subjects were instructed to lift 3 × a 20 kg weight placed in front of them(with both hand) onto a table(height: 0.75 m). Subsequently, all subjects lifted with one hand(left-side, 3 repetitions) a weight of 1 kg(light), 10 kg(middle) and 20 kg(heavy) in random order from the ground up onto the table left of them. Trunk muscle activity was assessed with a 12-lead EmG(6 ventral/6 dorsal muscles; 4000 Hz). EmG-RmS(%) was averaged over the 3 repetitions and analyzed for the whole one-handed lifting cycle, then normalized to RmS of the two-handed lifting. Additionally, the mean(normalized) EmG-RmS of four trunk areas [right/left ventral area(VR/VL); right/left dorsal area(DR/DL)] was calculated. Data were analyzed descriptively(mean ± SD) followed by student's t-test comparing H and BPP(α = 0.05). With respect to the unequal distribution of subjects in H and BPP, a matched-group analysis was conducted. Seven healthy controls were gender- and age-matched(group H_(matched)) to the 7 BPP. In addition, task failure was calculated and compared between H/H_(matched) vs BPP using χ~2. RESULTS Seven subjects(3m/4f; 32 ± 7 years; 171 ± 7 cm; 65 ± 11 kg) were assigned to BPP(pain grade ≥ 2) and 36(13m/23f; 28 ± 8 years; 174 ± 10 cm; 71 ± 12 kg) to H(pain grade ≤ 1). H and BPP did not differ significantly in anthropometrics(P > 0.05). All subjects were able to lift the light and middle loads, but 57% of BPP and 22% of H were not able to lift the heavy load(all women). χ~2 analysis revealed statistically significant differences in task failure between H vs BPP(P = 0.03). Subcurative radiation significantly increases cell proliferation, invasion, and migration of primary glioblastoma multiforme in vivo

Tumor cell proliferation, infiltration, migration, and neovascularization are known causes of treatment resistance in glioblastoma multiforme(GBm). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of radiation on the growth characteristics of primary human GBm developed in a nude rat. Primary GBm cells grown from explanted GBm tissues were implanted orthotopically in nude rats. Tumor growth was confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging on day 77(baseline) after implantation. The rats underwent irradiation to a dose of 50 Gy delivered subcuratively on day 84 postimplantation(n = 8), or underwent no radiation(n = 8). Brain tissues were obtained on day 112(nonirradiated) or day 133(irradiated). Immunohistochemistry was performed to determine tumor cell proliferation(Ki-67) and to assess the expression of infiltration marker(matrix metalloproteinase-2, mmP-2) and cell migration marker(CD44). Tumor neovascularization was assessed by microvessel density using von-Willebrand factor(vWF) staining. magnetic resonance imaging showed well-developed, infiltrative tumors in 11 weeks postimplantation. The proportion of Ki-67-positive cells in tumors undergoing radiation was(71 ± 15)% compared with(25 ± 12)% in the nonirradiated group(P = 0.02). The number of mmP-2-positive areas and proportion of CD44-positive cells were also high in tumors receiving radiation, indicating great invasion and infiltration. microvessel density analysis did not show a significant difference between nonirradiated and irradiated tumors. Taken together, we found that subcurative radiation significantly increased proliferation, invasion, and migration of primary GBm. Our study provides insights into possible mechanisms of treatment resistance following radiation therapy for GBm.

Reservoir Volcanic Rocks: Geology and Geochemistry, the mesozoic Non-marine songliao Basin, NE China

The reservoir volcanic rocks in songliao Basin include the Lower Cretaceous (K1yc Form.,114～135 ma, acidic rocks) and the Upper Jurassic (J3hs Form., 145～158 ma, intermediate rocks). Vesicles coupled with faults make the volcanic reservoir spaces which do not as badly getting worse with buried depth as those of sediments generally doing. The flood rhyolites of the Lower Cretaceous cover ca. 100 000 km2 with relict thickness from 100 m to more than 1 000 m. They are high-silica, rich in aluminum and potassium, high REE contents with large negative Eu anomalies, thus believed also be formed by the large-scale sialic crust partial-melting. The andesitic rocks of the Upper Jurassic are rich in Al and K, but with lower REE contents and minor negative Eu anomalies, as well as dispersal patterns of HREE. They are believed to be produced by progressively shallower partial-melting where the fractionation of garnet and/or zircon may be involved. The most probable heat sources provided for the long-lasting volcanisms in the songliao Basin is the subduction of the Okhotsk plate.

Integrated Design of a Compact and Lightweight S-Band Traveling-Wave Tube Amplifier for a New Class of microwave Power module

A new class of compact and lightweight S-band 1 kW traveling-wave tube (TWT) is being developed for a microwave power module (mPm) that will be used for phased antenna array radar applications. The proposed S-band mPm provides a tenfold peak power increase compared to state-of-the-art S-band mPms. In this paper, the design of the vacuum power booster TWT part of the mPm is presented. The compact and lightweight S-band TWT is driven by a 6 kV, 0.9 A electron beam. The amplifier is predicted by large-signal simulations to generate over 1 kW at S-band with 25 dB saturated gain and over 40% efficiency. The stability from unwanted oscillations has been investigated. To suppress the oscillations, the helix circuit has been coated with carbon composite material. The coaxial input and output antennas have been fabricated. For efficiency enhancement, a multi-stage depressed collector (mDC) has been designed using a 3D particle-in-cell (PIC) simulator, VORPAL. The collector design makes use of a current loop based on a feedback mechanism for effective design process. The integrated designs of a helix circuit, an electron gun, a periodic permanent magnet (PPm), antennas, and a collector are presented.

This study is a re-assessment of basidiolichen diversity in the Galapagos *** present a molecular phylogenetic analysis,based on 92 specimens from Galapagos,using two nuclear ribosomal DNA markers(ITS and nuLSU).We also re-examined the morphology and anatomy of all sequenced *** molecular results confirm our previous assessment that all Galapagos basidiolichens belong to the Dictyonema clade,which in Galapagos is represented by four genera:Acantholichen,Cora,Cyphellostereum,and *** species previously reported from Galapagos in these genera were at the time believed to represent widely distributed *** conclusion,however,has changed with the inclusion of molecular *** almost the same number of species is distinguished,the phylogenetic data now suggest that all are restricted to the Galapagos *** them,six species are proposed here as new to science,namely Cora galapagoensis,Cyphellostereum unoquinoum,Dictyonema barbatum,***,***,and ***;and four species have already been described previously,namely Acantholichen galapagoensis,Cora santacruzensis,Dictyonema pectinatum,and ***,here recombined as Cyphellostereum *** analysis is set on a very broad phylogenetic framework,which includes a large number of specimens(N=826)mainly from Central and South America,and therefore strongly suggests an unusually high level of endemism previously not *** analysis also shows that the closest relatives of half of the basidiolichens now found in Galapagos are from mainland Ecuador,implying that they reached the islands through the shortest route,with all species arriving on the islands through independent colonization events.

利用基于monteith光能利用率理论的碳通量估算模型C- FIX,1km分辨率逐旬SPOT/ VEGETATION遥感数据和全球1.5°×1.5°格网化逐日气象数据,估算了2 0 0 2年中国西部地区植被净初级生产力(NPP)。对西部地区植被NPP的空间分布格局、季节变化及不同土地利用类型植被的NPP总量和平均生产力水平进行了初步研究。结果表明:2 0 0 2年我国西部地区植被年NPP总量约为0 .96 Pg C(1Pg=10 1 5g)。西部地区年NPP空间分布基本格局是东南和西北两区域高,然后以东南西北方向为轴心逐渐向内陆中心迅速递减,该分布格局与各区域的水热条件差异和植被类型的地带性分异规律紧密相关。西部地区陆地生态系统NPP具有显著的季相变化规律,这与温度、降水的季节变化以及人为生产活动安排有很高的相关性。西部地区尽管土地面积广阔,由于区域气候和自然条件相对恶劣,导致土地资源可利用率差,生态系统整体生产力水平相对低下,区域内各种土地利用类型植被的生产力水平差异大且空间分布十分不均衡,是我国生态环境相对脆弱的区域。
