The offshore Northern shrimp(Pandalus borealis)bottom trawl fishery in eastern Canada currently uses 22 and 28 mm bar spacing Nordmøre grids to limit bycatch from using small mesh ***,a recent rebound of juvenile redfish(Sebastes spp.),that can pass through the grids,has greatly increased *** address this concern,this study investigated the effectiveness of 17 and 15 mm bar spacing Nordmøre grids in a twin-trawl(paired)configuration against the traditional 22 mm bar spacing *** selectivity analyses showed that the 17 and 15 mm grids resulted in no significant reduction in shrimp catch across all length *** 17 mm grid significantly reduced redfish bycatch for all length classes and the 15 mm grid significantly reduced redfish bycatch for individuals larger than 95 mm total *** redfish entered the codend with the experimental grids,however,the overlap in width between redfish and Northern shrimp limits the overall sorting efficiency of the grids,leaving some redfish still vulnerable to capture.

AIm To examine the evidence behind the use of concentrated bone marrow aspirate(c BmA) in cartilage, bone, and tendon repair; establish proof of concept for the use of cB mA in these biologic environments; and provide the level and quality of evidence substantiating the use of cB mA in the clinical *** We conducted a systematic review according to PRISmA guidelines. EmBASE, mEDLINE, and Web of Knowledge databases were screened for the use of cB mA in the repair of cartilage, bone, and tendon repair. We extracted data on tissue type, cB mA preparation, cB mA concentration, study methods, outcomes, and level of evidence and reported the results in tables and *** A total of 36 studies met inclusion/exclusion criteria and were included in this review. Thirty-one of 36(86%) studies reported the method of centrifugation and preparation of cB mA with 15(42%) studies reporting either a cell concentration or an increase from baseline. Variation of c BmA application was seen amongst the studies evaluated. Twenty-one of 36(58%) were level of evidence Ⅳ, 12/36(33%) were level of evidence Ⅲ, and 3/36(8%) were level of evidence Ⅱ. Studies evaluated full thickness chondral lesions(7 studies), osteochondral lesions(10 studies), osteoarthritis(5 studies), nonunion or fracture(9 studies), or tendon injuries(5 studies). Significant clinical improvement with the presence of hyaline-like values and lower incidence of fibrocartilage on T2 mapping was found in patients receiving cB mA in the treatment of cartilaginous lesions. Bone consolidation and time to bone union was improved in patients receiving cB mA. Enhanced healingrates, improved quality of the repair surface on ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging, and a decreased risk of re-rupture was demonstrated in patients receiving cB mA as an adjunctive treatment in tendon repair. This work presents isotopic data for the non-traditional isotope systems Fe,Cu,and Zn on a set of Chicxulub impactites and target lithologies with the aim of better documenting the dynamic processes taking place during hypervelocity impact events,as well as those affecting impact structures during the post-impact *** focus lies on material from the recent IODP-ICDP Expedition 364 Hole m0077A drill core obtained from the offshore Chicxulub peak *** ejecta blanket samples from the UNAm 5 and 7 cores were used to compare the crater lithologies with those outside of the impact *** datasets of bulk Fe,Cu,and Zn isotope ratios are coupled with petrographic observations and bulk major and trace element compositions to disentangle equilibrium isotope fractionation effects from kinetic *** observed Fe and Cu isotopic signatures,with δ^(56/54)Fe ranging from0.95‰to 0.58‰and δ^(65/63)Cu from0.73‰to 0.14‰,mostly reflect felsic,mafic,and carbonate target lithology mixing and secondary sulfide mineral formation,the latter associated to the extensive and long-lived(>105 years)hydrothermal system within Chicxulub *** the other hand,the stable Zn isotope ratios provide evidence for volatility-governed isotopic *** heavier Zn isotopic compositions observed for the uppermost part of the impactite sequence and a metamorphic clast(δ^(66/64)Zn of up to 0.80‰and 0.87‰,respectively)relative to most basement lithologies and impact melt rock units indicate partial vaporization of Zn,comparable to what has been observed for Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary layer sediments around the world,as well as for tektites from various strewn *** contrast to previous work,our data indicate that an isotopically light Zn reservoir(δ^(66/64)Zn down to0.49‰),of which the existence has previously been suggested based on mass balance considerations,may reside within the upper impact melt rock(UIm)*** observation is restricted to a few UIm sampl

Optimising workflow in andrology: a new electronic patient record and database

Aim： To improve workflow and usability by introduction of a new electronic patient record （EPR） and database. methods： Establishment of an EPR based on open source technology （mySQL database and PI-IP scripting language） in a tertiary care andrology center at a university clinic. Workflow analysis, a benchmark comparing the two systems and a survey for usability and ergonomics were carried out. Results： Workflow optimizations （electronic ordering of laboratory analysis, elimination of transcription steps and automated referral letters） and the decrease in time required for data entry per patient to 71% ± 27%, P 〈 0.05, lead to a workload reduction. The benchmark showed a significant performance increase （highest with starting the respective system： 1.3 ± 0.2 s vs. 11.1 ± 0.2 s, mean ± SD）. In the survey, users rated the new system at least two ranks higher over its predecessor （P 〈 0.01） in all sub-areas. Conclusion： With further improvements, today＇s EPR can evolve to substitute paper records, saving time （and possibly costs）, supporting user satisfaction and expanding the basis for scientific evaluation when more data is electronically available. Newly introduced systems should be versatile, adaptable for users, and workflow-oriented to yield the highest benefit. Background: The White-faced Cuckoo-dove(Turacoena manadensis) is a poorly-known Wallacean endemic with a limited distribution on Sulawesi and its satellites, including the Togian, Banggai and Sula archipelagoes. In 1900, populations from the Sula archipelago were awarded subspecies status T. manadensis sulaensis based on smaller size and minor differences in plumage; however, this distinction has not been corroborated subsequently, and T. manadensis is considered by most modern sources to be monotypic across its ***: We conducted vocal analysis of the cuckoo-doves' main song using recordings collected from across the taxon's natural range. Descriptive information on the songs was obtained from the recordings using bioacoustic analysis software, after which several statistical methods were used to investigate differences in vocalizations among ***: We report deep bioacoustic divergences in vocal trait pattern from across the cuckoo-doves' range, with birds from Peleng and Taliabu in the east having a different vocal trait pattern from birds from Sulawesi, Buton, and Togian in the west. These patterns agree with changes in landmass that accompanied the sea level fluctuations caused by Pleistocene glacial cycles, and indicate that eastern and western cuckoo-dove populations are at the level of different biological ***: We propose that the eastern taxon be elevated to species level as T. sulaensis. Given the rampant degree of habitat destruction in its limited range, this taxonomic change will have important implications on the conservation status of T. sulaensis.

The design and development of low-cost and efficient photovoltaic materials remain a major challenge for the research and application of polymer solar cells(PSCs).Therefore,developing efficient photovoltaic polymers with simple structure and easy preparation has become an important research *** we report a facilely synthesized electron-donating polymer X1 with a simple chemical structure,which is composed of carboxylated benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophene(BDT)and thiophene *** carboxylate substituents on the BDT unit endowed the polymer with appropriate solubility,low-lying highest occupied molecular orbital(HOmO)energy level,and superior *** PSCs based on X1 as the donor showed a high power conversion efficiency of 16.6%,with a remarkable short-circuit current density of 27.07 m A cm^(-2).These results demonstrated that X1 is a highly promising candidate for low-cost and efficient ***,this study revealed the potential of carboxylated BDT as an effective building block in the research and development of high-performance photovoltaic materials.

AIm: To investigate the effect of vitamin supplements on homocysteine levels in patients with celiac disease. mETHODS: Vitamin B6, folate, vitamin B12, and fasting plasma homocysteine levels were measured in 51 consecutive adults with celiac disease [median (range) age 56 (18-63) years; 40% men, 26 (51%) had villous atrophy, and 25 (49%) used B-vitamin supplements] and 50 healthy control individuals matched for age and sex. Finally, the C677T polymorphism of 5,10-methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (mTHFR) was evaluated in 46 patients with celiac disease and all control individuals. RESULTS: Patients with celiac disease and using vitamin supplements had higher serum vitamin B6 (P = 0.003),folate (P min B12 (P = 0.012) levels than patients who did not or healthy controls (P = 0.035, P min B6, folate, and vitamin B12, respectively). Lower plasma homocysteine levels were found in patients using vitamin supplements than in patients who did not (P = 0.001) or healthy controls (P = 0.003). However, vitamin B6 and folate, not vitamin B12, were significantly and independently associated with homocysteine levels. Twenty-four (48%) of 50 controls and 23 (50%) of 46 patients with celiac disease carried the mTHFR thermolabile variant T-allele (P = 0.89). CONCLUSION: Homocysteine levels are dependent on marsh classification and the regular use of B-vitamin supplements is effective in reduction of homocysteine levels in patients with celiac disease and should be considered in disease management.

Water relations of Alhagi sparsifolia Shap. at the transition zone between oases and sandy desert were studied in the southern fringe of Taklamakan Desert. Results showed that A. sparsifolia maintained the positive turgor during the summer. The steady high predawn water potential (psi(P)) indicated A. sparsifolia had sufficient hydration and water supply in growing season. In July, water deficit caused by drought stress had no effect on the transpiration of A. sparsifolia. Therefore, drought stress is not a main factor affecting the survival of plants. The physiological adaptation to drought of A. sparsifolia was shown mainly at the leaf level by significant difference (DeltaII) and relative water content (RWC) between the osmotic pressure at full turgor and at turgor loss, by occurring of osmotic adjustment, by high percentage of dry mass-related water content ( WCsat), by RWC at turgor loss point ( RWCp) in stable level and low RWC of the saturated symplast (RWCsym). However, the morphological features of transpiring surface reduction and deep root system seem to be the main way for the plant to adapt to the extreme drought environment. Result also suggests that one time of irregular irrigation in summer will not be helpful to recover water status of A. sparsifolia in location where the water table is very low.

Oil spill-induced vapor cloud explosions in a confined space can cause catastrophic *** this work,investigation was conducted on the catastrophic pipeline leak,oil spill,and the resulting vapor cloud explosion accident occurring in China in 2013 by modeling analysis,field surveys,and numerical *** total amount of the spilled oil was up to2044.4 m3 due to improper *** long residence time of the oil remaining in a confined space permitted the formation of explosive mixtures and caused the vapor cloud explosion.A numerical model was developed to estimate the consequence of the explosion based on volatilization testing *** results show that the death-leading zone and the glass-breaking zone could be 18 m and 92 m,respectively,which are consistent with the field *** severity of the explosion is related to the amount of the oil spill,properties of oil,and volatilization *** is recommended that a comprehensive risk assessment be conducted to analyze the possible consequences upon oil spilling into a confined *** collection and ventilation measures should be taken immediately after the spill occurs to reduce the time for oil volatilization and prevent the mixture from reaching its explosive limit.

The polymer surface relaxation in thin films has been a long debating issue. We report a new method on studying surface relaxation behaviors of polymer thin films on a solid substrate. This method involved utilizing a rubbed polyimide surface with a pretilting angle in a liquid crystalline cell. Due to the surface alignment, the liquid crystals were aligned along the rubbing direction. During heating the liquid crystalline cell, we continuously monitored the change of orientation of the liquid crystals. It is understood that at a temperature where the orientation of liquid crystal is lost, the surface relaxation on the glass substrate takes place to lose the polyimide surface orientation. It was found that the relaxation temperature at which the liquid crystals lose their orientation depends on the film thickness of the polyimide. A quantitative linear relationship between the relaxation temperature and reciprocal of the film thickness can be observed. Furthermore, different topologies of the rubbed and relaxed thin films were amplified using the polyethylene decoration method and observed using atomic force microscopy.
