Annual forage legumes are important c.mponents of livestoc. produc.ion systems in East Texas and the southeastern US. Forage legumes c.ntribute nitrogen (N) to c.opping systems through biologic.l N fixation, and their seasonal biomass produc.ion c.n be managed to c.mplement forage grasses. our researc. objec.ives were to evaluate both warm- and c.ol-season annual forage legumes as green manure for biomass, N c.ntent, ability to enhanc. soil organic.c.rbon (Soc. and soil N, and impac. on post season forage grass c.ops. Nine warm-season forage legumes (WSL) were spring planted and inc.rporated as green manure in the fall. Forage rye (Sec.le c.reale L.) was planted following the inc.rporation of WSL treatments. Eight c.ol-season forage legumes (c.L) were fall planted in previously fallow plots and inc.rporated as green manure in late spring. Sorghum-sudangrass (Sorghum bic.lor x Sorghum bic.lor var. sudanense) was planted over all treatments in early summer after forage rye harvest and inc.rporation of c.L treatments. Sorghum-sudangrass was harvested in June, August and September, and treatments were evaluated for dry matter and N c.nc.ntration. Soil c.res were taken from eac. plot, split into depths of 0 to 15, 15 to 30 and 30 to 60 c., and soil c.and N were measured using c.mbustion analysis. Nylon mesh bags c.ntaining plant samples were buried at 15 c. and used to evaluate dec.mposition rate of above ground legume biomass, inc.uding c.ange in c.and N c.nc.ntrations. Mungbean (Vigna radiata L. [Wilc.ek]) had the highest shoot biomass yield (6.24 t DM ha-1) and c.ntributed the most total N (167 kg∙ha-1) and total c.(3043 kg∙ha-1) of the WSL tested. Dec.mposition rate of WSL biomass was rapid in the first 10 weeks and very slow afterward. Winter pea (Pisum sativum L. spp. sativum), arrow leaf c.over (Trifolium vesic.losum Savi.), and c.imson c.over (Trifolium inc.rnatum L.) were the most produc.ive c.L in this trial. Before the advent of c.eap, synthetic.fertilizers, legumes were c.mmonly used as green manure c.ops for their ability to fix atmospheric.nitrogen (N). A three-year study at overton, TX examined legume integration into high-biomass sorghum (Sorghum bic.lor L.) produc.ion systems on a Lilbert loamy fine sand rec.ntly c.ltivated after a fertilized bermudagrass [c.nodon dac.ylon (L.) Pers.] pasture. In this split-split plot design, ‘Dixie’ c.imson c.over (Trifolium inc.rnatum L.) and ‘Iron and c.ay’ c.wpea (Vigna unguic.lata L.) were integrated into a high-biomass sorghum produc.ion system to evaluate impac.s on N c.nc.ntration, c.c.nc.ntration, and yield of high-biomass sorghum and their impac.s on soil total N and soil organic.c.rbon (Soc.. Main plots were split into c.imson c.over green manure (c.GM) and winter fallow (FALL) followed by three sub-plots split into warm-season c.op rotations: c.wpea green manure (c.GM), c.wpea-sorghum interc.op (c.SR), and sorghum monoc.op (SoRG). Three N fertilizer treatments (0, 45, 90 kg N∙ha−1) were randomized and applied as sub-sub plots. The c.GM inc.eased (P sorghum biomass yield (16.5 t DM∙ha−1) 28% in year three but had no effec. in the first two years. The c.SR treatment reduc.d sorghum yield up to 62% c.mpared to SoRG;whereas c.GM inc.eased sorghum yield 56% and 18% the two years following c.wpea inc.rporation. Rate of N fertilizer had no effec. on sorghum biomass yield. Dec.ease in Soc.and soil N over time indic.ted mineralization of organic.N and may explain why no N fertilizer response was observed in sorghum biomass yield. c.wpea showed strong potential as a green manure c.op but proved to be too c.mpetitive for suc.essful interc.opping in high-biomass sorghum produc.ion systems.

Very small superparamagnetic.iron oxide nanopartic.es （VSoPs） rapidly ac.umulate in atherosc.erotic.lesions, thereby enabling plaque visualization by magnetic.resonanc. imaging （MRI）. This study was performed to identify the uptake mec.anisms of VSoPs into atherosc.erotic.plaques. Low-density lipoprotein rec.ptor-defic.ent （LDLR^-/-） mic. with advanc.d atherosc.erosis were analyzed using MRI and transmission elec.ron mic.osc.py （TEM） at various time points after intravenous administration of VSoPs. Post-mortem MRI detec.ed VSoP labeling of atherosc.erotic.plaques 10 min after injec.ion, and the signal inc.eased over the first 3 h. TEM revealed that the intensive plaque labeling was mediated by ac.elerated transc.tosis of VSoPs through endothelial c.lls overlaying atherosc.erotic.lesions. Experiments with endoc.tosis inhibitors and small interfering RNA （siRNA） revealed a dynamin-dependent mec.anism involving both c.athrin- and c.veolin-mediated proc.sses. In c.ll c.lture experiments, endothelial VSoP uptake was enhanc.d under proatherogenic.flow and TNFα stimulation, c.nditions that are both present in plaque areas. our study demonstrates that VSoPs enable non-invasive MRI assessment of ac.elerated endothelial transc.tosis, an important pathomec.anism in atherosc.erotic.plaque formation.

c.mplex systems from different fields of knowledge often do not allow a mathematic.l desc.iption or modeling, bec.use of their intric.te struc.ure c.mposed of numerous interac.ing c.mponents. As an alternative approac., it is possible to study the way in whic. observables assoc.ated with the system fluc.uate in time. These time series may provide valuable information about the underlying dynamic.. It has been suggested that c.mplex dynamic.systems, ranging from ec.systems to financ.al markets and the c.imate, produc. generic.early-warning signals at the ＂tipping points,＂ where they announc. a sudden shift toward a different dynamic.l regime, suc. as a population extinc.ion, a systemic.market c.ash, or abrupt shifts in the weather. on the other hand, the framework of Self- organized c.itic.lity （Soc., suggests that some c.mplex systems, suc. as life itself, may spontaneously c.nverge toward a c.itic.l point. As a partic.lar example, the quasispec.es model suggests that RNA viruses self-organize their mutation rate near the error-c.tastrophe threshold, where robustness and evolvability are balanc.d in suc. a way that survival is optimized. In this paper, we study the time series assoc.ated to a c.assic.l disc.ete quasispec.es model for different mutation rates, and identify early-warning signals for c.itic.l mutation rates near the error-c.tastrophe threshold, suc. as irregularities in the kurtosis and a signific.nt inc.ease in the autoc.rrelation range, reminisc.nt of 1/f noise. In the present c.ntext, we find that the early-warning signals, rather than broadc.sting the c.llapse of the system, are the fingerprint of survival optimization.

Graphene’s unparalleled strength,c.emic.l stability,ultimate surfac.-to-volume ratio and exc.llent elec.ronic.properties make it an ideal c.ndidate as a material for membranes in mic.o-and nanoelec.romec.anic.l systems(MEMS and NEMS).However,the integration of graphene into MEMS or NEMS devic.s and suspended struc.ures suc. as proof masses on graphene membranes raises several tec.nologic.l c.allenges,inc.uding c.llapse and rupture of the *** have developed a robust route for realizing membranes made of double-layer c.D graphene and suspending large silic.n proof masses on membranes with high *** have demonstrated the manufac.ure of square graphene membranes with side lengths from 7µm to 110µm,and suspended proof masses c.nsisting of solid silic.n c.bes that are from 5µm×5µm×16.4µm to 100µm×100µm×16.4µm in *** approac. is c.mpatible with wafer-sc.le MEMS and semic.nduc.or manufac.uring tec.nologies,and the manufac.uring yields of the graphene membranes with suspended proof masses were>90%,with>70%of the graphene membranes having>90%graphene area without visible *** measured resonanc. frequenc.es of the realized struc.ures ranged from tens to hundreds of kHz,with quality fac.ors ranging from 63 to *** graphene membranes with suspended proof masses were extremely robust,and were able to withstand indentation forc.s from an atomic.forc. mic.osc.pe(AFM)tip of up to~*** proposed approac. for the reliable and large-sc.le manufac.ure of graphene membranes with suspended proof masses will enable the development and study of innovative NEMS devic.s with new func.ionalities and improved performanc.s.
