Drug-induced pancreatitis is a gastrointestinal adverse effect concerning about 2%of *** majority of cases are mild to moderate but severe episodes can also occur,leading to hospitalization or even ***,the mechanisms of this adverse reaction are still not clear,hindering its prevention,and the majority of data available of this potentially life-threatening adverse effect are limited to case reports leading to a probable underestimation of this *** particular,in this editorial,special attention is given to thiopurine-induced pancreatitis(TIP),an idiosyncratic adverse reaction affecting around 5%of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)patients taking thiopurines as immunosuppressants,with a higher incidence in the pediatric *** biomarkers are not available to assist clinicians in the prevention of TIP,also because of the inaccessibility of the pancreatic tissue,which limits the possibility to perform dedicated cellular and molecular *** this regard,induced pluripotent stem cells(iPSCs)and the exocrine pancreatic differentiated counterpart could be a great tool to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the development of this undesirable *** particular type of stem cells is obtained by reprogramming adult cells,including fibroblasts and leukocytes,with a set of transcription factors known as the Yamanaka’s *** unaltered the donors’genetic heritage,iPSCs represent an innovative model to study the mechanisms of adverse drug reactions in individual patients’tissues not easily obtainable from human ***,iPSCs can differentiate under adequate stimuli into almost any somatic lineage,opening a new world of opportunities for *** works are already available in the literature studying liver,central nervous system and cardiac cells derived from iPSCs and adverse drug ***,to our knowledge no studies have been performed on exocrine pancreas differentiated

Objective To present the protocol and the early results of a urothelial carcinoma （UC） screening analysis performed in a risk population of coke workers. Methods Between June 2006 and October 2008, 171 male workers （mean age 43 years）, employed in a Ligurian coke plant （Italiana Coke S.r.l） and exposed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons （PAHs） for a median period of 16 years, underwent screening for UC. Urological evaluation included medical history, physical examination, routine laboratory tests, urine analysis, urinary cytology and uCyt＋ assay. In the event of signs and symptoms suggestive of UC or positive urinary tests, the workers were also subjected to urinary ultrasonography and cystoscopy with biopsy of any suspicious lesions. Results Regarding the laboratory tests, 19/171 （11%） uCyt＋ samples were considered inadequate and were excluded from the outcomes assessment. Overall, urine analysis, cytology and uCyt＋ were positive in 18/152 （12%） subjects who showed no evidence of UC at the scheduled check-ups. No significant association was identified between marker positivity and occupational activity. Conclusions Our results fail to show an increased risk of UC among the coke workers evaluated. However, they will need to be confirmed in the future by a larger enrollment and a longer follow-up in order to assess the definitive risk for UC after exposure to coke.

A review of crystallochemical thermodynamic and phase diagram data of Mg RE and Al RE based systems is presented. On the basis also of their possible applications, special attention is given to the Mg rich and Al rich alloys and to the effects of rare earth additions on their properties. A summary of the experimental work carried out by our research group on several binary and ternary alloys is reported: that is Mg RE, Al RE, and Mg RE RE′ and Al RE RE′ with two different rare earth metals. A number of regularities observed in the formation and in the crystallochemistry of binary and ternary Mg rich or Al rich phases are summarised and discussed. Their application to a fine planning of alloys having a well defined structure is suggested.

This paper reports the content of a lecture presented at the 1995 International Conference and Exhibition on Electronic Measurement and Instrumentation, held in Shanghai, China in 1995. The paper presents(thanks to the courtesy of several scientists) some of the most significant results recently obtained in the field of short range microwave imaging. The overview concerns the research activity carried out in Europe and is focused on microwave imaging for non destructive testing, civil engineering, and scientific and medical applications. This type of imaging is characterized by a relatively short distance between the object to be detected and the probes.

The cormsion in air of a two-phase Cu-75Cr alloy was studied at 700-900℃. Thealloy cormded nearly parabolically at 700-800℃, but at 900℃ its instantaneousparabolic mte constant decreased with time. The scales were complex and consistedof an outermost layer of copper oxide generally followed bg a layer of the double ox-ide Cu2 Cr2 O4 sometimes containing particles of unoxidized chromium surmunded bya chromia layer. An innermost layer of chromia was also observed in some *** metallic copper was al8o frequently mixed with chromia particles. No Cr de-pletion was observed in the alloy close to the inteffoce with the scale. In any case,this alloy was not able to form an exclusive continuous protective chromia layer. Thespecial cormsion behavior Of this alloy is typical of two-phase binary systems with alange solubility gaP in which the outwaof dthesion fiux of the most-reactive componentin the alloy is strongly reduced and may be inswncient to fOrm a protective externallayer of the cormsponding oxide. In paTticular, the presence of particles of Cr withina double oxide layer is very unusual and is allowed only for the kinetic reason.

Genetic variability in ultrasound records of breast muscle in a broiler breeding program

Breast weight is one of the most economically important traits in the poultry industry, but direct selection for weight is expensive. The use of ultrasonography enables in vivo measurements of the broiler’s breast muscle size, which may be much more feasible for broiler selection. Previous studies of broilers concluded that ultrasound of the breast muscle is feasible and favorable for meat production. According to previously obtained genetic parameters, breast weight could be efficiently improved by ultrasound of the breast muscle. The use of ultrasonography for the indirect selection of breast weight does not affect the body composition or meat quality of broilers, despite the meat’s paleness and shear force;therefore, the use of ultrasound as a selection criterion might be a useful monitoring tool. Studies on the utilization of ultrasound in broiler breeding programs allow a better understanding of the relationship between traits of economic interest and the establishment of the selection schemes.
