Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)occurs at a rate of 3-5%per year in patients with compensated cirrhosis,and itoften represents the first disease complication and themain cause of death in these patients(1).Surveillance forHCC is recommended by all liver disease associations,as it increases patient survival mainly as a result of earlydiagnosis of the tumour,allowing most patients to conveyto curative treatments(2,3).

Gastric cancer incidence is declining. However, it is too early to consider this neoplastic disease as rare and the worldwide mortality rate still remains high. Several risk factors have been identif ied for non-cardia gastric cancer and primary prevention is feasible since most of the risk factors can be removed. Helicobacter pylori eradication treatment reduces but does not abolish gastric cancer risk. Indeed, gastric cancer is a multifactorial disease and removing one factor does not therefore prevent all cases. Endoscopic surveillance is still needed, especially in subjects at higher risk. The def inition of high-risk patients will be the future challenge as well as identifying the best surveillance strategy for such patients.

The radioactive particle tracking technique was used to study the effect of internal ring baffles on wet agglomerate motion inside a cold flow recirculating fluidized bed. The study found that using such a baffle on its own or above the regular sheds helps reduce the fouling of the stripper section by increasing the residence time that the agglomerates spend above the baffle, thereby reducing the release of the vapors below the baffles that cause fouling of the sheds. Adding down-comers, or flux tubes, to the ring baffles degrades the performance of the baffles, Reducing the length of the flux tubes, so that they do not reach the bottom of the baffle lip results in a further degradation in baffle performance.

Parasitoid wasp communities of the canopy of temperate forests are still largely unexplored. Very little is known about the community composition ofparasitoids between canopy and understory and how much of this difference is related to forest structure or parasitoid biological strategies. In this study we investigated upon the difference in the community composition of the parasitic wasps Ichneumonidae between canopy and understory in a lowland temperate forest in northern Italy. We used general linear models to test whether parasitic strategy modifies species vertical stratification and the effect of forest structure. We also tested differences in β-diversity between canopy and understory traps and over time within single forest layers. We found that stand basal area was positively related to species richness, suggesting that the presence of mature trees can influence local wasp diversity, providing a higher number of microhabitats and hosts. The ichneumonid community of the canopy was different from that of the understory, and theβ-diversity analysis showed higher values for the canopy, due to a higher degree of species turnover between traps. In our analyses, the vertical stratification was different between groups of ichneumonids sharing different parasitic strategies. Idiobiont parasitoids of weakly or deeply concealed hosts were more diverse in the understory than in the canopy while parasitoids of spiders were equally distributed between the two layers. Even though the ichneumonid community was not particularly species-rich in the canopy of the temperate forests, the extension of sampling to that habitat significantly increased the number of species recorded.

Retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration （Amd） and diabetic retinopathy （DR） are the leading causes of blindness in adults over the age of 50 years in the US. While most of those conditions do not have a cure, currently available treatment options attempt to prevent further vision loss. For many ophthalmic drugs, an efficient delivery system to provide maximum therapeutic efficacy and promote patient compliance remains an unmet medical need. An exploration of literature via PubMed spanning from 2007 to 2017 was conducted to identify studies that have evaluated nanotechnology as platforms for delivering therapeutic agents to the posterior segment of the eye where the retina is located. Until now, four routes that have been utilized for retinal drug delivery are the intravitreal, periocular, subretinal, and systemic routes. Intravitreal injections are now widely used in clinical practice due to their ability to directly target the back of the eye but are highly invasive procedures that may cause several complications, particularly with repeated uses over a short timespan. Nanotechnology shows great promise to revolutionize retinal drug delivery, offering many advantages such as a targeted delivery system towards the specific site of the retina as well as sustained delivery of therapeutic agents. In this review, specific eye anatomy and constraints on ocular drug administration are illustrated. Further, we list and highlight several examples of nanosystems, such as hydrogels, liposomes, dendrimers, and micelles, used via different drug delivery routes to treat various retinal diseases.

Objective High-T eclogites from the North Dabie complex zone （NDZ）, central China underwent a complex metamorphic evolution involved in ultrahigh-pressure （UHP） and high- pressure eclogite-facies metamorphism, and subsequent granulite-facies overprinting and amphibolite-facies retrogression during the Mesozoic continental deep subduction and exhumation. As a consequence, the eclogites were strongly affected by multiple decompression and re-crystallization processes during exhumation. Some eclogites have even been wholly transformed to garnet granulite, or garnet amphibolite, or even garnet-absent amphibolite.

This paper presents an optimization methodology for the geometric configuration of a room–and–pillar mining project,considering safety and operational restrictions while maximizing ore *** underground manganese mine was chosen as a case study to investigate the capabilities of the presented methodology.A software package(OPTIMINE)was implemented to address the computational demand in an automated ***–dimensional finite difference analyses were performed in FLAC3D and used as implicit functions to consider safety in terms of the factor of safety and room *** obtained results showed that recovery could be increased from 44%to more than 80%in a safe manner.
