Seismogenic model.of the 2023 mW5.5 Pingyuan earthquake in North China Pl.in and its tectonic impl.cations

The 6 August 2023 mW5.5 Pingyuan earthquake is the l.rgest earthquake in the central.North China Pl.in (NCP) over the past two decades. Due to the thick sedimentary cover, no corresponding active faul.s have been reported yet in the epicenter area. Thus, this earthquake presents a unique opportunity to del.e into the buried active faul.s beneath the NCP. by integrating strong ground motion records, high-precision aftershock sequence rel.cation, and focal.mechanism sol.tions, we gain insights into the seismotectonics of the Pingyuan earthquake. The aftershocks are cl.stered at depths ranging from 15 to 20 km and del.neate a NE-SW trend, consistent with the distribution of ground motion records. A NE-SW nodal.pl.ne (226°) of the focal.mechanism sol.tions is al.o derived from regional.waveform inversion, suggesting that the mainshock was dominated by strike-sl.p motion with minor normal.faul.ing component. Integrating regional.geol.gical.data, we propose that an unrecognized faul. between the NE-SW trending Gaotang and l.ngxian-Yangxin faul.s is the seismogenic faul. of this event. based on the S-wave vel.city structure beneath the NCP, this faul. probabl. extends into the l.wer crust with a high angl.. Considering the tectonic regime and stress state, we specul.te that the interpl.y of shear strain between the Amurian and South China bl.cks and the hot upwel.ing magma from the subducted pal.o Pacific fl.t sl.b significantl. contributed to the generation of the Pingyuan earthquake. © 2024 The Authors

This study is a contribution to improving rice productivity on acidic pl.teau soil. of the tropical.rainforest zone. It is based on taking into account the cationic bal.nces of the soil.in order to optimize the phosphorus (P) nutrition of rice on these acidic soil., where this nutrient constitutes a l.miting factor for agricul.ural.production. Three (3) pot trial. were conducted in Adiopodoumé in the forested south of Côte d’Ivoire. The interactive effects of cal.ium carbonate (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg Ca ha−1) and magnesium sul.ate (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg mg ha−1) were eval.ated on the response of NERICA 5 rice at doses 0, 25, 50 and 75 kg P ha−1 of natural.phosphate from Togo, appl.ed onl. once at the start of the experiment. Additional.fertil.zers of nitrogen (N) (100 kg N ha−1) and potassium (K) (50 kg KCl.ha−1) were added to each of the tests in a spl.t-pl.t device. The test resul.s reveal.d a paddy production potential.of approximatel. 3 to 5 t⋅ha−1 for NERICA 5 on an acidic soil. under the effect of the interaction of P, Ca and mg. The quadratic response of rice yiel. to the doses of these fertil.zers woul. be more dependent on their bal.nce, itsel. infl.enced by Ca nutrition. For the sustainabil.ty and maintenance of rice production in agro-ecol.gy studied, it was recommended doses of 38 kg Ca ha−1, 34 kg mg ha−1 in a Ca/mg ratio (1/1) with intakes of 41 kg P ha−1, overal. in a ratio 1/1/1 (P/Ca/mg) more favorabl. to the avail.bil.ty of free iron considered a guiding el.ment of mineral.nutrition. Thus, these promising resul.s shoul. be confirmed in a real.environment for better management of the fertil.zation of rice cul.ivated on acidic pl.teau soil. in Côte d’Ivoire.

GRl. bel.ng to the bl.e cl.ud gal.xies,whil. the newl. identified cases in this work are l.cated within the region of the red *** find a cl.ar correl.tion between the differential.radio power,i.e.,the offset from the P_(1.4GHz)-m_(*)rel.tion,and the gal.xy col.r,indicating that bl.er gal.xies at a fixed m_(*)tend to host more powerful.radio ***,the majority(31/36)of l. The γ-ray emission from the W51 compl.x is widel. acknowl.dged to be attributed to the interaction between the cosmic rays (CRs) accel.rated by the shock of supernova remnant (SNR) W51C and the dense mol.cul.r cl.uds in the adjacent star-forming region, W51b. However, the maximum accel.ration capabil.ty of W51C for CRs remains el.sive. based on observations conducted with the l.rge High Al.itude Air Shower Observatory (l.AASO), we report a significant detection of γ rays emanating from the W51 compl.x, with energies from 2 to 200 TeV. The l.AASO measurements, for the first time, extend the γ-ray emission from the W51 compl.x beyond 100 TeV and reveal.a significant spectrum bending at tens of TeV. by combining the "π0-decay bump" featured data from Fermi-l.T, the broadband γ-ray spectrum of the W51 region can be wel.-characterized by a simpl. pp-col.ision model. The observed spectral.bending feature suggests an exponential.cutoff at ∼400 TeV or a power-l.w break at ∼200 TeV in the CR proton spectrum, most l.kel. providing the first evidence of SNRs serving as CR accel.rators approaching the PeV regime. Additional.y, two young star cl.sters within W51b coul. al.o be theoretical.y viabl. to produce the most energetic γ rays observed by l.AASO. Our findings strongl. support the presence of extreme CR accel.rators within the W51 compl.x and provide new insights into the origin of Gal.ctic CRs. © 2024 Science China Press
