Tissue innervation is a complex process controlled by the expression profile of signaling molecules secreted by tissue-resident cells that dictate the growth and guidance of *** innervation is part of the neuronal network of the bone tissue with a defined spatiotemporal occurrence during bone ***,the current understanding of the mechanisms regulating the map of sensory innervation in the bone tissue is still ***,we demonstrated that differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells to osteoblasts leads to a marked impairment of their ability to promote axonal growth,evidenced under sensory neurons and osteoblastic-lineage cells *** mechanisms by which osteoblast lineage cells provide this nonpermissive environment for axons include paracrine-induced repulsion and loss of neurotrophic factors *** identified a drastic reduction of NGF and BdNF production and stimulation of Sema3A,Wnt4;and Shh expression culminating at late stage of OB *** noted a correlation between Shh expression profile,OB differentiation stages,and OB-mediated axonal *** of Shh activity and signaling reversed the repulsive action of osteoblasts on sensory ***,to strengthen our model,we localized the expression of Shh by osteoblasts in bone ***,our findings provide evidence that the signaling profile associated with osteoblast phenotype differentiating program can regulate the patterning of sensory innervation,and highlight osteoblast-derived Shh as an essential player in this cue-induced regulation.

Immediate and late effects of chronic stress in the testes of prepubertal and adult rats

The obj.ctive of this study was to investigate the effects of chronic stress on the testes of prepubertal and adult rats and to evaluate whether any alterations could be reversed when stress induction is ended. Seventy-six male rats were assigned to eight groups depending on the type of treatment （control or stressed）, the age at which stress was initiated （prepubertal or adult）, and the time of evaluation （immediate or late）. Stress stimuli were applied for 6 weeks. Stressed prepubertal and adult rats evaluated immediately after the last stress stimulus were included in SP-I and SA-I groups, respectively. The late prepubertal （SP-L） and adult （SA-L） groups of stressed rats were evaluated 6 weeks after the last stress stimulus. Age-matched rats were used as controls （CP-I, CA-I, CP-L, and CA-L groups）. Application of stress stimuli to rats in the SP-I group resulted in body weight and seminiferous tubule diameter reduction. The rats in the SA-I group also showed several functional （testosterone level and sperm parameter） and morphological （testicular weight and seminiferous tubule diameter） reductions. The rats in the SP-L group showed increased body weight and intertubular compartment volumetric and absolute densities and reduced tubular compartment volumetric density. The rats in the SA-L group presented only reduced sperm viability. Stress stimuli promoted changes in the rats in all the study groups. The testes of the adult rats were the most affected by chronic stress. However, the stressed adult rats recovered well from the testicular alterations.

Parametric dirac delta to Simplify the Solution of Linear and Nonlinear Problems with an Impulsive Forcing Function

The Laplace transform is a very useful tool for the solution of problems involving an impulsive excitation, usually represented by the dirac delta, but it does not work in nonlinear problems. In contrast with this, the parametric representation of the dirac delta presented here works both in linear and nonlinear problems. Furthermore, the parametric representation converts the differential equation of a problem with an impulsive excitation into two equations: the first equation referring to the impulse instant (absent in the conventional solution) and the second equation referring to post-impulse time. The impulse instant equation contains fewer terms than the original equation and the impulse is represented by a constant, j.st as in the Laplace transform, the post-impulse equation is homogeneous. Thus, the solution of the parametric equations is considerably simpler than the solution of the original equation. The parametric solution, involving the equations of both the dependent and independent variables in terms of the parameter, is readily reconverted into the usual equation in terms of the dependent and independent variables only. This parametric representation may be taught at an earlier stage because the principle on which it is based is easily visualized geometrically and because it is only necessary to have a knowledge of elementary calculus to understand it and use it.

Cover Crop and Irrigation Effects on Soil Microbial Communities and Enzymes in Semiarid Agroecosystems of the Central Great Plains of North America

Cover crops can have beneficial effects on soil microbiology by increasing carbon （C） supply, but these beneficial effects can be modulated by precipitation conditions. The obj.ctive of this study was to compare a fallow-winter wheat （Triticum aestivum L.） rotation to several cover crop-winter wheat rotations under rainfed and irrigated conditions in the semiarid US High Plains. Experiments were carried out at two sites, Sidney in Nebraska, and Akron in Colorado, USA, with three times of soil sampling in 2012--2013 at cover crop termination, wheat planting, and wheat maturity. The experiments included four single-species cover crops, a 10-species mixture, and a fallow treatment. The variables measured were soil C and nitrogen （N）, soil community structure by fatty acid methyl ester （FAME） profiles, and soil β-glucosidase,β-glucosaminidase, and phosphodiesterase activities. The fallow treatment, devoid of living plants, reduced the concentrations of most FAMEs at cover crop termination. The total FAME concentration was correlated with cover crop biomass （R = 0.62 at Sidney and 0.44 at Akron）. By the time of wheat planting, there was a beneficial effect of irrigation, which caused an increase in myeorrhizal and protozoan markers. At wheat maturity, the cover crop and irrigation effects on soil FAMEs had subsided, but irrigation had a positive effect on the β-glucosidase and phosphodiesterase activities at Akron, which was the drier of the two sites. Cover crops and irrigation were slow to impact soil C concentration. Our results show that cover crops had a short-lived effect on soil microbial communities in semiarid wheat-based rotations and irrigation could enhance soil enzyme activity. In the semiarid environment, longer time spans may have been needed to see beneficial effects of cover crops on soil microbial community structure, soil enzyme activities, and soil C sequestration.

This work considers a special case of Lotka-Volterra equations, which means that in the system of two ordinary differential equations, we take the four parameters equal to one. The reason is that we want j.st to illustrate the procedure to reduce that system to only one ordinary differential equation, such that we know its analytical solution. This idea will be applied to study the relations between a system of three ordinary differential equations, and a couple of partial differential equations. Lotka-Volterra equations are solved numerically by a fourth-order predictor-corrector method, which is initialized by an improved Euler method with a rather small time step because it is only a second-order algorithm. Then, it is proposed a model with three species, defined by ordinary differential equations.

Plant peroxisomes have the capacity to gen erate different reactive oxygen and nitrogen species(ROS and RNS),such as H2O2,superoxide radical(O2^·-),nitric oxide and peroxynitrite(ONOO^-).These organelles have an active nitrooxidative metabolism which can be exacerbated by adverse stress *** sulfide(H2S)is a new signaling gasotransmitter which can mediate the posttranslational modification(PTM)*** used Arabidopsis thaliana transgenic seedlings expressing cyan fluorescent protein(CFP)fused to a canonical peroxisome targeting signal 1(PTS1)to visualize peroxisomes in living cells,as well as a specific fluorescent probe which showed that peroxisomes contain H2S.H2S was also detected in chloroplasts under glyphosate-induced oxidative stress *** enzyme activities,including catalase,photorespiratory H2O2-generating glycolate oxidase(GOX)and hydroxypyruvate reductase(HPR),were assayed in vitro with a H2S *** line with the persulfidation of this enzyme,catalase activity declined significantly in the presence of the H2S *** corroborate the inhibitory effect of H2S on catalase activity,we also assayed pure catalase from bovine liver and pepper fruit-enriched samples,in which catalase activity was *** together,these data provide evidenee of the presence of H2S in plant peroxisomes which appears to regulate catalase activity and,consequently,the peroxisomal H2O2 metabolism.

Biliary-colonic fistula caused by cholecystectomy bile duct inj.ry

Biliary-colonic fistula is a rare complication after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. We present a case of post-cholecystectomy iatrogenic biliary inj.ry that resulted in a fistula between the common hepatic duct and large bowel. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography provided good visualization of inj.ry even with concurrent normal level of alkaline phosphatase. Radiologic findings and surgical management of this condition are discussed in detail.

Numerical Simulation of a Batch-Type Reheating Furnace

A numerical analysis of a batch-type reheating furnace with and without thermal load was carried out using the Computational Fluid dynamics technique. The furnace has two premixed burners and methane is used as fuel. Previous to the numerical experiments, a mesh convergence test was carried out and the average internal furnace temperature and the exhaust gases temperature were monitored as function of the number of cells in the discretized system. The influence of the Air/Fuel ratio, the position of the burners, and the thermal load on the average internal temperature, the exhaust gases temperature, and the molar fraction of methane and oxygen in the exhaust gases was numerically explored.

dear Editor,One of the most serious issues in modern oncology is the ineffectiveness of treatments in destroying tumours,which leads to tumour recurrence and,ultimately,patient *** phenomenon is caused by conventional therapies’fractional killing of tumour cells,which can also cause resistant cells to spread.1 We analysed chemotherapy-resistant cells and discovered that they are smaller than untreated cells(Fig.1a).The fact that this phenomenon occurs in all tested cell types(Hela,A549,Huh7,and MCF7)and regardless of the chemotherapy regimen(TRAIL,Camptothecin,doxorubicin)suggests that it is a widespread phenomenon(Fig.1a,Supplementary Fig.S1).
