The recovery of lithium from hard rock minerals has received increased attention given the high demand for this element. There- fore, this study optimized an innovative process, which does not require a high-temperature calcination step, for lithium extraction from le- pidolite. Mechanical activation and acid digestion were suggested as crucial process parameters, and experimental design and re- sponse-surface methodology were applied to model and optimize the proposed lithium extraction process. The promoting effect of amorphi- zation and the formation of lithium sulfate hydrate on lithium extraction yield were assessed. several factor combinations led to extraction yields that exceeded 90%, indicating that the proposed process is an effective approach for lithium recovery.

Aims Addressing plant responses to water stress is critical to understand the structure of plant communities in water-limited environments and to forecast their resilience to future changes in *** a semiarid agroforestry system in the sahelian savannah of Leona(senegal),we selected nine common tree species and explored their stress-resistance *** species represent a variety of life forms and are of high regional socio-economic *** hypothesized that different species would show different suites of traits to cope with water stress and expected to identify functional groups differing in strategies to withstand water *** Along a dry and a wet season,we monitored four traits reflecting above-and below-ground strategies of resource acquisition such as predawn leaf water potential(ψpd),specific leaf area(sLA),leaf thickness and leaf area index(LAI).We also measured two mor-phological traits:trunk diameter and tree *** andψpd were measured six times during the dry and rainy seasons,and the other traits were measured *** Findings We identified two functional classes subdivided into two func-tional groups of each *** first class included deciduous and semi-deciduous species that generally had large sLA,low leaf thickness and small-to-intermediate inter-seasonal varia-tions inψ*** second class included evergreen species of two functional groups that differ in sLA,leaf thickness and the mag-nitude of inter-seasonal variations ofψpd throughout the *** four functional groups identified in this study represent plant strategies differing in their response to changing environmental conditions.

In this paper we describe a new pseudo-spectral method to solve numerically two and three-dimensional nonlinear diffusion equations over unbounded domains,taking Hermite functions,sinc functions,and rational Chebyshev polynomials as basis *** idea is to discretize the equations by means of differentiation matrices and to relate them to sylvester-type equations by means of a fourth-order implicit-explicit scheme,being of particular interest the treatment of three-dimensional sylvester equations that we *** resulting method is easy to understand and express,and can be implemented in a transparent way by means of a few lines of *** test numerically the three choices of basis functions,showing the convenience of this new approach,especially when rational Chebyshev polynomials are considered.

Treatment planning in external beam radiation therapy （EBRT） utilizes dose volume histograms （DVHs） as optimization and evaluation tools. They present the fraction of planning target volume （PTV） receiving more than a given absorbed dose, against the absorbed dose values, and a number of radiobiological indices can be computed with their help. Equivalent uniform dose （EUD） is the absorbed dose that, uniformly imparted, would yield the same biological effect on a tumor as the dose distribution described by the DVH. Uncertainty and missing information can affect the dose distribution, therefore DVHs can be modeled as samples from a set of possible outcomes. This work studies the sensitivity of the EUD index when a small change in absorbed dose distribution takes place. EUD is treated as a functional on the set of DVHs. Defining a Levy distance on this set and using a suitable expansion of the functional, a very simple expression for a bound on the variation of EUD when the dose distribution changes is found. This bound is easily interpreted in terms of standard treatment planning practice.

Water transport through subnanopores in the ultimate size limit: Mechanism from molecular dynamics

Ab initio and classical molecular dynamics simulations show that water can flow through graphdiyne—an experimentally fabricated graphene-like membrane with highly dense (2.4 × 10^18 pores/m^2), uniformly ordered, subnanometer pores (incircle diameter 0.57 nm and van der Waals area 0.06 nm^2). Water transports through subnanopores via a chemical-reaction-like activated process. The activated water flow can be precisely controlled through fine adjustment of working temperature and pressure. In contrast to a linear dependence on pressure for conventional membranes, here pressure directly modulates the activation energy, leading to a nonlinear water flow as a function of pressure. Consequently, high flux (1.6 L/Day/cm^2/MPa) with 100% salt rejection efficiency is achieved at reasonable temperatures and pressures, suggesting graphdiyne can serve as an excellent membrane for water desalination. We further show that to get through subnanopores water molecule must break redundant hydrogen bonds to form a two-hydrogen-bond transient structure. Our study unveils the principles and atomistic mechanism for water transport through pores in ultimate size limit, and offers new insights on water permeation through nanochannels, design of molecule sieving and nanofluidic manipulation.

This study investigates the technique of variational calculus applied to estimate the slope stability considering the mechanism of planar *** critical plane failure surface should be determined because it theoretically indicates the most unfavorable plane to be considered when stabilizing a slope to rectify the instability generated by several statistically possible *** generates integrals that can be solved by numerical methods,such as the Newton Cotes and the finite differences ***,a system of nonlinear equations is obtained and *** surface of the critical planar failure is determined by applying the condition of transversality in mobile boundaries,for which various examples are *** number of slices is varied in one of the examples,while the surface of the critical planar failure is determined in the *** are compared using analytical methods through axis *** the results obtained by considering normal stress,safety factors,and critical planar failure are nearly the same;however,in this research,a study is carried out for“n”number of slices using programming ***-routines are important because they can be applied in slopes with different geometry,surcharge,interstitial pressure,and pseudo-static load.

Extracellular vesicles(EVs) are membrane-derived vesicles which can be released by different cell types, including hepatocytes, hepatic stellate cells and immune cells in normal and pathological conditions. EVs carry lipids, proteins, coding and non-coding RNAs and mitochondrial DNA causing modifications on the recipient cells. These vesicles are considered potential biomarkers and therapeutic agents for human diagnostic and prognostic due to their function as intercellular mediators of cell-cell communication within the liver and between other organs. However, the development and optimization of methods for EVs isolation is required to characterize their biological functions as well as their potential as a treatment option in the clinic. Nevertheless, many questions remain unanswered related to the function of EVs under physiological and pathological conditions. In the current editorial, the results obtained in different studies that investigated the role of intrahepatic EVs during liver diseases, including drug-induced liver injury, non-alcoholic fatty liver, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, alcoholic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma and extrahepatic EVs in remote organs during pathological events such as pulmonary disease, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders e.g., Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis as well as in immunopathological processes, are discussed. Although much light needs to be shed on the mechanisms of EVs, these membranederived vesicles represent both a novel promising diagnostic, and a therapeutic tool for clinical use that we emphasize in the current editorial.

Biliary-colonic fistula is a rare complication after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. We present a case of post-cholecystectomy iatrogenic biliary injury that resulted in a fistula between the common hepatic duct and large bowel. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography provided good visualization of injury even with concurrent normal level of alkaline phosphatase. Radiologic findings and surgical management of this condition are discussed in detail.

G protein-coupled receptor 37 (GPR37), also known as parkin associated endothelin-like (Pael) receptor, is an orphan G protein- coupled receptor, which suffers a defective parking ubiquitination in autosomal recessive Parkinson’s disease promoting its endoplasmic reticulum aggregation and stress, neurotoxicity and neuronal death (Takahashi and Imai, 2003). Interestingly, we have demonstrated previously that GPR37 heteromerizes with adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) in the striatum (Morato et al., 2017;sokolina et al., 2017).
