Anxiety-Behavior Modulated by Ventral Medial Prefrontal Cortex of Rats submitted to the Vogel Conflict Test Involves a Local NMDA Receptor and Nitric Oxide

It was demonstrated in the Vogel conflict test (VCT) that the ventral portion of medial prefrontal cortex (vMPFC) of rats is involved with anxiety behavior. Moreover, the vMPFC local glutamatergic and nitrergic system interaction is involved in modulation of fear conditioning, a model of anxiety. To better understand the role of the MPFC-glutamatergic and nitrergic system on the VTC behavior response, male Wistar rats (250 g) were water deprived for 48 h before the VCT. After 24 h of water deprivation, they were subjected to an initial 3-min non-punished (pre-test) drinking session. Twenty-four hours later bilateral microinjections of NMDA-antagonist LY235959 (4 nmol/200 nL), the specific nNOs inhibitor N-Propyl-L-arginine (N-Propyl –0.08 nmol/200 nL), the NO scavenger Carboxi-PTIO (C-PTIO, 2 nmol/200 nL) or 200nL of vehicle were applied in the vMPFC. After 10 min, the animals were submitted to 3-min punished-licking session. LY235959 increased the number of punished licks. similar to LY235959, both N-Propyl and C-PTIO also increased the number of punished licks. No changes were observed when LY235959, N-Propyl and C-PTIO were micro- injected into vMPFC surrounding structures such as the cingulate cortex area 1, the corpus callosum and the tenia tecta. In control experiments these drugs did not change neither the number of unpunished licks nor had any effect in the tail-flick test. The results show that NO signaling in the vMPFC can modulate anxiety-behavior in the VCT by control punished behavior. Moreover, this NO modulation could be associated with local glutamatergic activation through NMDA receptors.

The present work analyzes the monotypic Taenidium barretti ichnofabric developed in abandoned channels and floodplains to understand its paleoecological significance in highly seasonal fluvial *** data come from the Cretaceous paleosols of the Marília Formation(Bauru Basin,sE Brazil),in which the *** ichnofabric and rhizoliths represent the biotic *** larvae are considered to be the most likely *** tracemakers in these *** intensity and recurrence of bioturbation suggest that the windows of opportunity for beetle population growth were very short and controlled by the progressive substrate desiccation after flood *** characteristics of the trace fossil assemblage suggest soil colonization by r-strategic organisms triggered by flooding events that provided the resource inputs necessary for their living during rainy *** results also show that in fluvial systems with high discharge variations,the boundaries between a“pre-desiccation suite”and a“desiccation suite”in the scoyenia ichnofacies can be diffuse due to the short duration of colonization windows and progressive terrestrialization of floodplains and ***,the frequency of flooding events,the lowered water table,and the rapidity of substrate desiccation constrained colonization by other burrowers and may be considered as firstorder factors controlling the generation of a monotypic *** ***,the monotypic Taenidium ichnofabric in the scoyenia ichnofacies context is an ichnomarker of brief windows for colonization in highly seasonal environments.

A Proposal for the Automatic Computation of Envelopes of Families of Plane Curves

The idea of envelope of a family of plane curves is an elementary notion in differential geometry. As such, its implementation in dynamic geometry environments is quite universal(Cabri,The Geometer's sketchpad, Cinderella, Geo Gebra,...). Nevertheless, most of these programs return,when computing certain envelopes, both some spurious solutions and the curves that truly ?t in the intuitive de?nition of envelope. The precise distinction between spurious and genuine parts has not been made before: This paper proposes such distinction in an algorithmic way, ready for its implementation in interactive geometry systems, allowing a ?ner classi?cation of the different parts resulting from the current, advanced approach to envelope computation and, thus, yielding a more precise output, free from extraneous components.

Green ionic metal-organic frameworks as nanocatalysts for CO_(2)fixation

Co,Ni,and Zn iso-reticular coordination polymers of 2,5-dihydroxyterphthalic acid(H_(2)dot)can be rapidly obtained under room temperature and aqueous conditions using either sodium or ammonium hydroxide as the bases to deprotonate the *** use of metal bromides and tetrabutylammonium hydroxide(TBAOH)as the base allows the green synthesis of ionic metal-organic frameworks(MOFs),characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),scanning electron microscopy(sEM),thermo gravimetric analysis(TGA),H-nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR),elemental analysis,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPs),and employed in the pressure,solvent,and additive-free CO_(2)fixation to epoxides by its cycloaddition to epichlorohydrin,exhibiting a cooperative behavior between the MOF and the ionic liquid formed within the framework,achieving TONs of the confined tetrabutylammonium bromide(TBABr)up to 700.

Do supplemental perches influence electrocution risk for diurnal raptors?

Members of the Torpedinidae(torpedoes)and Hypnidae(coffin ray)use electric organ discharges(EOD)to stun or kill their prey before *** investigated whether EOD could also negatively affect the helminth larvae infecting these preys through a surrogate model:we applied electric discharges to individuals of blue whiting,Micromesistius poutassou,that harbored live larvae of *** mortality throughout a 6-h period was significantly higher in the treatment group,suggesting that EODs could significantly hamper helminth *** then tested whether torpedinids and hypnids(“strong-EOD”families)harbored species-poor helminth(cestode)assemblages compared with“weak-EOD”Torpediniformes(Narcidae and Narkidae)and other *** on comparisons on estimated species diversity and mean species richness of tapeworms at host individual level we found that(i)Torpediniformes had the lowest tapeworm diversity of all Batoidea orders;(ii)Torpedo *** had the lowest mean cestode richness at host individual level,and this could not be related to other host factors influencing cestode diversity in chondrichthyans,that is body size,trophic level or dietary ***,a preliminary comparison between“strong-EOD”and“weak-EOD”Torpediniformes did not detect clear differences of cestode ***,evidence supporting an unambiguous contribution of EODs to depauperate cestode assemblages requires further research.

searching for the earliest galaxies in the 21cm forest

We use a model developed by Xu,Ferrara,and Chen(Mon Not Roy Astron soc,submitted) to compute the 21 cm line absorption signatures imprinted by star-forming dwarf galaxies(DGs) and starless minihalos(MHs). The method,based on a statistical comparison of the equivalent width(W ν ) distribution and flux correlation function,allows us to derive a simple selection criteria for candidate DGs at very high(z ≤ 8) redshift. We find that ≈18% of the total number of DGs along a line of sight to a target radio source(GRB or quasar) can be identified by the condition W νse objects correspond to the high-mass tail of the DG distribution at high redshift,and are embedded in large HII regions. The criterion W ν>0.37 kHz instead selects ≈11% of MHs. selected candidate DGs could later be re-observed in the near-IR by the JWsT with high efficiency,thus providing a direct probe of the most likely reionization sources.

The use of systems theory to attempt to determine which ＂place in La Mancha＂ was the one whose name Cervantes could not quite recall in his universal novel, appears to be ordained to change certain attitudes towards science held in Cervanfine literature. The reason： after four centuries of literary analysis, systemic methodology has proven able to identify the famous ＂place＂ with acceptable accuracy. Nonetheless, certain reasonable doubts persist around the suitability of a strictly scientific analysis of literature. In light of those doubts, the present article aims primarily to facilitate critique both of the systemic approach adopted and its outcome.
