Post-transcriptional regulation of seed dormancy and germination: Current understanding and future directions

Seed dormancy is a developmental checkpoint that prevents mature seeds from germinating under conditions that are otherwise favorable for *** and light are themost relevant environmental factors that regulate seed dormancy and *** environmental cues can trigger molecular and physiological responses including hormone signaling,particularly that of abscisic acid and *** balance between the content and sensitivity of these hormones is the key to the regulation of seed *** and light tightly regulate the transcription of thousands of genes,as well as other aspects of gene expression such asmRnAsplicing,translation,and *** remodeling determines specific transcriptional outputs,and alternative splicing leads to different outcomes and produces transcripts that encode proteins with altered or lost *** regulation of chromatin remodeling and alternative splicing may be highly relevant to seed ***,microRnAs are also critical for the control of gene expression in *** review aims to discuss recent updates on post-transcriptional regulation during seed maturation,dormancy,germination,and post-germination *** propose future prospects for understanding howdifferent post-transcriptional processes in crop seeds can contribute to the design of genotypes with better performance and higher productivity.

Members of the Torpedinidae(torpedoes)and Hypnidae(coffin ray)use electric organ discharges(EOD)to stun or kill their prey before *** investigated whether EOD could also negatively affect the helminth larvae infecting these preys through a surrogate model:we applied electric discharges to individuals of blue whiting,Micromesistius poutassou,that harbored live larvae of *** mortality throughout a 6-h period was significantly higher in the treatment group,suggesting that EODs could significantly hamper helminth *** then tested whether torpedinids and hypnids(“strong-EOD”families)harbored species-poor helminth(cestode)assemblages compared with“weak-EOD”Torpediniformes(narcidae and narkidae)and other *** on comparisons on estimated species diversity and mean species richness of tapeworms at host individual level we found that(i)Torpediniformes had the lowest tapeworm diversity of all Batoidea orders;(ii)Torpedo *** had the lowest mean cestode richness at host individual level,and this could not be related to other host factors influencing cestode diversity in chondrichthyans,that is body size,trophic level or dietary ***,a preliminary comparison between“strong-EOD”and“weak-EOD”Torpediniformes did not detect clear differences of cestode ***,evidence supporting an unambiguous contribution of EODs to depauperate cestode assemblages requires further research.

Suppose rn orbit of the Rn-action of transverse dimensionn be arbitrarily approached by foliations with rank≥r+1. Moreover weshow that this kind of orbits exists in the following three cases: if F is Riemannian ;when all itsleaves are closed or if X(M)≠0(then r=0).On the other hand all foliate Rn-action on (S3,F) has a fixed leaf if dimF=*** result generalies a well known Lima's theorem about Rn-actions on surfaces.

2-Cys Peroxiredoxins Participate in the Oxidation of Chloroplast Enzymes in the Dark

Most redox-regulated chloroplast enzymes are reduced during the day and oxidized during the *** the reduction mechanism of light-dependent enzymes is well known,the mechanism mediating their oxidation in the dark remains *** thiol-dependent peroxidases,2-Cys peroxiredoxins (Prxs),play a key role in light-dependent reduction of chloroplast *** transfer reducing equivalents of thiols to hydrogen peroxide,suggesting the participation of these peroxidases in enzyme oxidation in the ***,we have addressed this issue by analyzing the redox state of well-known redox-regulated chloroplast enzymes in response to darkness in Arabidopsis thaliana mutants deficient in chloroplastlocalized Prxs (2-Cys Prxs A and B,Prx ⅡE,and Prx Q).Mutant plants lacking 2-Cys Prxs A and B,and plants overexpressing nADPH-dependent thioredoxin (Trx) reductase C showed delayed oxidation of chloroplast enzymes in the *** contrast,the deficiencies of Prx ⅡE or Prx Q exerted no *** vitro assays allowed the reconstitution of the pathway of reducing equivalents from reduced fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase to hydrogen peroxide mediated by Trxs and 2-Cys *** together,these results suggest that 2-Cys Prxs participate in the short-term oxidation of chloroplast enzymes in the dark.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: a complex syndrome that needs an integrated research approach

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the most common neurodegenerative disease affecting motor neurons, lacks an effective treatment. A small fraction of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis cases have a familial origin, related to mutations in causative genes, while the vast majority of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis cases are considered to be sporadic, resulting from the interaction between genes and environmental factors in predisposed individuals. During the past few years, dozens of drugs have been postulated as promising strategies for the disease after showing some beneficial effects in preclinical cellular and murine models. However, the translation into clinical practice has been largely unsuccessful and the compounds failed when were tested in clinical trials. This might be explained, at least partially, by the enormous complexity of the disease both from clinico-epidemiological and a pathogenic points of view. In this review, we will briefly comment on the complexity of the disease focusing on some recent findings, and we will suggest how amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research might be reoriented to foster the advance in the diagnostic and therapeutic questions.

Choosing the most appropriate rootstock(s)is a key decision for the profitability of vineyards;therefore,there must be a sufficient range of rootstocks in the market adapted to different environmental conditions and production ***,rootstock-breeding programs have been scarce in recent decades,and most of the rootstocks used today were bred a century ago,when the needs of the sector were very different from *** this work,we aimed to evaluate new rootstock candidates before their introduction in the *** agronomic evaluation was conducted on eight novel rootstock genotypes obtained from the first generation of the cross-pollination of 41 B Millardet et de Grasset(41 B)and 110 Richter(110 R)grafted with‘Syrah’and‘Tempranillo’and planted in a typical vineyard of the Ebro Valley in *** the four consecutive growing seasons(2016–2019),growth,yield and berry composition parameters at harvest were collected.A linear mixed-effects model was constructed,considering year and block as random *** factor analysis and hierarchical clustering on principal components were performed to establish clusters of genotypes with similar *** rootstock candidates showed a very wide performance range compared to their *** trial allowed us to identify two very promising candidates(RG8 and RG10),whose registration as commercial rootstocks is already in progress.

nADPH Thioredoxin Reductase C Is Involved in Redox Regulation of the Mg-Chelatase I Subunit in Arabidopsis thaliana Chloroplasts

Dear Editor, The synthesis of tetrapyrroles, including chlorophylls, is central for chloroplast function. The metabolic pathway of tetrapyrrole biosynthesis in Arabidopsis is initiated with the formation of amino levulinic acid （ALA）, which is con- verted by a series of common reactions to protoporphy- tin IX （Proto IX）（Tanaka et al., 2011）. Then the pathway diverges into two branches： the synthesis of heme/bilin and chlorophylls. The insertion of Mg2＋ into Proto IX, cata- lyzed by Mg-chelatase, is the first committed reaction of the chlorophyll branch and is considered a key step for the regulation of the whole pathway. Mg-chelatase is a het- erotrimeric enzyme composed of subunits CHLI, CHLD, and CHLH, the reaction mechanism of which has been estab- lished. It is a two-step process consisting in the Mg-ATP- dependent activation of the enzyme, which implies the formation of a ternary complex of subunits CHLI and CHLD with ATP-Mg2＋, and Mg2＋ chelation, which is catalyzed by CHLH driven by ATP hydrolysis, CHLI providing ATPase activity to the complex （Tanaka et al., 2011）. In Arabidopsis, CHLH and CHLD are encoded by single genes, whereas two genes, CHLI-I and CHLI-2, encode the two isoforms of CHLI.

Testing the effectiveness of conservation management within biosphere reserves:the case of the Mexican deer mouse(Peromyscus mexicanus)as a bioindicator

Biosphere reserves are protected areas whose purpose is to combine conservation and sustainable ***,their effectiveness has not been tested sufficiently,especially from an ecological and genetic ap*** this sense,the Peromyscus genus represents an excellent bioindicator to address these questions,due to its short life and high evolutionary rate and *** conservation managers,genetic structure can increase the rate of loss of genetic diversity because alleles exclusive of a subpopulation are more likely to disappear as a consequence of genetic drift in comparison with a panmictic *** we analyzed the abundance,movement distances,morphology/morphometry and genetic structure of 3 populations of Mexican deer mouse(Peromyscus mexicanus)located in different protected zones of La Tigra national Park(Honduras).Our results are consistent among the 3 approaches and showed the highest values of abundance,morphometry and genetic diversity in the population located at the core zone,whereas non-statistically significant differences were found between buffer and transition zone populations,suggesting suitable effectiveness of conservation management in the core zone but a lack of ecological buffering function of the other *** addition,the low movement distances and high genetic structure among the studied populations provide evidence of poor conservation management in the buffer and transition ***,we discuss the utility of the novel methodology used in this work,combining morphometry,abundance and genetics,in testing the effectiveness of conservation strategies in biosphere reserves,and the value of the Peromyscus genus as a bioindicator.
