Healthcare staff as promoters of parental presence at anesthetic induction:Net Promoter Score survey

BACKGROUND Surgical intervention is usually a traumatic event that causes stress and anxiety in the pediatric patient and the family environment.To reduce the harmful effects of presurgical anxiety,parental presence during induction of anesthesia(PPIA)is one of the more notable interventions used in medical centers.However,data on this measure are difficult to evaluate and often face resistance from healthcare staff.AIM To analyze the perception of the healthcare workers after the implementation of a PPIA program.METHODS A survey was developed and sent by email to all the healthcare staff working in the children’s area of a tertiary hospital.It consisted of 14 items divided into positive aspects of PPIA and negative aspects of PPIA evaluated with the use of a Likert scale(1 to 5).The demographics of the respondents were included in the data collected.The answers to the questions were interpreted through the Net Promoter Score(NPS).The statistical analysis compared the differences in the responses to each question of the survey made by the different groups of health personnel included.RESULTS A total of 141 surveys were sent out,with a response rate of 69%.Of the total number of responses,68%were from women and 32%from men.The average age of the participants was 42.3±10.6 years.As for the positive questions about the PPIA,83%had an NPS>50,and only one had a score between 0 and 50,which means that the quality of the service was rated as excellent or good by 100%of the respondents.On the other hand,100%of the negative questions about the PPIA had a negative NPS.Responses to the question“PPIA increases patient safety”were significantly different(P=0.037),with a lower percentage of pediatric surgeons(70%)thinking that PPIA increased patient safety,compared with anesthesiologists(90%),nursing(92%),and other medical personnel(96%).CONCLUSION The personnel who participated in the PPIA program at our center were in favor of implementation.There were no validated arguments to support worker resistance to the development of

The brain is,after the adipose tissue,the organ with the greatest amount of lipids and diversity in their composition in the human body.In neurons,lipids are involved in signaling pathways controlling autophagy,a lysosome-dependent catabolic process essential for the maintenance of neuronal homeostasis and the function of the primary cilium,a cellular antenna that acts as a communication hub that transfers extracellular signals into intracellular responses required for neurogenesis and brain development.A crosstalk between primary cilia and autophagy has been established;however,its role in the control of neuronal activity and homeostasis is barely known.In this review,we briefly discuss the current knowledge regarding the role of autophagy and the primary cilium in neurons.Then we review the recent literature about specific lipid subclasses in the regulation of autophagy,in the control of primary cilium structure and its dependent cellular signaling in physiological and pathological conditions,specifically focusing on neurons,an area of research that could have major implications in neurodevelopment,energy homeostasis,and neurodegeneration.

Diplopoda in the world fossil record

We present a comprehensive catalog with an updated database of the fossil record of Diplopoda in the world. Taxonomic data was collected from descriptions and reports published from 1854 to the present. We also include new records from Mexican amber(Upper Oligocene-Lower Miocene), counting 83 unknown fossil inclusions, with the first records of the orders Polyxenida, Platydesmida, and Julida, as well as the families Sphaeriodesmidae and Trichopolydesmidae within Polydesmida. According to our results, Diplopoda counts 413 records featuring 299 distinct taxa ranging from the Middle Silurian to the Upper Pleistocene, representing three subclasses, two subterclasses, six superorders, 25 orders, 15 superfamilies, 55 families, 93 genera, and 161 fossil species. To date, no fossils of the order Siphonocryptida have been reported. The fossil record extends over three geological eras: the Paleozoic, with 161 taxa, including 97 species; the Mesozoic, with 53 taxa and 22 species; and the Cenozoic, with 85 taxa and 42 species. The referred material shows different forms of fossil preservation. It comprises 123 impressions, 99 compressions, 26 ichnites, predominantly from Paleozoic and Mesozoic sediments, and 165 amber inclusions from late Mesozoic and Cenozoic sites. Thus, this catalog allows us to estimate the size and taxonomic composition of Diplopoda in the fossil record worldwide.

Influenza pandemics are unpredictable recurrent events with global health,economic,and social consequences.The objective of this review is to provide an update on the latest developments in early diagnosis and specific treatment of the disease and its complications,particularly with regard to respiratory organ failure.Despite advances in treatment,the rate of mortality in the intensive care unit remains approximately 30%.Therefore,early identification of potentially severe viral pneumonia is extremely important to optimize treatment in these patients.The pathogenesis of influenza virus infection depends on viral virulence and host response.Thus,in some patients,it is associated with an excessive systemic response mediated by an authentic cytokine storm.This process leads to severe primary pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome.Initial prognostication in the emergency department based on comorbidities,vital signs,and biomarkers(e.g.,procalcitonin,ferritin,human leukocyte antigen-DR,mid-regional proadrenomedullin,and lactate)is important.Identification of these biomarkers on admission may facilitate clinical decision-making to determine early admission to the hospital or the intensive care unit.These decisions are reached considering pathophysiological circumstances that are associated with a poor prognosis(e.g.,bacterial co-infection,hyperinflammation,immune paralysis,severe endothelial damage,organ dysfunction,and septic shock).Moreover,early implementation is important to increase treatment efficacy.Based on a limited level of evidence,all current guidelines recommend using oseltamivir in this setting.The possibility of drug resistance should also be considered.Alternative options include other antiviral drugs and combination therapies with monoclonal antibodies.Importantly,it is not recommended to use corticosteroids in the initial treatment of these patients.Furthermore,the implementation of supportive measures for respiratory failure is essential.Current recommendations are limited,heterogeneous,an

Existence of Supercritical Hopf Bifurcation on a Type-Lorenz System

In this paper, a system of Lorenz-type ordinary differential equations is considered and, under some assumptions about the parameter space, the presence of the supercritical non-degenerate Hopf bifurcation is demonstrated. The technical tool used consists of the Central Manifold theorem, a well-known formula to calculate the Lyapunov coefficient and Hopf’s Theorem. For particular values of the parameters in the parameter space established in the main result of this work, a graph is presented that describes the evolution of the trajectories, obtained by means of numerical simulation.

Assessing above-ground biomass-functional diversity relationships in temperate forests in northern Mexico

Background:Studies on the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem productivity have suggested that species richness and functional diversity are the main drivers of ecosystem processes.Several patterns on this relationship have been found,including positive,unimodal,negative,and neutral trends,keeping the issue controversial.In this study,taxonomic diversity and functional diversity as drivers of above-ground biomass(AGB)were compared,and the mechanisms that influence biomass production were investigated by testing the complementarity and the mass-ratio hypotheses.Methods:Using data from 414 permanent sample plots,covering 23%of temperate forest in the Sierra Madre Oriental(México),we estimated the above-gound biomass(AGB),taxonomic and functional diversity indices,as well as community weighted mean values(CWM)for three functional traits(maximum height,leaf size and wood density)for trees≥7.5 cm DBH,in managed and unmanaged stands.To compare taxonomic diversity differences between managed and unmanaged stands we carried out a rarefaction analysis.Furthermore,we evaluated the relationship between AGB and taxonomic and functional diversity metrics,as well as CWM traits throught spatial autoregressive models.Results:We found a hump-shaped relationship between AGB and species richness in managed and unmanaged forests.CMW of maximum height was the most important predictor of AGB in both stands,which suggested that the mechanism underlaying the AGB-diversity relationship is the dominance of some highly productive species,supporting the mass-ratio hypothesis.Above-ground biomass was significantly correlated with three of the five functional diversity metrics,CWM maximum height and species richness.Our results show the importance of taking into account spatial autocorrelation in the construction of predictive models to avoid spurious patterns in the AGBdiversity relationship.Conclusion:Species richness,maximum height,functional richness,functional dispersion and RaoQ indices relate with above-ground biomass produ

The tomato(Solanum lycopersicum L.)is one of the world’s most important vegetable crops.Still,phytopathogenic bacteria affect the yield and quality of tomato cultivation,like Agrobacterium tumefeciens(At),Clavibacter michiganensis subsp.michiganensis(Cmm),Pseudomonas syringae pv.tomato(Pst),Ralstonia solanacearum(Rs),and Xanthomonas axonopodis(Xa).Synthetic chemical products are used mostly on disease plant control,but overuse generates resistance to bacterial control.This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of Moringa oleifera Lam.leaves against At,Cmm,Pst,Rs,and Xa,as well as information about this plant species’chemical composition.Antibacterial activity against pathogens observed by microplate technique,phytochemical screening,and FTIR analysis revealed different bio-active compounds on ethanolic extracts with antibacterial activity.The growth inhibition rate ranged between 0.08%and 99.94%.The inhibitory concentration,IC50,required to inhibit 50%of At,Cmm,Pst,Rs,and Xa bacterial growth,was 276.67,350.48,277.85,351.49,and 283.22 mg/L,respectively.Inhibition of phytopathogen bacteria’s growth increased as the concentrations of the extract also increased.Moringa oleifera extract can be recommended as a potent bio-bactericide.

Microstructure and Properties Characterization of WC-Co-Cr Thermal Spray Coatings

WC-Co-Cr coatings are widely employed due to their improved wear resistance and mechanical properties, however, the properties and performance of these coatings are compromised by the processing parameters of each spraying technique. Therefore, this study is aimed to evaluate and determine the effect of the deposition parameters on the properties and microstructural characteristics of WC-Co-Cr coatings using a more economical thermal spray technique. In particular, the influence of flame spray parameters on the microstructure, crystal structure, hardness, and sliding wear resistance of WC- Co-Cr coatings was examined. Two parameters were considered: Type of flame (reducing, neutral and oxidizing), and the spray torch nozzle exit area. Results indicated that WC particles undergo considerable degree of decarburization and dissolution during spraying, showing substantial amounts of W2C, W, and Co3W3C, for all the considered conditions. However, the extent of phase transformation depended largely on the flame chemistry. The microstructure of the coatings was mainly affected by the spray nozzle. Regarding the sliding wear behavior, the coatings with uniform distribution of hard particles provided the best wear resistance. The decomposition of WC into W2C phase seems to have meaningless significance in the mass loss, nevertheless, the WC phase transformation to metallic tungsten and η-phase (Co3W3C) produce higher wear rates due to deficiency of carbide particles and embrittlement of the binder phase which induces cracking and delamination of the splats.

Personality Trait Detection via Transfer Learning

Personality recognition plays a pivotal role when developing user-centric solutions such as recommender systems or decision support systems across various domains,including education,e-commerce,or human resources.Tra-ditional machine learning techniques have been broadly employed for personality trait identification;nevertheless,the development of new technologies based on deep learning has led to new opportunities to improve their performance.This study focuses on the capabilities of pre-trained language models such as BERT,RoBERTa,ALBERT,ELECTRA,ERNIE,or XLNet,to deal with the task of personality recognition.These models are able to capture structural features from textual content and comprehend a multitude of language facets and complex features such as hierarchical relationships or long-term dependencies.This makes them suitable to classify multi-label personality traits from reviews while mitigating computational costs.The focus of this approach centers on developing an architecture based on different layers able to capture the semantic context and structural features from texts.Moreover,it is able to fine-tune the previous models using the MyPersonality dataset,which comprises 9,917 status updates contributed by 250 Facebook users.These status updates are categorized according to the well-known Big Five personality model,setting the stage for a comprehensive exploration of personality traits.To test the proposal,a set of experiments have been performed using different metrics such as the exact match ratio,hamming loss,zero-one-loss,precision,recall,F1-score,and weighted averages.The results reveal ERNIE is the top-performing model,achieving an exact match ratio of 72.32%,an accuracy rate of 87.17%,and 84.41%of F1-score.The findings demonstrate that the tested models substantially outperform other state-of-the-art studies,enhancing the accuracy by at least 3%and confirming them as powerful tools for personality recognition.These findings represent substantial advancements in personality recognition,making th

Social networks of reintroduced Przewalski's horses in the Great Gobi B Strictly Protected Area (Mongolia)

Analyzing social networks is a powerful tool for understanding the ecology of social species.While most studies focus on the role of each group member,few compare groups with different characteristics.The current population of Przewalski's horses Equus ferus przewalskii at the Great Gobi B Strictly Protected Area(Mongolia)includes groups of wild-born and captive-bred individuals with different experiences with the area(acclimatizing,long-term reintroduced,and wild-born),therefore serving as an ideal natural behavioral lab.We filmed 11 groups for 141.5 hours in summer 2018(July),late spring 2019(May,June),and autumn 2019(September,October).Affiliative and agonistic interactions were recorded,and social networks were created.We tested the influence of origin,experience,season,sex,age,relative time belonging to the group,relat-edness,and dominance rank on different network indices at the individual and group levels.We found that groups with greater experience in the area are generally better connected than members of the newly formed groups.However,these strong networks were created by wild-born individuals with very low interaction rates.On the contrary,inexperienced groups composed of captive-bred individuals displayed many inter actions but created weak social networks.The results show a trend of behavioral transition from acclimatizing through long-term reintroduced to wild-born groups,supporting that the newly formed groups of released Przewalski's horses need time to display the typical social behavior patterns of wild-born individuals.Long-term monitoring of released Przewalski's horses is recommended to promote the success of this reintroduction program.
