A prospective cancer chemo-immunotherapy approach mediated by synergistic CD326 targeted porous silicon nanovectors

Combination therapy via nanoparticulate systems has already been proposed as a synergistic approach for cancer treatment. Herein, undecylenic acid modified thermally hydrocarbonized porous silicon nanoparticles （UnTHCPSi NPs） loaded with sorafenib and surface-biofunctionalized with anti-CD326 antibody （Ab） were developed for cancer chemo-immunotherapy in MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. The cytocompatibility study showed no significant toxicity for the bare and antibody-conjugated UnTHCPSi （Un-Ab） NPs at concentrations lower than 200 μg·mL^-1. Compared to the bare UnTHCPSi, Un-Ab NPs loaded with sorafenib reduced the premature drug release in plasma, increasing the probability of proper drug targeting. In addition, high cellular interaction and subsequent internalization of the Un-Ab NPs into the cells expressing CD326 antigen demonstrated the possibility of improving antigen-mediated endocytosis via CD326 targeting. While an in vitro antitumor study revealed a higher inhibitory effect of the sorafenib-loaded Un-Ab NPs compared to the drug-loaded UnTHCPSi NPs in the CD326 positive MCF-7 cells, there was no difference in the anti-proliferation impact of both the abovementioned NPs in the CD326 negative MDA-MB-231 cells, suggesting CD326 as an appropriate receptor for Ab-mediated drug delivery. It was also shown that the anti-CD326 Ab can act as an immunotherapeutic agent by inducing antibody dependent cellular cytotoxicity and enhancing the interaction of effector immune and cancer cells for subsequent phagocytosis and cytokine secretion. Hence, the developed nanovectors can be applied for simultaneous tumor-selective drug targeting and immunotherapy.

Rapid and effective data sharing is necessary to control disease outbreaks,such as the current coronavirus *** the existence of data sharing agreements,data silos,lack of interoperable data infrastructures,and different institutional jurisdictions hinder data sharing and *** overcome these challenges,the Virus Outbreak Data Network(VODAN)-Africa initiative is championing an approach in which data never leaves the institution where it was generated,but,instead,algorithms can visit the data and query multiple datasets in an automated *** make this possible,FAIR Data Points—distributed data repositories that host machine-actionable data and metadata that adhere to the FAIR Guidelines(that data should be Findable,Accessible,Interoperable and Reusable)—have been deployed in participating institutions using a dockerised bundle of tools called VODAN in a Box(Vi B).Vi B is a set of multiple FAIR-enabling and open-source services with a single goal:to support the gathering of World Health Organization(WHO)electronic case report forms(e CRFs)as FAIR data in a machine-actionable way,but without exposing or transferring the data outside the *** the execution of a proof of concept,Vi B was deployed in Uganda and Leiden *** proof of concept generated a first query which was implemented across two continents.A SWOT(strengths,weaknesses,opportunities and threats)analysis of the architecture was carried out and established the changes needed for specifications and requirements for the future development of the solution.

Listeriosis Knowledge and Attitude among Pregnant Women Attending a Tertiary Health Institution, South Western Nigeria

Background: Listeriosis affects immunosuppressed individual’s especially pregnant women. Maternal infections are usually mild for the woman, but may have devastating effects on the unborn child, including miscarriage, stillbirth, preterm labour and serious neonatal illness. WHO recommends that pregnant women should be educated to avoid foods with high risk of contamination. This study seeks to evaluate knowledge and practices predisposing to listeria infections during pregnancy. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional study on pregnant women, attending the antenatal clinic of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) using semi structured questionnaires. The knowledge score of participants was collated and analyzed using SPSS version 26. Results: The mean age of the participants was 32.07 ± 5.6 years. Forty-three (30.7%) women have had previous miscarriages with the mean no of miscarriage of 1.54. Out of 147 participants, only 20 (13.6%) admitted having heard of listeriosis while 127 (86.4%) had never heard of listeriosis and none of the participants has ever been tested for listeriosis. The Overall knowledge score was poor, and this was irrespective of age and duration of pregnancy. However, women with graduate and/or postgraduate degrees were more likely to have heard of Listeriosis (X2 = 10.88, P = 0.028). Conclusion: Our study shows a low level of knowledge about this food-borne illness, which can lead to severe illnesses in pregnant women and their unborn child. It is necessarily to educate pregnant women on the risk of listeriosis. This would be a key factor in creating and implementing accurate measures of prevention and control.

Investigating Contributions of Total Column Ozone Variation on Some Meteorological Parameters in Nigeria

The relationship between some meteorological parameters and variation of total column ozone (TCO) concentration in Nigeria is studied from 1998-2012. The results using a descriptive analysis revealed a seasonal ozone variation having the same trend in all the stations during the period of study. High variability of TCO occurred between December and March coinciding with the period of dry season and low variability of TCO was observed in August coinciding with the period of rainy season. The observed trends in all the stations show that the TCO variation in Nigeria is mostly caused by natural occurrences. Calabar and Port Harcourt stations showed a high percent of TCO variability, while Kano and Maiduguri indicated a low percentage of TCO variability. Using Spearman correlation analysis, TCO concentration has a strong negative correlation with temperature in some stations with correlation coefficient (r) (-0.8392, -0.8531, -0.7832, -8881 and -0.7902) for Calabar, Port Harcourt, Makurdi, Lagos and Ilorin respectively. Kano and Maiduguri showed a weak positive correlation coefficient (r) 0.4965 and 0.3776 respectively. Positive correlation observed in Kano and Maiduguri could be as a result of high dehydration of water vapour in these stations due to seasonal harmattan and latitudinal effects. Probably, some of the substances that could deplete ozone such as HCl, aerosol are soluble in water thereby being washed off by rain during wet season leading to maximum TCO concentration during rainy season. Inflammasomes represent protective weapons against pathogens and cellular damage,although their uncontrolled activation drives the progression of inflammatory,metabolic,and neurodegenerative *** signals activate the NLRP3 inflammasome,and a few studies have reported that mitochondrial reactive oxygen species(ROS)are involved in this ***,the source of mitochondrial ROS and their specific role in NLRP3 triggering are ***,we show that H2O2 produced by the mitochondrial enzyme monoamine oxidase B(MAO-B)plays a nonredundant role in sustaining NLRP3 inflammasome ***,MAO-B-dependent ROS formation caused mitochondrial dysfunction and NF-κB induction,resulting in NLRP3 and pro-IL-1β*** in vitro and in vivo,MAO-B inhibition by rasagiline prevented IL-1βsecretion,and MAO-B-deficient mice showed an impaired response to LPS-mediated *** findings identify MAO-B as a specific producer of mitochondrial ROS fueling the NLRP3 inflammasome,thereby providing a basis for repurposing MAOB inhibitors to treat inflammasome-mediated pathologies.

Different peppers fermentations (Capsicum annum, grossum variety) were assayed: spontaneous, native microflora supplemented individually with Lactobacillus plantarum N8, Leuconostoc mesentereroides L. or Pediococcus pentosaceus 12p and by pure or combined cultures of these lactic acid bacteria (LAB). In order to eliminate the native flora, different kinds of heat treatment were assayed. The treatment selected was heating in autoclaved after research 3/4 atmosphere and to turn off. Fermentations were carried out at 22?C and 30?C and the culture media contained 2% or 0.2% glucose and 4% NaCl. Sugar consumption, pH reduction and acid production were higher at 30℃ than at 22℃. At both temperatures, spontaneous fermentation showed a slower rate reduction in pH than inoculated samples. Diminution in pH in presence of 2% glucose was faster than at 0.2%, but minimum pH was in both case lower than 3.0. Maximum growth was reached between 2 and 5 days of fermentation in all the samples assayed. After 30 days of incubation in presence of 2% glucose the survival of LAB was nearly 5 log ufc/ml. The survival was higher at the lower temperature assayed for both glucose concentrations. Organoleptic properties of peppers fermented with a mixed culture of Leuconostoc mesenteroides and Pediococcus pentosaceus were found best by a human panel. This sample has a relation lactic acid/acetic acid of nearly 3 in the conditions assayed.

Is There a Literature From the State of Amazon？

I have chosen this title because it represents a question which floats over the existence of literariness in authors from State of Amazon. Literariness, from Jakobson＇s viewpoint, is the number of proprieties which characterizes the literary language. In this regard, the literary text distinguishes itself for the fact of transforming realities and for use it as model to create ＂fantastic＂ worlds, which exist only in the texts, once they set up themselves through metaphors, caricature, allegory, and likelihood. Formalists declare that the object of literary science must be studied from the specific particularities that differentiate the literary objects of all other subject. There is a book, written by the poet Jorge Tufic, which raises that same question, and finally responds：＂there is a lost language which must be recovered＂ to better understand that we can be a new research and creativity field. I have chosen then, for this study, three tales oftbe writer Arthur Engr^cio to discuss this question. It is aimed at contributing, in a general way, to the knowledge of the literature produced by Engr^cio, as well as to extend it to other perspectives heretofore little studied.

Antioxidants, Chemical Composition and Minerals in Freeze-Dried Camu-Camu (<i>Myrciaria dubia</i>(H.B.K.) Mc Vaugh) Pulp

Camu-camu (Myrciaria dubia (H.B.K.) Mc Vaugh) is a fruit native to the Amazon region and is considered the greatest natural source of vitamin C worldwide. It is also a promising source of many phenolic compounds, including flavonoids and anthocyanins. Given the growing rates of chronic non-communicable diseases such as dyslipidemia, obesity and diabetesworldwide, freeze-dried camu-camu can be used for its functional properties, which can reduce the incidence of these diseases. Hence, the objective of this study was to produce freeze-dried camu-camu pulp and present it as an alternative functional food because of its high production and use potential, adding value to this fruit in particular, not very demanded by the food industry. Freeze-dried camu-camu pulp is a pink, homogeneous powder with great antioxidant capacity, 52,000 μmol TE/g, six times greater than freeze-dried acai powder. It is also very rich in vitamin C (20.31 g/100g), potassium (796.99 mg/100g), carbohydrates (47.00 g/100g), dietary fiber (19.23 g/100 g), many amino acids, other vitamins, and anthocyanins (0.739 mg/g). The camu-camu freeze-drying process is an effective alternative way to preserve the fruit, preserving its macronutrient and vitamin C contents. Camu-camu is also an excellent source of other bioactive compounds, such as minerals and other phenolic compounds. In conclusion, camu-camu can be used to introduce bioactive compounds into food products and to delay or prevent many human diseases.

Heat Transfer with Viscous Dissipation in Couette-Poiseuille Flow under Asymmetric Wall Heat Fluxes

Analytical solutions of temperature distributions and the Nusselt numbers in forced convection are reported for flow through infinitely long parallel plates, where the upper plate moves in the flow direction with constant velocity and the lower plate is kept stationary. The flow is assumed to be laminar, both hydro-dynamically and thermally fully developed, taking into account the effect of viscous dissipation of the flowing fluid. Both the plates being kept at specified and at different constant heat fluxes are considered as thermal boundary conditions. The solutions obtained from energy equation are in terms of Brinkman number, dimensionless velocity and heat flux ratio. These parameters greatly influence and give complete understanding on heat transfer rates that has potentials for designing and analyzing energy equipment and processes.
