Background:Transmission dynamics,vectorial capacity,and co-infections have substantial impacts on vector-borne diseases(VBDs)affecting urban and suburban *** key factors can provide insight into priority research areas and offer suggestions for potential *** body:Through a scoping review,we identify knowledge gaps on transmission dynamics,vectorial capacity,and co-infections regarding VBDs in urban ***-reviewed and grey literature published between 2000 and 2016 was *** screened abstracts and full texts to select *** an extraction grid,we retrieved general data,results,lessons learned and recommendations,future research avenues,and practice *** classified studies by VBD and country/continent and identified relevant knowledge *** 773 articles selected for full-text screening,50 were included in the review:23 based on research in the Americas,15 in Asia,10 in Africa,and one each in Europe and *** largest body of evidence concerning VBD epidemiology in urban areas concerned dengue and *** arboviruses covered included chikungunya and West Nile virus,other parasitic diseases such as leishmaniasis and trypanosomiasis,and bacterial rickettsiosis and *** articles retrieved in our review combined transmission dynamics and vectorial capacity;only two combined transmission dynamics and *** review identified significant knowledge gaps on the role of asymptomatic individuals,the effects of co-infection and other host factors,and the impacts of climatic,environmental,and socioeconomic factors on VBD transmission in urban *** included the trade-off from narrowing the search strategy(missing out on classical modelling studies),a lack of studies on co-infections,most studies being only descriptive,and few offering concrete public health *** research is needed on transmission risk in homes and workplaces,given increasingly dynamic and mobil

Commercial Laundry Water Characterisation

surfactants are the major active ingredients of laundry detergents. Therefore, special attention should be focused on the treatment and disposal of laundry wastewater. The aim of this study was to characterise the wastewater from a commercial laundry over 30 days. Physicochemical analyses were performed, monitoring the content of nitrogen, phosphate, heavy metals, linear alkylbenzene sulphonate (LAs), volatile organic acids and alcohols. The pH was approximately 5.6 and the COD approximately 4800 mg·L-1. The average concentrations of sulphate, sulphide, N-ammoniacal organic nitrogen compounds and heavy metals were below the maximum limit, in accordance with local and national environmental legislation, and the average total suspended solids was 0.08 g·L-1. Among the metals analysed, iron was observed with the highest concentrations (0.037 mg·L-1 and 0.72 mg·L-1). Phosphate was detected in 93% of samples (94.65 mg·L-1 average). LAs was detected in all samples (12.24 mg·L-1 to 1023.7 mg·L-1). Thirty-three different xenobiotic organic compounds were identified in the laundry wastewater with the qualitative screening. The major groups of the compounds were fragrances, preservatives, solvents and some surfactants. Although the characterisation indicated low values for many parameters, this does not eliminate the need for specific treatment before its disposal at the sewage system.

sedimentary and Geochemical Aspects of a Refinery Impacted Coastal Area: A Case study of the Todos os santos Bay (Bahia, Brazil)

The present study was performed in the northeast portion of the Todosos santos Bay, Bahia state, Brazil, an area under influence of the Landulpho Alves-Mataripe (RLAM) refinery effluents. The aim of this work is to evaluate the modern sedimentary processes based on grain-size analysis, calcium carbonate and sedimentary organic matter concentration and behavior considering the possible effects of the petroleum industry’s refining on these sediments. The concentrations and variations of the three main constituents of organic matter (total organic C, total N and organic P), and the resulting elemental ratios (C/N, C/P and N/P), were studied on a seasonal spatial and temporal scale (winter 2004 and summer 2005), therefore subsidizing the environmental analysis, especially in regards to the benthic ecosystem. Fifty samples from twenty-five sampling stations were collected with a grab sampler. Well sorted sandy sediments are observed in coastal sampling stations and in the Caboto channel. The recent deposition of fine sediments was observed especially in the west and central portions of study area. However, these spots contain the highest percentages of organic material, which do not present significant seasonal and spatial variations, revealed by the values of total organic C which reach values of up to 3.1%, total N (0.01% to 0.15%) and the organic P contents that reach a maximum of 15.9 μmol·g-1. In general, the elemental ratios indicated continental organic matter inputs, probably derived from human activities.

GTD (Gestational Trophoblastic Disease) is a pathology that encompasses benign and malignant clinical forms, affects women of childbearing age, has a variable incidence and is more frequent in developing or underdeveloped countries, colliding with the economic barrier. The frequent absence of clear protocols and guidelines for the correct diagnosis of the pathology results in inadequate classification, imprecise treatment and failed post-therapeutic observation, increasing the risk of relapses, morbidity and mortality. The present study aims to point out updated national and international practice protocols of diagnosis of GTD, through an integrative review. seven articles were selected and it was observed that the main international reference centers are agreed with the management suggested by the IFGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics), being the conduct in the Hydatidiform Mole (HM): evacuation by suction and curettage under ultrasound guidance, followed by hCG monitoring every 1 - 2 weeks until normalized (usually one month for Partial Hydatidiform Mole six months for Complete Hydatidiform Mole and one year for Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia). Unfortunately, regarding the diagnosis of MH, the guidelines of some countries show the absence or difficulty of access to the karyotype test and ploid p57 or pelvic ultrasound accompanying the uterine curettage, contrary to what is proposed by the IFGO guideline. Establishing and complying with consistent guidelines can improve patient care, with early diagnosis of the pathology and its complications, reducing the rate of recurrence, morbidity and mortality, especially in less developed countries.

Molybdenum-based catalysts supported on Al_2O_3 doped with Ni, Cu, or Fe oxide were synthesized and used in ethylbenzene dehydrogenation to produce styrene. The molybdenum oxide was supported using an unconventional route that combined the polymeric precursor method(Pechini) and wet impregnation on commercial alumina. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), N_2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, temperature-programmed reduction of H_2(H_2-TPR),and thermogravimetric(TG) analysis. XRD results showed that the added metals were well dispersed on the alumina support. The addition of the metal oxide(Ni, Cu, or Fe) of 2 wt% by wet impregnation did not affect the texture of the support. TPR results indicated a synergistic effect between the dopant and molybdenum oxide. The catalytic tests showed ethylbenzene conversion of 28%–53% and styrene selectivity of 94%–97%, indicating that the addition of the dopant improved the catalytic performance, which was related to the redox mechanism. Molybdenum oxides play a fundamental role in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene by its redox and acid–base properties. The sample containing Cu showed an atypical result with increasing conversion during the reaction, which was due to metal reduction. The Ni-containing solid exhibited the highest amount of carbon deposited, shown by TG analysis after the catalytic test, which explained its lower catalytic stability and selectivity.

GTD (Gestational Trophoblastic Disease) is a pathology that encompasses benign and malignant clinical forms, affects women of childbearing age, has a variable incidence and is more frequent in developing or underdeveloped countries, colliding with the economic barrier. The frequent absence of clear protocols and guidelines for the correct diagnosis and treatment of the aforementioned pathology results in inadequate risk classification, imprecise treatment and failed post-therapeutic observation, increasing the risk of relapses, morbidity and mortality. The present study aims to compare the different national and international guidelines in the management of GTD, through an integrative review. Nine articles were selected and it was observed that the main international reference centers are agreed with the management suggested by the IFGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics), being the conduct in the Hydatidiform Mole (HM): evacuation by suction and curettage under ultrasound guidance, followed by hCG monitoring every 1 - 2 weeks until normalized;in low-risk GTN (Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasm): chemotherapy with methotrexate or actinomycin D, in high-risk: EMA/CO protocol, in ultra-high-risk EMA/PE, methotrexate with radiotherapy for brain metastases. All medical societies recommend the registration of these patients in GTD screening centers, endorse the use of the IFGO scoring system (2000) and recommend the surgical management of placental site trophoblastic or epithelioid tumors, as chemotherapy is less effective in these cases. The controversies are in the proper follow-up after the treatment of HM, use of ultrasound to evacuate the uterus, administration of anti-D immunoglobulin, time of oxytocin infusion and rescue regimens that can be used in cases of resistant or recurrent GTN. Associations of sense of coherence with psychological distress and quality of life in inflammatory bowel disease
