This paper introduces and discusses numerical methods for flee-surface flow simulations and applies a large eddy simula- tion （LES） based flee-surface-resolved CFD method to a couple of flows of hydraulic engineering interest. The advantages, dis- advantages and limitations of the various methods are discussed. The review prioritises interface capturing methods over interface tracking methods, as these have shown themselves to be more generally applicable to viscous flows of practical engineering interest, particularly when complex and rapidly changing surface topologies are encountered. Then, a LES solver that employs the level set method to capture flee-surface deformation in 3-D flows is presented, as are results from two example calculations that concern com- plex low submergence turbulent flows over idealised roughness elements and bluff bodies. The results show that the method is capable of predicting very complex flows that are characterised by strong interactions between the bulk flow and the free-surface, and permits the identification of turbulent events and structures that would be very difficult to measure experimentally.

The circadian timing system plays a key role in orchestrating lipid metabolism. In concert with the solar cycle, the circadian system ensures that daily rhythms in lipid absorption, storage, and transport are temporally coordinated with rest-activity and feeding cycles. At the cellular level, genes involved in lipid synthesis and fatty acid oxidation are rhythmically activated and repressed by core clock proteins in a tissue-specific manner. Consequently, loss of clock gene function or misalignment of circadian rhythms with feeding cycles （e.g., in shift work） results in impaired lipid homeostasis. Herein, we review recent progress in circadian rhythms research using lipidomics, i.e., large-scale profiling of lipid metabolites, to characterize circadian-regulated lipid pathways in mammals. In mice, novel regulatory circuits involved in fatty acid metabolism have been identified in adipose tissue, liver, and muscle. Extensive diversity in circadian regulation of plasma lipids has also been revealed in humans using lipidomics and other metabolomics approaches. In future studies, lipidomics platforms will be increasingly used to better understand the effects of genetic variation, shift work, food intake, and drugs on circadian-regulated lipid pathways and metabolic health.

Dear editor,The national incidence of penile fracture in the United States is estimated as 1.02 per 100000 males[1].Nine to twenty percent of these injuries result in a concomitant urethral injury[2,3].Barros et al.[4]reported that 85 out of 888 penile fractures men with penile fractures had concomitant urethral injuries[4].Among those with both a penile fracture and urethral injury,only two cases of urethral stricture were ***,only three percent of urethral strictures resulted from penile fractures[5].These data highlight the relatively low incidence of urethral stricture in patients with penile fracture and concomitant urethral injury.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma （PDAC） is considered to be the most lethal and aggressive malignancy with high mortality and poor prognosis. Alkali metal hydroxide and hydride composite systems contain both protic （H bonded with O） and hydridic hydrogen. The interaction of these two types of hydrides produces hydrogen. The enthalpy of dehydrogenation increased with the increase of atomic number of alkali metals, i.e., -23 kj/molnz for LiOH-LiH, 55.34 kj/moln： for NaOH-NaH and 222 kj/molH2 for KOH-KH. These thermodynamic calculation results were consistent with our experimental results. H2 was released from LiOH-LiH system during ball milling. The dehydrogenation temperature of NaOH-NaH system was about 150 ℃; whereas KOH and KH did not interact with each other during the heating process. Instead, KH decomposed by itself. In these three systems, NaOH-NaH was the only reversible hydrogen storage system, the enthalpy of dehydrogenation was about 55.65 kj/molHz, and the corresponding entropy was ca. 101.23 j/（molHz .K）, so the temperature for releasing 1.0 bar H2 was as high as 518 ℃, showing unfavorable thermodynamic properties. The activation energy for hydrogen desorption of NaOH-NaH was found to be 57.87 kj/mol, showing good kinetic properties.

High mechanical strengths and ductility of stainless steel 304L fabricated using selective laser melting

Achieving not only high mechanical strengths but also high ductility is recently established using an additive manufacturing technique called selective laser melting. In the present study, stainless steel 304 L fully dense samples were successfully printed using the 3 D systems – ProX 300 printing machine. The ductility and tensile yield strength were almost two and three times higher compared to those of ASTM cast's alloy. Honey comb like nano-cellular structure with different orientation was observed in the fine grains(~4μm) due to fast cooling rate. In addition, the formation of martensite phase in random grains is also a contributor to the strengths. Furthermore, negative residual stresses in the build and horizontal directions were detected and assisted further increase in the tensile strength. Fractography revealed the ductile feature of plastic deformation and the crack openings at unmelted particles or pores.
