The determination of emitted Biogenic Volatile Compounds （BioVOCs） profile via Field Air Analysis （FAA） - Solid Phase micro Extraction （75μm Carboxen/PDmS portable field sampler） was performed using GC-mS. The six sampling sites located in the Natural Park of Ampezzo Dolomites, part of the UNESCO＇s World Heritage List, are characterized by different predominating vegetation. The ubiquitous compound hexanal was chosen as internal standard, in order to compare the amounts of the different compound in the different sites. The main terpenes identified were α-pinene, 13-pinene, 6-3-carene and d-limonene, while 1,8 cineole was the highest abundant oxygenated terpene. In the site next the＇national road a higher amount of benzene derivatives （ben- zene, toluene, o-xylene, p-xylene and ethylbenzene） were observed. In the site relatively close to the road a marked decrease of benzene deriva- tives was observed. In the sites close to conifers （i.e. Fir, Pine and Larch） the terpenic content observed was higher than in the site close to the mixed forest （mainly large-leaf and some conifers）. Some terpenes were observed also in the high-quote meadow site, although of lower abun- dance than in the other sites. The highest abundance of terpenes was ob- served in the Pinus cerebra （Swiss Pine） site.

It is well known that the passive strategies applying in traditional buildings respond satisfactory to climatic requirements and succeed to provide maximum indoor comfort with minimum energy *** this point of view,it is interesting to quantitatively assess the effectiveness of the vernacular strategies to improve the environmental performance of the building's envelope under desert climate *** research tries to address this issue and was undertaken in southern Algeria where a very hot and arid climate *** effect of some selected passive cooling strategies on enhancing the building's envelope climate performance was *** strategies are inspired from the local vernacular architecture,and they are expected to provide satisfactory indoor thermal comfort for users and to reduce the energy cooling demand from residential *** field and computational investigations,two existing residential buildings were tested:a typical residential unit and a contemporary vernacular(neo-vernacular)*** the latter,climate responsive strategies inspired from vernacular architecture were applied.A comparison based on site measurements was carried out on the two selected buildings which differ from their envelope design properties and components.

AIm: To investigate the safety and efficacy of long-term combination therapy with alpha interferon and lamivudine in non-responsive patients with anti-HBe-positive chronic hepatitis ***: 34 patients received combination treatment (1 month lamivudine, 12 month lamivudine+interferon, 6month lamivudine), 24 received lamivudine (12 months),24 received interferon (12 months). Interferon was administered at 6 mU tiw and lamivudine at 100 mg orally once daily. Patients were followed up for 6 months after ***: At the end of treatment, HBV DNA negativity rates were 88 % with lamivudine+interferon, 99 % with lamivudine and 55 % with interferon, (P=0.004, combination therapy vs. interferon, and P=0.001 lamivudine ***), and serum transaminase normalization rates were 84 %, 91% and 53 % (P=0.01 combination therapy vs. interferon, and P=0.012 lamivudine vs. interferon). Six months later, HBV DNA negativity rates were 44 % with lamivudine+interferon, 33 % with lamivudine and 25 % with interferon, and serum transaminase normalization rates were 61%, 42 % and 45 %, respectively, without statistical significance. No YmDD variants were observed with lamivudine+interferon (vs. 12 % with lamivudine). The combination therapy appeared to be safe. CONCLUSION: Although viral clearance and transaminase normalization are slower with long-term lamivudine+interferon than that with lamivudine alone, the combination regimen seems to provide more lasting benefits and to protect against the appearance of YmDD variants. Studies with other regimens regarding sequence and duration are needed.

The efficiency of photo-electrocatalytic（PECa） devices for the production of solar fuels depends on several limiting factors such as light harvesting, charge recombination and mass transport diffusion. We analyse here how they influence the performances in PECa cells having a photo-anode based on Au-modified TiOnanotube（TNT） arrays, with the aim of developing design criteria to optimize the photo-anode and the PECa cell configuration for water photo-electrolysis（splitting） and ethanol photo-reforming *** TNT samples were prepared by controlled anodic oxidation of Ti foils and then decorated with gold nanoparticles using different techniques to enhance the visible light response through heterojunction and plasmonic effects. The activity tests were made in a gas-phase reactor, as well as in a PECa cell without applied bias. Results were analysed in terms of photo-generated current, Hproduction rate and photoconversion efficiency. Particularly, a solar-to-hydrogen efficiency of 0.83% and a Faradaic efficiency of 91%were obtained without adding sacrificial reagents.

The correction of buoyancy effects is tackled for particles moving close to a singular corner in creeping flow conditions.A few density-mismatched particle trajectories are used to reconstruct the dynamics of a neutrally-buoyant particle all over the target *** propose to take advantage of the dissipative dynamics of density-mismatched particles in order to probe the target ***,we retrieve the neutrally-buoyant particle flow all over the domain by reconstructing the phase space of the density-mismatched particulate flow and taking the limit of the particle-to-fluid density ratio tending to *** robustness of such an approach is demonstrated by deliberately ill-conditioning the reconstruction *** fact,we show that our algorithm well performs even when we rely on qualitatively-different density-mismatched orbit topologies or on bundles of close trajectories rather than homogeneously distributed *** applications to microfluidics and improvements of the proposed algorithm are finally discussed.

The prediction of atomistic fracture mechanisms in body-centred cubic(bcc)iron is essential for understanding its semi-brittle *** atomistic simulations of the crack-tip under mode-I loading based on empirical interatomic potentials yield contradicting predictions and artificial *** enable fracture prediction with quantum accuracy,we develop a Gaussian approximation potential(GAP)using an active learning strategy by extending a density functional theory(DFT)database of ferromagnetic bcc *** apply the active learning algorithm and obtain a Fe GAP model with a converged model uncertainty over a broad range of stress intensity factors(SIFs)and for four crack *** learning efficiency of the approach is analysed,and the predicted critical SIFs are compared with Griffith and Rice *** simulations reveal that cleavage along the original crack plane is the atomistic fracture mechanism for{100}and{110}crack planes at T=0 K,thus settling a long-standing *** work also highlights the need for a multiscale approach to predicting fracture and intrinsic ductility,whereby finite temperature,finite loading rate effects and pre-existing defects(e.g.,nanovoids,dislocations)should be taken explicitly into account.

The manufacturing of nanomaterials by the electrospinning process requires accurate and meticulous inspection of related scanning electron microscope(SEm)images of the electrospun nanofiber,to ensure that no structural defects are *** presence of anomalies prevents practical application of the electrospun nanofibrous material in ***,the automatic monitoring and quality control of nanomaterials is a relevant challenge in the context of Industry *** this paper,a novel automatic classification system for homogenous(anomaly-free)and non-homogenous(with defects)nanofibers is *** inspection procedure aims at avoiding direct processing of the redundant full SEm ***,the image to be analyzed is first partitioned into subimages(nanopatches)that are then used as input to a hybrid unsupervised and supervised machine learning *** the first step,an autoencoder(AE)is trained with unsupervised learning to generate a code representing the input image with a vector of relevant ***,a multilayer perceptron(mLP),trained with supervised learning,uses the extracted features to classify non-homogenous nanofiber(NH-NF)and homogenous nanofiber(H-NF)*** resulting novel AE-mLP system is shown to outperform other standard machine learning models and other recent state-of-the-art techniques,reporting accuracy rate up to92.5%.In addition,the proposed approach leads to model complexity reduction with respect to other deep learning strategies such as convolutional neural networks(CNN).The encouraging performance achieved in this benchmark study can stimulate the application of the proposed scheme in other challenging industrial manufacturing tasks.

Ultrasmall Au nanoclusters have been proven to effectively enhance the catalytic performance of NiFe layered double hydroxides(NiFe-LDHs)toward oxygen evolution reaction(OER),yet the surface ligand effect of the Au nanoclusters still remains ***,a systematic study is reported to examine the OER performance of NiFe-LDHs supported atom-precise all alkynyl-protected[Au_(28)(~tBuC≡C)17]~-nanoclusters(Au_(28)-Alkynyl in short)and thiolate-protected Au_(28)(TBBT)_(20)(TBBT=4-tert-butylbenzene thiol)counterp arts(Au_(28)-Thiolate in short).The Au_(28)-Alkynyl cluster has characteristic absorbance feature,and its composition is verified by mass *** possesses a drastically different structure from the reported mixed ligand protected Au_(28)***,the NiFe-LDHs loaded with Au_(28)-Alkynyl exhibited a superior OER performance than the sample loaded with Au28-Thiolate under the same conditions,evidenced by a smaller overpotential of 205 mV at the current density of 10 mA·cm^(-2)and a lower Tafel slope value of 41.0 mV·dec^(-1)in 1 mol·L^(-1)*** excellent performance is attributed to the interfaces created between the NiFe-LDHs and the Au nanoclusters,as density functional theory calculations reveal that more significant charge transfer occurs in Au_(28)-Alkynyl/NiFeLDHs catalyst,and more importantly,the energy barrier of the potential-determining step in the OER process for Au28-Alkynyl/NiFe-LDHs is much lower than that of Au28-Thiolate/NiFe-LDHs hence favors the electrocatalytic reaction.

We present the results of our study of the eclipsing binary systems CSS J112237.1+395219,LINEAR 1286561 and LINEAR 2602707 based on new CCD B,V,Rcand Iccomplete light *** ultra-short period nature of these stars,as reported by Drake et al.,is confirmed and the system’s periods are *** light curves were modeled using the 2003 version of the Wilson-Devinney *** necessary,cool spots on the surface of the primary component were introduced to account for asymmetries in the light *** a result,we found that CSS J112237.1+395219 is a W Uma type contact binary system belonging to W subclass with a mass ratio of q=1.61 and a shallow degree of contact of 14.8%where the primary component is hotter than the secondary one by 500 *** 1286561 and LINEAR2602707 are detached binary systems with mass ratios q=3.467 and q=0.987 *** detached systems are low-mass m-type eclipsing binaries with similar *** marginal contact,fill-out factor and temperature difference between components of CSS J112237.1+395219 suggest that this system may be at a key evolutionary state predicted by thermal relaxation oscillation(TRO)*** the estimated absolute parameters,we conclude that our systems share common properties with other ultrashort period binaries.

Suspended sediment transport analysis in two Italian instrumented catchments

Suspended sediment transport in streams is an effective indicator of soil erosion at the watershed scale. This process was studied using the data obtained from two continuous monitoring stations installed in Italian watersheds, the Rio Cordon and Torrente CarapeUe. The catchments have substantially different climatic, morphological and land use characteristics. The Rio Cordon, a small Alpine watershed, has been monitored since 1986, while in the Torrente Carapelle, a medium-size mediterranean watershed, the monitoring station has provided data since 2007. Several flood events with suspended sediment transport were isolated in the two catchments, excluding those determined by snowmelt in the Rio Cordon as this process does not affect the Carapelle watershed. Analysis of the events showed different behavior in terms of hysteresis loop trends between water discharge （m3 S-1） and suspended sediment concentration （g 1-1） values, as the Rio Cordon confirms clockwise relationships most frequently, while counter-clockwise trends represent the majority of cases for the Carapelle Torrent. The different behavior of the two watersheds was further analyzed by evaluating relationships between the main hydrological parameters related to suspended sediment transport. Runoff controls the total sediment budget in both catchments. In contrast, it was noted that the runoff process does not interfere in the magnitude of the suspended sediment transport in the Rio Cordon catchment, while variations due to the larger size of the catchment area characterize the events in the Carapelle watershed. Lastly, a flow peak threshold that determines the advance or delay of the hydrograph peak with respect to the sedigraph peak was established for the Carapelle Torrent, while it was not reported in the Rio Cordon.
