Inhibitory interneurons are gamma-aminobutyric acid-ergic (GABAergic) nerve cells that act to maintain the appropriate excitation-inhibition balance, and synchronise the output of principle cells to generate rhythmic patterns of firing (Kessaris et al., 2014). This critical role, along with their brain-wide distribution, has led to the implication of interneurons in many neuropathologies, including schizophrenia, autism, dystonia and epilepsies (Marín, 2012).

Viruses hijack host functions to invade their target cells and spread to new ***,viruses learned to usurp liquid-liquid phase separation(LLPS),a newly exploited mechanism,used by the cell to concentrate enzymes to accelerate and confine a wide variety of cellular *** gives rise to actual membraneless organelles(MLOs),which do not only increase reaction rates but also act as a filter to select molecules to be retained or to be excluded from the liquid *** is exactly what seems to happen with the condensation of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein to favor the packaging of intact viral genomes,excluding viral subgenomic or host cellular *** older pandemic virus,HIV-1,also takes advantage of LLPS in the host cell during the viral *** discoveries highlighted that HIV-1 RNA genome condensates in nuclear MLOs accompanied by specific host and viral proteins,breaking the dogma of retroviruses that limited viral synthesis exclusively to the cytoplasmic *** fundamental properties of viral/host LLPS remain still *** studies will contribute to deeply understanding the role of pathogen-induced MLOs in the epidemic invasion of pandemic viruses.

Neuroscience,neuroprosthetics and neural regeneration would benefit from more adequate interfacing *** understand how neurons communicate,process information and control behavior,researchers need to monitor nerve cell activity with high specifity and high spatio-temporal *** prostheses require minimally invasive-implantable devices to re- place lost function, and bypass dysfunctional pathways in the nervous system. Devices built to repair damaged nerves have to support and promote regeneration of host neurons through an injured area. Finally, as neuromodulation is being elevated from last resort to first choice treatment for an increasing number of conditions, implantable devices able to perform targeted regu- lation of neural activity are needed. Recent advances in device miniaturization, materials engineering, and nanotechnology are enabling development of an increasing number of devices that effectively interface with neural circuits. Wireless spinal cord and deep brain stimulators, retinal and cochlear implants, high density electrodes arrays for neural recording have already proven to significantly impact fundamental research in neuro- science, as well as individuals＇ quality of life.

An experimental investigation on the near and far wake of a cascade of high-lift low-pressure turbine blades subjected to boundary layer separation over the suction side surface has been carried out, under steady and unsteady inflows. Two Reynolds number conditions, representative of take-off/landing and cruise operating conditions of the real engine, have been tested. The effect of upstream wake-boundary layer interaction on the wake shed from the profile has been investigated in a three-blade large-scale linear turbine cascade. The comparison between the wakes shed under steady and unsteady inflows has been performed through the analysis of mean velocity and Reynolds stress components measured at midspan of the central blade by means of a two-component crossed miniature hot-wire probe. The wake development has been analyzed in the region between 2% and 100% of the blade chord from the central blade trailing edge, aligned with the blade exit direction. Wake integral parameters, half-width and maximum velocity defects have been evaluated from the mean velocity distributions to quantify the modifications induced on the vane wake by the upstream wake. Moreover the thicknesses of the two wake shear layers have been considered separately in order to identify the effects of Reynolds number and incoming flow on the wake shape. The self-preserving state of the wake has been looked at, taking into account the different thicknesses of the two shear layers. The evaluation of the power density spectra of the velocity fluctuations allowed the study of the wake unsteady behavior, and the detection of the effects induced by the different operating conditions on the trailing edge vortex shedding.

Surgical meshes have been employed in the management of a variety of pathological conditions including hernia,pelvic floor dysfunctions,periodontal guided bone regeneration,wound healing and more recently for breast plastic surgery after *** common pathologies affect a wide portion of the worldwide population;therefore,an effective and enhanced treatment is crucial to ameliorate patients’living conditions both from medical and aesthetic points of *** present,non-absorbable synthetic polymers are the most widely used class of biomaterials for the manufacturing of mesh implants for hernia,pelvic floor dysfunctions and guided bone regeneration,with polypropylene and poly tetrafluoroethylene being the most *** prostheses,such as surgical grafts,have been employed mainly for breast plastic surgery and wound healing *** the advantages of mesh implants to the treatment of these conditions,there are still many drawbacks,mainly related to the arising of a huge number of post-operative complications,among which infections are the most *** a mesh that could appropriately integrate with the native tissue,promote its healing and constructive remodelling,is the key aim of ongoing research in the area of surgical mesh *** this end,the adoption of new biomaterials including absorbable and natural polymers,the use of drugs and advanced manufacturing technologies,such as 3D printing and electrospinning,are under investigation to address the previously mentioned challenges and improve the outcomes of future clinical *** aim of this work is to review the key advantages and disadvantages related to the use of surgical meshes,the main issues characterizing each clinical procedure and the future directions in terms of both novel manufacturing technologies and latest regulatory considerations.

To quantify water erosion rates and annual soil loss in mountainous areas,two different empirical models were used to estimate the effects of soil erosion in a small mountain basin,the Guerna Creek watershed,located in the Central Southern Alps(Northern Italy).These two models,Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation(RUSLE) and Erosion Potential Model(EPM),were implemented in a Geographical Information System,accounting for the geographical,geomorphological,and weather-climate parameters,which are fundamental to evaluating the intensity and variability of the erosive *** characterization was supported by laboratory *** results(computed soil loss of 87 t/ha/year and 11.1 m^(3)/ha/year,using RUSLE equation and EPM method,respectively,and sediment yield of 7.5 m^(3)/ha/year using EPM method) were compared to other studies reported in the literature for different case studies with similar topographic and climatic features,as well as to those provided by the European Soil Data Centre(ESDAC).In both cases,the agreement was satisfactory,showing consistency of the adopted procedures to the parametrization of the physical processes.
