This study statistically evaluated the characteristics of induced earthquakes by geothermal power plants(GPPs)and generated a probabilistic model for simulating stochastic seismic *** well-known power plant zones were selected worldwide from the United States,Germany,France,and New *** operational condition information,as well as the corresponding earthquake catalogs recorded in the vicinity of GPPs,were gathered from their commencement *** statistical properties of events were studied *** using this proposed database,a probabilistic model was developed capable of generating the number of induced seismic events per month,their magnitude,focal depth,and distance from the epicenter to the power plant,*** of these parameters are simulated as a function of power plant injection *** speaking,the model,introduced in this study,is a tool for engineers and scientists interested in the seismic risk assessment of built environments prone to induced seismicity produced by GPPs operation.

Levees are essential structures in flood defense systems,and their failures can lead to devastating consequences on the surrounding *** of the failure mechanisms mostly controlled by the foundation soil stratigraphy is the instability of the land side slope,triggered by the development of high uplift pressures in the *** complex phenomenon has been investigated experimentally with centrifuge tests or large-scale tests and numerically with the limit equilibrium method(LEM)and the finite element method(FEM).In this work,we applied a multiphase formulation of the material point method(MPM)to analyze the development of toe uplift instability mechanism,from the onset of failure to large *** numerical model is inspired by an experiment carried out in a geotechnical centrifuge test by Allersma and Rohe(2003).The comparison with the experiment allows for understanding critical pore pressure triggering large displacements in the foundation ***,we numerically evaluated the impact of different values of foundation soils’hydraulic conductivity on the failure *** results show that hydraulic conductivity mainly influences the time of failure onset and the extension of shear localization at ***,the advantages of using large displacement approaches in the safety assessment of earth structures are *** FEM,there are no issues with element distortions generating difficulties with numerical convergence,allowing for full postfailure *** capability permits precise quantification of earth structure damages and post-failure *** ensuing reinforcement systems’design is no longer over-conservative,with a significant reduction in associated costs.

U-Pb spot ages on detrital zircons from turbidite quartzarenites,quartz-feldspathic and volcaniclastic sandstones of the Tufiti di Tusa(TTF),Numidian Flysch(NF),Bifurto(BF),Gorgoglione(GF)and Serra Palazzo(SPF)formations,exposed in southern Italy,were detected to define their provenance signatures aiming to contribute to reconstructing the complex geodynamic evolution of the southern Apennine *** deposition ages of these sandstones range from Rupelian(TTF),Burdigalian p.p.-Early Langhian(NF and BF)and Langhian-Serravallian-Early Tortonian(GF and SPF).The detrital zircon ages in each deposit show different *** TTF,the zircon age clusters are:610±6 Ma;390±4 Ma;287±3 Ma;157±2 Ma;78±1 Ma and 67±1 Ma;33±1 *** NF and BF formations,the prevalent zircon ages are clustered at 661±10 Ma,607±8 Ma and 547±8 *** GF sandstones,the ages of detrital zircons are clustered around 672±28 Ma,458±9 Ma,297±8 Ma and 24±1 *** sandstones of SPF contain zircons showing age clusters at649±10 Ma,486±7 Ma and 315±5 *** and lithic fragments from TTF display a dominant provenance from Oligocene calc-alkaline effusive products located on western domains of the Mesomediterranean Microplate,and minor detritus from granitoids and metamorphic rocks of Variscan *** of NF and BF indicate a provenance of detritus from the African Craton without evidence of Variscan or Alpine *** from GF and SPF show a provenance from both Variscan crystalline basement rocks forming the Alpine chain(Calabria-Peloritani Terranes)and Variscan magmatic and metamorphic rocks unaffected by Alpine tectonics,similar to Sardinia-Corsica(pro-parte)*** addition,the Oligocene magmatic component dated at 24 Ma in GF sandstones is evidence for the maximum age of sedimentation for these *** light of the recent and preliminary geochronological data acquired,a revised paleogeographic restoration could be inferred for the location of sedimentary basins during the Apennines t

Habitats are characterized by different local environmental conditions that inﬂuence both behavior and morphology of species,which can result in habitat-dependent phenotypic differences among animals living in heterogeneous *** studied 3 alpine populations of Eurasian red squirrels(Sciurus vulgaris),1 living in a marginal high-elevation habitat at the edge of the species’altitudinal distribution,and 2 occurring in higher-quality ***,we investigated whether squirrels living in the marginal area differed in 2 morphological parameters(body size and body mass)and/or in the expression of 4 personality traits estimated with an openﬁeld test and a mirror image stimulation test(activity,exploration,activity-exploration,and social tendency).Furthermore,we tested whether within-individual variance of the traits(behavioral plasticity)was higher in the edge *** squirrels in the edge habitat were smaller and weighed less than in the other study areas,while among females,size–habitat relationships were less *** sex-speciﬁc patterns were explained by a strong association between body mass and reproductive success in female *** in the marginal habitat were more active,explorative,and had a more social personality than in the other ***,in contrast to our predictions,behavioral plasticity was smaller in the marginal habitat,but only for the trait *** results suggest that animals choose the habitat that bestﬁts their personality,and that habitat-related differences in selective pressures may shape animals’morphology.

We read with great interest the article that retrospectively analyzed 814 patients with primary gastric cancer,who underwent minimally invasive R0 gastrectomy between 2009 and 2014 by grouping them in laparoscopic vs robotic *** results of the study highlighted that age,American Society of Anesthesiologists status,gastrectomy type and pathological T and N status were the main prognostic factors of minimally invasive gastrectomy and showed how the robotic approach may improve long-term outcomes of advanced gastric *** to most of the current literature,robotic surgery is associated with a statistically longer operating time when compared to open and laparoscopic surgery;however,looking at the adequacy of resection,defined by negative surgical margins and number of lymph nodes removed,it seems that robotic surgery gives better results in terms of the 5-year overall survival and recurrencefree *** robotic approach to gastric cancer surgery aims to overcome the difficulties and technical limitations of laparoscopy in major *** threedimensional vision,articulation of the instruments and good ergonomics for the surgeon allow for accurate and precise movements which facilitate the complex steps of surgery such as lymph node dissection,esophagus-jejunal anastomosis packaging and reproducing the technical accuracy of open *** the literature,as well as the analyzed study,offers us countless data regarding the short-term oncological results of robotic surgery in the treatment of gastric cancer,satisfactory data on long-term follow-up are lacking,so future studies are necessary.

Inducible T-cell costimulator(ICOS),a homodimeric protein expressed on the surface of activated T-cells,is being investigated as a potential therapeutic target to treat various *** studies have reported aberrant increases in the soluble form of ICOS(sICOS)in human serum in disease-state patients,primarily using commercial ELISA ***,results from our in-house immunoassay did not show these aberrant increases,leading us to speculate that commercial sICOS ELISAs may be prone to *** directly tested that hypothesis and found that one widely used commercial kit yields falsepositives and is prone to human anti-mouse antibody *** then analyzed a panel of healthy,cancer,chronic hepatitis C virus,systemic lupus erythematosus,and diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis human serum using our in-house immunoassay and reported the measured sICOS concentrations in these *** even well characterized immunoassay methods are prone to non-specific interference,we also developed a novel sICOS LC-MS/MS method to confirm the *** these orthogonal approaches,we show that sICOS is a low abundance soluble protein that cannot be measured above approximately 20 pg/mL in human serum.
