While wing form is known to differ between males and females of the genus Culicoides,detailed studies of sexual dimorphism are *** this study,we analyze sex-specific differences in the wing form of 5 species of the subgenus Avaritia,using geometric morphometrics and comparative phylogenetic *** results confirm the existence of marked sexual dimorphism in the wing form of the studied species and reveal for the first time that while there is a shared general pattern of sexual shape dimorphism within the subgenus,sexual size dimorphism,and particular features of sexual shape dimorphism differ among *** shape dimorphism was found to be poorly associated to size and the evolutionary history of the *** tight association of sexual shape dimorphism with aspect ratio suggests that the shape of the wing is optimized for the type of flight of each sex,that is,dispersal flight in females versus aerobatic flight in ***,the fact that interspecific shape differences are greater and more strongly associated to aspect ratio in males than in females might be indicating that in males the selective pressures affecting flight performance characteristics are more heterogeneous and/or stronger than in females among the studied species.

Spinal muscular atrophy(SMA)is a genetic condition that results in selective lower motor neuron loss with concomitant muscle weakness and *** genetic cause of SMA was understood in 1995 when loss or impairment of the survival motor neuron 1(SMN1)gene was identified as the main contributing factor(Lefebvre et al.,1995).This,in combination with the discovery that humans have a“back-up”gene,SMN2,which can produce low levels(approximately 10%)of the full-length functional SMN protein,has led to the generation of SMA-specific gene *** was traditionally classified according to age of symptom onset and developmental milestones achieved,with life expectancy and severity varying between ***,SMN2 copy number is used as a proxy for the prediction of disease severity,with higher SMN2 copy number typically being associated with reduced severity of SMA,although this relationship is not absolute:some individuals with low SMN2 copy number have less severe SMA phenotypes and vice ***,the etiology of SMA is further complicated by other factors,such as non-typical nucleotide variants and SMN2-independent modifiers of disease severity.

Turbulent Agglomeration of Microparticles in a Cylinder Wake Flow Using LES-DEM:Focusing on the Effect of the Reynolds Number

Turbulent agglomeration is viewed as a promising technology for enhancing fine particle removal *** better understand particle transport,agglomeration behaviors,and fluid-particle interactions,we numerically explored these phenomena under cylindrical vortex wake influence using a coupled large eddy simulation and discrete element method（LES-DEM） *** validity of the LES approach was verified by comparison with available direct numerical simulation（DNS） *** adopted the Johnson-Kendall-Roberts（JKR） contact model for particle-particle *** particle dispersion and agglomeration characteristics of particles with different diameters（dp=2-20 μm） in the laminar and transition of shear layer（TrSL） flow regimes were *** particles were concentrated at the vortex centers,while larger particles accumulated around the *** agglomeration efficiency exhibited an M-shaped profile spanwise（y-direction）.With increasing Reynolds number,the agglomeration efficiency and turbulence intensity *** particle agglomeration efficiency peaks at a certain Reynolds ***,at higher Reynolds numbers,reducing the residence time of particles in the flow field decreases the agglomeration efficiency.

Olfactory ensheathing glia promote axonal regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system,including retinal ganglion cell axonal growth through the injured optic ***,it is unknown whether olfactory ensheathing glia also have neuroprotective *** ensheathing glia express brain-derived neurotrophic factor,one of the best neuroprotectants for axotomized retinal ganglion ***,we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective capacity of olfactory ensheating glia after optic nerve *** ensheathing glia cells from an established rat immortalized clonal cell line,TEG3,were intravitreally injected in intact and axotomized retinas in syngeneic and allogeneic mode with or without microglial inhibition or immunosuppressive *** and gene expression analyses were *** bulb-derived primary olfactory ensheathing glia and TEG3 express major histocompatibility complex classⅡ*** and syngenically transplanted TEG3 cells survived in the vitreous for up to 21 days,forming an *** axotomized retinas,only the allogeneic TEG3 transplant rescued retinal ganglion cells at 7 days but not at 21 *** these retinas,microglial anatomical activation was higher than after optic nerve crush *** intact retinas,both transplants activated microglial cells and caused retinal ganglion cell death at 21 days,a loss that was higher after allotransplantation,triggered by pyroptosis and partially rescued by microglial inhibition or ***,neuroprotection of axotomized retinal ganglion cells did not improve with these *** different neuroprotective properties,different toxic effects,and different responses to microglial inhibitory treatments of olfactory ensheathing glia in the retina depending on the type of transplant highlight the importance of thorough preclinical studies to explore these variables.

Precipitation kinetics of carbides during cyclical and isothermal aging of 2.25Cr–1Mo steel and its effect on mechanical properties

The carbide precipitation was analyzed during aging of 2.25Cr–1Mo steel at 550℃.The as-received steel was aged in two different manners:the first treatment was an isothermal aging at 550℃ for time up to 1000 h,and the second one was carried out by a cyclical aging,which consisted of aging at 550℃ for 1 h,water quenching at room temperature and then newly heating at 550℃.This procedure was repeated up to 300 *** M_(23)C_(6) and M6C carbide precipitation took place intragranularly and intergranularly for both aging *** carbide coarsening was detected to occur with the increasing aging ***,the growth kinetics of precipitation occurred more rapidly in the case of cyclical *** specimen hardness decreased with the aging time in both cases;however,it occurred in shorter aging time for the cyclical *** testing indicated the increase in ductility with the aging time,and the cyclically aged specimens showed larger ductility than the isothermally aged specimens.

Gas-Solid Flow,Combustion Characteristics,and Gas Emissions in a 75 t/h CFB Boiler Based on the CPFD Method

A 3D simulation using Computational Particle Fluid Dynamics（CPFD） methods was used to calculate coal combustion in a 75 t/h industrial-scale circulating fluidized bed（CFB） *** characteristics,gas-solid flow characteristics,and gaseous pollutant emissions of CFB boilers from combustion ignition to stable operation were systematically evaluated in this *** show that the temperature distribution is relatively uniform throughout the *** the combustion process unfolds within the boiler,the gas composition curve strikingly portrays the inverse correlation between CO2and *** the combustion reaction progresses,it becomes evident that the concentration of CO2progressively increases,while the concentration of O2concurrently *** inverse relationship underscores the fundamental combustion reaction,where carbon-based fuels react with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and release ***,a comprehensive analysis has revealed that,from ignition to stable combustion,both nitric oxide（NO） and sulfur dioxide（SO2） emissions exhibit a declining *** reduction in pollutant generation is attributed to the improvement in combustion *** complete combustion leads to lower levels of unburned hydrocarbons,which are prone to NO ***,the sulfur content in the fuel is more efficiently oxidized to sulfur trioxide（SO3） or bound in sulfates,reducing *** steady state in the simulation,the SO2mass flow rate varies significantly with the furnace height,gradually increasing from 0.07 kg·s-1at 4 m at the bottom of the furnace to a peak of 0.078 kg·s-1at 8 m in the center,and then decreasing to 0.06 kg·s-1at 20m at the top of the furnace.

Demyelination and remyelination have been major focal points in the study of peripheral nerve regeneration following peripheral nerve ***,the gene regulatory network of regenerated myelin differs from that of native *** of enhancer of zeste homolog 2(EZH2)hinders the differentiation,maturation,and myelination of Schwann cells in *** further determine the role of EZH2 in myelination and recovery post-peripheral nerve injury,conditional knockout mice lacking Ezh2 in Schwann cells(Ezh2^(fl/fl);Dhh-Cre and Ezh2^(fl/fl);Mpz-Cre)were *** results show that a significant proportion of axons in the sciatic nerve of Ezh2-depleted mice remain *** highlights the crucial role of Ezh2 in initiating Schwann cell ***,we observed that 21 days after inducing a sciatic nerve crush injury in these mice,most axons had remyelinated at the injury site in the control nerve,while Ezh2^(fl/fl);Mpz-Cre mice had significantly fewer remyelinated axons compared with their wild-type *** suggests that the absence of Ezh2 in Schwann cells impairs myelin formation and *** conclusion,EZH2 has emerged as a pivotal regulatory factor in the process of demyelination and myelin regeneration following peripheral nerve *** EZH2 activity during these processes may offer a promising therapeutic target for the treatment of peripheral nerve injuries.
