The DNA damage response（DDR） is a complex biological system activated by different types of DNA *** in certain components of the DDR machinery can lead to genomic instability disorders that culminate in tissue degeneration,premature aging,and various types of ***,malfunctioning DDR plays a role in the etiology of late onset brain degenerative disorders such as Parkinson＇s,Alzheimer＇s,and Huntington＇s *** many years,brain degenerative disorders were thought to result from aberrant neural *** we discuss the evidence that supports our novel hypothesis that brain degenerative diseases involve dysfunction of glial cells（astrocytes,microglia,and oligodendrocytes）.Impairment in the functionality of glial cells results in pathological neuro-glial interactions that,in turn,generate a ‘‘hostile＂ environment that impairs the functionality of neuronal *** events can lead to systematic neural demise on a scale that appears to be proportional to the severity of the neurological deficit.

There is much material demonstrating the use of acupuncture and moxibustion as an effective method of treatment in a variety of neurological conditions involving both peripheral and central nervous system dysfunction. Acupuncture＇s effects are experienced throughout the body but specifically acupuncture can be seen to contribute significantly to nerve metabolism and rebuilding. However, very little is written on the mechanisms for this nerve recovery. This paper will reflect on these mechanisms in relation to the treatment of neck problems associated with nerve root impingement.

Irradiating solids with ultrashort laser pulses is known to initiate femtosecond timescale magnetization ***,sub-femtosecond spin dynamics have not yet been observed or ***,we explore ultrafast light-driven spin dynamics in a highly nonresonant strong-field *** state-of-the-art ab initio calculations,we predict that a nonmagnetic material can transiently transform into a magnetic one via dynamical extremely nonlinear spin-flipping processes,which occur on attosecond timescales and are mediated by cascaded multi-photon and spin–orbit *** are nonperturbative nonresonant analogs to the inverse Faraday effect,allowing the magnetization to evolve in very high harmonics of the laser frequency(*** up to the 42nd,oscillating at~100 attoseconds),and providing control over the speed of magnetization by tuning the laser power and ***,we show that even for linearly polarized driving,where one does not intuitively expect the onset of an induced magnetization,the magnetization transiently oscillates as the system interacts with *** response is enabled by transverse light-driven currents in the solid,and typically occurs on timescales of~500 attoseconds(with the slower femtosecond response suppressed).An experimental setup capable of measuring these dynamics through pump–probe transient absorption spectroscopy is *** results pave the way for attosecond regimes of manipulation of magnetism.

Large benthic foraminifera are an integral component of shallow-water tropical habitats and like many marine calcifiers,are susceptible to ocean acidification(OA)and ocean warming(OW).In particular,the prolific symbiodiniaceae-bearing and high-magnesium calcite Marginopora vertebralis has a low threshold compared to several diatom-bearing and low-magnesium calcite *** this multi-year mesocosm experiment,we tested three RPC 8.5 climate change scenarios(i)present day,(ii)the year 2050,and(iii)*** enable a realistic epiphytic association,these experiments were uniquely conducted using natural carbonate substrate,living calcifying alga,and *** contrast to previous studies,we detected no reduction in surface-area growth under future climate conditions compared with present day *** terms of calcification,***’epiphytic association to primary producers(i.e.,calcifying algae and seagrasses)potentially ameliorates the effects of OA by buffering against declines in boundary layer pH during periods of photosynthesis(i.e.,CO_(2)removal).Importantly for population maintenance,we observed a strong reduction in asexual fecundity under the 2100 *** propose the additional energy needed to maintain growth might be one reason for drastically reduced asexual *** alternative explanation could be that the 2℃temperature increase interfered with the environmental synchronization that triggered asexual multiple *** conclude that the low levels of reproduction will reduce populations in a high CO_(2)environment and reduce a valuable source of CaCO_(3) sediment production.

The study of disaster-specific leadership of female university students has been largely neglected,especially during on-campus emergency eviction and *** on the COVID-19-triggered,on-campus evictions across Canada and the United states,this cross-national partnership examined the out-of-province/state and international female university students’leadership during the entire eviction *** in-depth interviews,this study revealed the female university students’leadership behaviors during three stages:(1)pre-eviction:their self-preparedness formed an emotional foundation to support others;(2)peri-eviction:their attitude and leadership behavior enabled them to facilitate(psychologically and physically)their peers’eviction process;and(3)post-eviction:they continued to support their peers virtually and raised the general public’s awareness regarding the plight of vulnerable and marginalized *** article argues that the female university students’leadership that emerged during the eviction process became complementary to and even augmented the universities’official efforts and *** leadership represents empirical evidence that contributes to the existing literature on gender and leadership by demonstrating female youth as empowered stakeholders rather than as merely passive *** studies could develop detailed stratification of gender and age dimensions in order to portray a more comprehensive picture of the younger generation’s leadership in hazards and disaster research and practice.

Thyroid cancer(TC)is the most common malignancy of the endocrine system and has been rapidly increasing in incidence over the past few *** TCs metastasize quickly and often levy poor prognoses,as they are frequently resistant to first-line treatment *** diagnosed with aggressive,dedifferentiated TC have a prognosis of under a year with the most current treatment *** many cancers,TCs also exhibit altered cell metabolism,which enhances the cell’s ability to generate energy,protect against reactive oxygen species,and synthesize macromolecules such as lipids,proteins,and nucleotides for *** and enzyme profiling of TC tissues and cell lines have uncovered several dysregulated metabolic pathways such as glycolysis,the pentose phosphate pathway,glutamine metabolism,and pyrimidine *** aberrations are most often due to overexpression of rate-limiting enzymes or metabolite *** pathways pose attractive therapeutic targets in aggressive TC and may serve to work in tandem with standard therapeutics such as kinase inhibitors depending on the genetic,metabolic,and signaling backgrounds of individual *** studies are needed to clearly delineate altered metabolic targets across TC subtypes for implementing therapeutic metabolic inhibitors that have shown success in other aggressive tumors.

To characterize colorectal cancer (CRC) in octogenarians as compared with younger *** single-center, retrospective cohort study which included patients diagnosed with CRC at the age of 80 years or older between 2008-2013. A control group included consecutive patients younger than 80 years diagnosed with CRC during the same period. Clinicopathological characteristics, treatment and outcome were compared between the groups. Fisher’s exact test was used for dichotomous variables and χsup>2sup> was used for variables with more than two categories. Overall survival was assessed by Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, with the log-rank test. Cancer specific survival (Css) and disease-free survival were assessed by the Cox proportional hazards model, with the Fine and Gray correction for non-cancer death as a competing *** study included 350 patients, 175 patients in each group. Median follow-up was 40.2 mo (range 1.8-97.5). several significant differences were noted. Octogenarians had a higher proportion of Ashkenazi ethnicity (64.8% vs 47.9%, P sonal history of other malignancies (22.4% vs 13.7%, P = 0.035) and lower rates of family history of any cancer (36.6% vs 64.6%, P story of CRC (14.4% vs 27.3%, P = 0.006). CRC diagnosis by screening was less frequent in octogenarians (5.7% vs 20%, P sentation with performance status (Ps) of 0-1 was less common in octogenarians (71% vs 93.9%, P s were more likely to have tumors located in the right colon (45.7% vs 34.3%, P = 0.029) and had a lower prevalence of well differentiated histology (10.4% vs 19.3%, P = 0.025).
