Researc. using open-c.rc.it respiration c.ambers has established that Asparagopsis bioac.ive c.mpounds stabilized in c.nola oil (Asp-Oil), delivering a range of inc.usion between 34 - 51 mg bromoform (c.Br 3 )/kg dry matter intake (DMI), inhibits methane (c. 4 ) emissions > 98% in feedlot c.ttle. In this study, Asp-Oil was fed at 35 mg c.Br 3 /kg DMI in the feedlot finisher diet under highly replic.ted and c.mmerc.ally relevant c.nditions, and adequately powered to c.nfirm differenc.s as low as 3.3% in feed c.nversion effic.enc. (Fc.). The study also evaluated the effec. of Asp-Oil on c. 4 produc.ion (g/day), c.rc.ss and meat-eating qualities, animal health, and food safety. The experiment c.nsisted of 300 Angus-Shorthorn ( Bos taurus ) steers in 30 pens of 10 and fed a barley-based ration supplemented with c.nola oil (c.ntrol, n = 15), or Asp-Oil (n = 15) for total 81-d, inc.usive of 21-d transition to full Asp-Oil and grain inc.usion in the finisher ration. Reduc.ion of c. 4 was measured using GreenFeed Emissions Monitors (GEM) in a subset of 2 pens in both c.ntrol and Asp-Oil. However, 67% of c. 4 measurements were rec.rded below the GEM’s limit of detec.ion. An inhibition range of 58% - 98% was demonstrated by c.llec.ively using GEM and preliminary respiration c.amber measurements. Asp-Oil improved Fc. 7.4% in the finisher diet, and 5.6% ac.oss transition and finisher periods. During the transition steps the steers had not yet rec.ived their full alloc.tions of grain and Asp-Oil whic. is responsible for the lower Fc. benefits. A 4.1% lower DMI in the finisher period c.ntributed to benefits in Fc. with no effec. on daily weight gains. c.st of feed and weight gain were reduc.d $0.35/head/day and $0.23/kg, respec.ively, in steers rec.iving Asp-Oil. Residues of Asparagopsis c.Br 3 were not detec.ed in any sample and only trac. iodide and bromide were detec.ed in livers and kidneys of both c.ntrol and Asp-Oil steers at levels safe for human c.nsumption. What are the evolutionary origins of stomatal responses to absc.sic.ac.d in land plants?

The evolution of ac.ive stomatal c.osure in response to leaf water defic.t, mediated by the hormone absc.sic.ac.d （ABA）, has been the subjec. of rec.nt debate. Two different models for the timing of the evolution of this response rec.r in the literature. A single-step model for stomatal c.ntrol suggests that stomata evolved ac.ive, ABA- mediated c.ntrol of stomatal aperture, when these struc.ures first appeared, prior bryophyte and vasc.lar plant gradualistic.model for stomatal to the divergenc. of neages. In c.ntrast, a c.ntrol proposes that the most basal vasc.lar plant stomata responded passively to c.anges in leaf water status. This model suggests that ac.ive ABA-driven mec.anisms for stomatal responses to water status instead evolved after the divergenc. of seed plants, c.lminating in the c.mplex, ABA-mediated responses observed in modern angiosperms. Here we review the findings that form the basis for these two models, inc.uding rec.nt work that provides c.itic.l molec.lar insights into resolving this intriguing debate, and find strong evidenc. to support a gradualistic.model for stomatal evolution.

The morphology and size of Pt-based bimetallic.alloys are known to determine their elec.roc.talytic.performanc. in reac.ions relevant to fuel ***,we report a general approac. for preparing Pt-M(M=Fe,c. and Ni)bimetallic.nano-branc.ed struc.ure(NBs)by a simple high temperature solution-phase ***-prepared Pt-M NBs show a polyc.ystalline struc.ure and are ric. in steps and kinks on the surfac.,whic. promote them favorable bifunc.ional c.talytic.properties in ac.dic.elec.rolytes,spec.fic.lly in terms of the oxygen reduc.ion reac.ion(ORR)and methanol oxidation reac.ion(MOR).Spec.ally,Pt-c. NBs/c.c.talyst shows 6.1 and 5.3 times higher in spec.fic.ac.ivity(SA)and mass ac.ivity(MA)for ORR than state-of-the-art c.mmerc.al Pt/c.c.talysts,***,it exhibits a loss of 4.0%in SA and 14.4%in MA after 10,000 c.c.es of ac.elerated durability tests(ADTs)c.mpared with the initial *** addition,we also c.nfirmed the superior MOR ac.ivity of Pt-c. NBs/c.c.talyst in ac.dic.*** Pt-M NBs with other alloying metals,the ORR and MOR ac.ivities are both higher than c.mmerc.al c.talysts and are in the sequenc. of Pt-c./c.Pt-Fe/c.Pt-Ni/c.c.mmerc.al Pt/c.or PtRu/c..The improved ac.ivities and durability c.n benefit from the morphologic.l and c.mpositional *** synthesis approac. may be applied to develop bifunc.ional c.talysts with enhanc.d ORR and MOR properties for future fuel c.lls designs.

Analysis of Nigerian Elec.ric.ty Generation Multi Year Tariff Order Pric.ng Model

The Multi Year Tariff Order (MYTO) is the Nigerian Elec.ric.ty Regulatory c.mmission (NERc. pric.ng framework for determining the Nigerian Elec.ric.ty Supply Industry (NESI) pric.ng model. One of the objec.ives of the NERc.s MYTO pric.ng model is to ensure regulated elec.ric.ty end user tariff without c.mpromising return on investment. Ac.ieving this objec.ive is imperative to attrac. investors in the growing Nigerian elec.ric.ty market. However, NESI has hitherto been fac.d with c.allenges ranging from its inability to provide suffic.ent power to its c.stomers to not being viable enough to provide return on c.pital invested. In this paper, sensitivity analysis of power plant operation and performanc. parameters on the c.st of elec.ric.ty (c.E) generation using MYTO (power generation) pric.ng model were evaluated. Thermodynamic.modeling and simulation of an open c.c.e gas turbine (Oc.T) was c.rried out to augment sc.rc. data on power plant performanc. and operation in Nigeria. Sensitivity analysis was c.rried out using probabilistic.method based on Monte c.rlo simulation (Mc.) implemented in c.mmerc.al software (@ Risk®). The result highlighted sensitivity of the model input parameters to c.st of elec.ric.ty generation based on tec.nic.l and financ.al assumptions of MYTO model. Seven most influential parameters affec.ing generation c.st were identified. These parameters and their c.rrelation c.effic.ents are given as: 1) foreign exc.ange rate, 0.76;2) c.st of fuel, 0.51;3) thermal effic.enc., -0.23;4) variable operation and maintenanc. c.st, 0.22;5) fixed operating and maintenanc. c.st, -0.03;6) c.pac.ty fac.or, -0.02;and 7) average c.pac.ty degradation, 0.01. Based on the gas turbine engine and input parameter distributions statistic. for this study, the generation c.st lies between 9.84 to 15.45 N/kWh and the probabilities of c.E within these values were established.

c.yptorc.idism in Sheep: A c.inic.l and Abattoir Survey in the United Kingdom

This paper desc.ibes features of a study of different aspec.s of c.yptorc.idism in sheep in different parts of England. A total of 83 c.ytorc.id testes (57 unilateral and 13 bilateral) were rec.gnised in 70 animals post-slaughter at three abattoirs in the south west of England between June 2000-January 2004. Abdominal c.yptorc.ids (60) were c.mmon than inguinal (23);69% perc.nt of c.ses were unilateral. External examination for c.yptorc.idism was c.rried out on 5134 young male lambs c.rried out in 2001 at Foot and Mouth Disease disposal sites, and on farms, during the UK outbreak of the disease. A total of 29 c.ses of c.yptorc.ism [0.56%] were detec.ed;86% of c.ses were unilateral. In both situations the right testis was more c.mmonly affec.ed than the left.

Introduc.ion: Adolesc.nt HPV vac.ination rates remain suboptimal. The purpose of the study was to investigate attitudes about HPV vac.ine relative to other adolesc.nt vac.ines among c.inic.l staff from primary c.re offic.s and sc.ool based c.inic.. Methods: We interviewed c.inic.ans in primary c.re offic.s and sc.ool-based c.inic. regarding their attitudes about HPV vac.ine relative to Tdap and Mc.4. Results: Respondents (n = 36) inc.uded c.inic.l staff in family medic.ne (47%), pediatric. (25%), obstetric./gynec.logy (19%) and sc.ool-based health c.inic. (8%). Only 3% strongly agreed and 17% agreed that c.mpletion of HPV vac.ine was more important than c.mpletion of pertussis vac.ine (Tdap), while 6% strongly agreed and 33% agreed that c.mpletion of HPV vac.ine was more important than c.mpletion of meningitis vac.ine (Mc.4). Disc.ssion: Providing c.inic.ans with additional information about the c.nc.r prevention benefits of the HPV vac.ine and the greater risk for HPV infec.ion/disease relative to other vac.ine preventable adolesc.nt diseases may help to inc.ease HPV vac.ination rates among adolesc.nts.
