Thermal treatment either in the presence of oxygen (calcination) or of a reducing agent (reduction) result is all the time a key issue within the preparation of a catalyst. In this work, a microwave plasma treatment was chosen as an alternative to typical calcinations, because it is a more energy efficient process. Thus, a Microwave Fluidized Bed Plasma reactor (MFBP) was employed in catalyst synthesis process under different gas compositions, such as argon and argon/oxygen mixtures over g-alumina supported silver catalysts, which are generally used for selective reduction of NOx by ethanol. After the first catalytic tests performed in the presence of plasma treated catalyst, it can be concluded that plasma treatment process represents an interesting alternative to conventional calcination during catalyst synthesis, resulting in a more sustainable process, moreover in view of its industrial application. In order to understand the particular effect of plasma treatment, the catalysts submitted to this treatment were carefully characterized by means of thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and UV-VIS-NIR.

The wood polysaccharide composition, a new analytical method, based on ionic liquid dissolution of low amount of biomass coupled with an ELISA essay of polysaccharides. In the present work, we synthesized and tested several imidazolium and 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) based ILs for their ability to solubilize Douglas-fir wood while preserving the wall polymer integrity. The couple times-temperatures have been essayed for wood dissolution. Then their efficiency for wood biomass dissolution was compared to the impact of IL on storing and/or destroy polysaccharides. Thanks to the ELISA technique with a set of mAbs against epitopes of the main hemicellulose, pectin, and protein families of cell wall components. Wood destructuration at 80˚C with the 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide represents a good compromise of wood dissolution efficiency and low polysaccharide destruction.

CO2 methanation with Hydrogen to form CH4 offers a solution for off-peak renewable energy storage. γ-alumina-supported Mo and Ni-Mo catalysts were used in CO2 methanation, either in their reduced or in their carburized form. The presence of Ni improved the carburization extent of Mo-species, resulting in increased catalytic activity and selectivity for the catalytic CO2 methanation reaction. Carburization generally enhances the basicity of the materials and thus CO2 absorption on their surface. At 300°C, the conversions of CO2 for the reduced Ni-Mo/Al2O3 catalyst and Ni-Mo2C/Al2O3 catalysts were 5.3% and 13.8% respectively with a corresponding selectivity in CH4 of 10.0% and 98.1%, respectively.

The perceptions of fishers towards the Arrábida Marine Park,a marine protected area(MPA)in the west coast of Portugal,were studied through face-to-face interviews in two different moments of the MPA life ***'perceptions about the MPA and the impact it had on the fishing activity over time were identified just before the full implementation of the zoning and regulations of the management plan and 10 years *** study aimed to investigate fishers'knowledge,acceptance and perceptions about the MPA changed with time,if support for the MPA was linked to the impact of the MPA on the fishing activity,and if fishers'perceptions about the impact of the MPA on the fishing activity match with local landings *** show that although knowledge about the marine park significantly improved over time,fishers'acceptance did not.A decrease on fishers'support was not substantial but *** such as the disagreement with regulations reinforced concerns raised during the implementation of the marine park,particularly in relation to the top-down decision-making,which commonly confers minor participation,recognition and legitimacy to ***,fisheries benefits were still not perceived by local fishers,though they are central for fishers'***,the perceived negative impacts of the park seemed to be more related to social aspects and individual interests than to impacts on *** adequate management,enforcement and participation of local fishers is still possible and are advocated here as to contribute to the expected socioecological outcomes and respective support,leading to the future successful performance of the Arrábida Marine *** fishers’perceptions towards an MPA over time is central and should be included on periodical socioecological monitoring and inform an effective adaptive management.

The Lake Taabo (Ivory Coast, Africa) results of the construction of the Taabo dam on the Bandama River. The changes in the water level of the 69-km2 lake depend on 1) the rainfall linked to alternating dry/wet seasons;2) the extraction of water for human uses;3) the discharge of water from the upstream dam and the volumes turbined by the Kossou dam;4) the various anthropic effects (discharge of untreated waste water from towns and industries, and leaching from agricultural land). The average concentrations of nutrients (NH4-N: 1.1 mg/L, NO3-N: 1.62 mg/L, PO4-P: 10 mg/L, SiO2: 15 mg/L) and chlo- rophyll a (from 4.8 to 16.5 μg/L, average 11.4 μg/L) indicates some degree of eutrophication. The cumulated effects that threaten the ecosystem (degradation of water quality and eutrophication) are such that they are likely to interfere with various water uses. In a context of growing health and environmental concerns in Africa, this study demonstrates conflicts between different uses of this water resource and the urgent need for an appropriate policy including specific monitoring of lake water quality, wastewater control, and a programme to reduce agricultural fertilizers.

1,8-cineole, also known as eucalyptol, is the main constituent and the most important of the leaf oils of many species of the genus Eucalyptus. In present study, the essential oils isolated by hydrodistillation from the leaves of Eucalyptus camaldulensis from six different locations were analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS. Essential oil yields ranged from 0.33% to 4.35%. In total, 34 constituents were identified, accounting for 94.0% to 99.8% of the total compositions. 1,8-cineole (46.4% - 84.4%) was the main constituent of all the essential oil samples, except for one sample collected in the Fatick region, which had p-cymene (46.4%) and 1,8-cineole (26.0%) as major compounds. The essential oil showed excellent activity against S. aureus, E. coli and E. faecalis (IZ = 25.3 ± 1.2 mm;18.7 ± 0.6 mm;17.8 ± 0.3 mm, respectively) and moderate activity against P. aeruginosa (IZ = 10.8 ± 0.8 mm). They may have potential applications in food and pharmaceutical products.

AIM： To evaluate the role of N-myc downstream- regulated gene 1 （NDRG1） expression in prognosis and survival of colorectal cancer patients with different ethnic backgrounds. METHODS： Because NDRG1 is a downstream target of p53 and hypoxia inducible factor-1α （HIF-1α）, we examined NDRG1 expression together with p53 and HIF-1α by irnmunohistochernistry. A total of 157 colorectal cancer specimens including 80 from Japanese patients and 77 from US patients were examined. The correlation between protein expression with clinicopathological features and survival after surgery was analyzed. RESULTS： NDRG1 protein was significantly increased in colorectal tumor compared with normal epithelium in both Japanese and US patient groups. Expression of NDRG1 protein was significantly correlated with lymphatic invasion, venous invasion, depth of invasion, histopathological type, and Dukes＇ stage in Japanese colorectal cancer patients. NDRG1 expression was correlated to histopathological type, Dukes＇ stage and HIF-1α expression in US-Caucasian patients but not in US-African American patients. Interestingly, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis demonstrated that NDRG1 expression correlated significantly with poorer survival in US-African American patients but not in other patient groups. However, in p53-positive US cases, NDRG1 positivity correlated significantly with better survival. In addition, NDRG1 expression also correlated significantly with improved survival in US patients with stages Ⅲ and IV tumors without chemotherapy. In Japanese patients with stages Ⅱ and Ⅲ tumors, strong NDRG1 staining in p53- positive tumors correlated significantly with improved survival but negatively in patients without chemotherapy. CONCLUSION： NDRG1 expression was correlated with various clinicopathological features and clinical outcomes in colorectal cancer depending on the race/ethnicity of the patients.
