This work studies large deflections of slen- der, non-prismatic cantilever beams subjected to a combined loading which consists of a non-uniformly distributed con- tinuous load and a concentrated load at the free end of the beam. The material of the cantilever is assumed to be non- linearly elastic. Different nonlinear relations between stress and strain in tensile and compressive domain are considered. The accuracy of numerical solutions is evaluated by com- paring them with results from previous studies and with a laboratory experiment.

Making use of the traditional Caputo derivative and the newly introduced Caputo-Fabrizio deriva- tive with fractional order and no singular kernel, we extent the nonlinear Kaup-Kupershmidt to the span of fractional calculus. In the analysis, different methods of fixed-point theorem together with the concept of piccard L-stability are used, allowing us to present the existence and uniqueness of the exact solution to models with both versions of derivatives. Finally, we present techniques to perform some numerical simulations for both non-linear models and graphical simulations are provided for values of the order α = 1.00; 0.90. Solutions are shown to behave similarly to the standard well-known traveling wave solution of Kaup-Kupershmidt equation.

Neurogranin (Ng) and its role as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) biomarker: Ng is a calmodulin-binding protein mainly expressed in cerebral structures such as the cortex,hippocampus and *** is mainly located in the dendritic processes,particularly in post-synaptic compartments,but also in the cytosolic compartment,being likely involved in the regulation of the intracellular calcium-calmodulin signaling pathway (Represa et al.,1990).In the last decade,a plethora of studies have demonstrated that cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Ng is increased in AD patients and in individuals with an ADlike CSF profile (Kester et al.,2015a).This increase seems to be disease-specific because other neurodegenerative conditions including frontotemporal dementia,Lewy body dementia,Parkinson’s disease,progressive supranuclear palsy,multiple system atrophy or Huntington’s disease,present CSF Ng concentrations similar to controls (Wellington et al.,2016).Ng levels in CSF appear to be elevated in mild cognitive impairment (MCI)-affected individuals who progress to AD and are highly related to memory and cognitive function (Kester et al.,2015a;Tarawneh et al.,2016),which indicates that this protein may serve as an early AD biomarker with diagnostic utility in pre-dementia disease stages,and with prognostic utility to predict cognitive decline and MCI-to-AD conversion.

Dissolved organic matter （DOM） concentrations have been measured in the waters of a semiarid freshwater wetland, the Tablas de Daimiel, Spain, when the system-characterised by variable hydroperiodicity conditions, was completely flooded （February 2011）. Fluxes of DOM from the wetland soils to the overlying waters were measured by using a passive diffusion sampler （peeper）. Not only dissolved organic carbon （DOC） concentrations were measured but refractory organic matter （ROM, usually known as humic substances） was also quantified using a novel voltammetric method. Fluorescence spectra were recorded to help in selecting the appropriate standard for ROM quantification, test the homogeneity of DOM in the waters and get an indication of their source. The results obtained show a 7-fold increase in measured ROM concentrations from the Gigtiela River to the outlet, which points to a net exportation of ROM from the wetland and to the existence of an internal source of ROM in the system, probably diffusion from the wetland soils. This hypothesis is confirmed by the flux of ROM from the soils to the water column measured with the peeper and by the common fluorescence characteristics of colunm and interstitial waters. The smaller increase in DOC concentrations along the wetland, in spite of the higher DOC fluxes from soils, suggests that there is significant turnover of organic carbon （OC） in the water column. The system acts as a major carbon sink but, when flooded, exports .OC as DOM.

Municipal wastewaters are major sources of pollution for the aquatic biota. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of some pharmaceutical products and the immunotoxic potential of a municipal wastewater aeration lagoon for the treatment of the domestic wastewaters of a small town with wastewater inputs from a 400-bed hospital complex. Endemic mussels were collected, caged and placed in the final aeration lagoon and at sites 1 km upstream and 1 km downstream of the effluent outfall in the receiving river for a period of 14 days. The results showed that the final aeration lagoon contained high levels of total coliforms, conductivity and low dissolved oxygen （2.9 mg/L） as well as detectable amounts of trimethoprim, carbamazepine, gemfibrozil, and norfloxacin at concentrations exceeding 50 ng/L. The lagoon effluent was indeed toxic to the mussel specimens, as evidenced by the appearance of mortality after 14 days （10% mortality）, decreased mussel weight-to-shell-length ratio and loss of hemocyte viability. The number of adhering hemocytes, phagocytic activity, total nitrite levels and arachidonic cyclooxygenase activity were significantly higher in mussels placed in the final aeration lagoon. A multivariate analysis also revealed that water pH, conductivity, total coliforms and dissolved oxygen were the endpoints most closely linked with phagocytic activity, the amount of adhering hemocytes and loss of hemocyte viability. In conclusion, exposure of mussels to treated aerated lagoon wastewater is deleterious to freshwater mussels where the immune system is compromised.

Free chloride ions dissolved in pore water of cement based materials initiate the corrosion of steel rebars used for reinforcement of concrete and thus pose serious constant danger to the safety of reinforced concrete *** in-situ monitoring of the content of chlorides in pore water with second order Ag/AgCl electrodes is an elegant approach which, however,suffers from poor stability of Ag/AgCl electrodes in highly alkaline environment like pore *** this work the electrochemical stability of plain and stabilized electrodeposited Ag/AgCl sensors in extreme alkaline conditions are presented. The electrochemical processes were elucidated which govern the potentiometric response of Ag/AgCl sensors and determine their *** results have shown suitable stability and reproducibility of stabilized Ag/AgCl sensors over five months, which was sufficient for laboratory testing of chloride ingress into cement based *** embedded calibrated sensor elements were used to monitor the chloride uptake into cylindrical mortar specimen dipped into simulated pore water containing about 3 wt% of chloride *** velocity of diffusing front and the diffusion coefficient of chloride ions in pore water of cylindrical mortar sample were estimated from concentration-time profiles determined by chloride sensors positioned at defined positions in the sample wall.

Modern embedded systems tend to use multiple cores or processors for processing parallel applications. This paper indeed aims at task scheduling with communication contention for parallel embedded systems and proposes three advanced techniques to improve the list scheduling heuristic. Five groups of node levels (two existing groups and three new groups) are firstly used as node priorities to generate node lists. Then the critical child technique improves the selection of a processor in the scheduling process. Finally, the communication delay technique enlarges the idle time intervals on communication links. We also propose an advanced dynamic list scheduling heuristic by combining the three techniques. Experimental results show that the combined advanced dynamic heuristic is efficient to shorten the schedule length for most of the randomly generated DAGs in the cases of medium and high communication. Our method accelerates an application up to 80% in the case of high communication and can also reduce the use of hardware resources.
