The accuracy assessment in areal interpolation:An empirical investigation

Areal interpolation is the process of transferring data from source zones to target zones. While method development remains a top research priority in areal interpo-lation,the accuracy assessment aspect also begs for attention. This paper reports an empirical experience on probing an areal interpolation method to highlight the power and potential pitfalls in accuracy assessment. A kriging-based interpolation algorithm is evaluated by several approaches. It is found that accuracy assessment is a powerful tool to understand an interpolation method,e.g. the utility of ancillary data and semi-variogram modeling in kriging in our case study. However,different assessment methods and spatial units on which assessment is conducted can lead to rather different results. The typical practice to assess accuracy at the source zone level may overestimate interpolation accuracy. Assessment at the target zone level is suggested as a supplement.

Comparative voltammetry and differential double-layer capacitance studies were performed to evaluate interfacial interactions between cnalcopyrite（CuFeS2） and n-isopropyl xanthate（X） in the presence of ammonium bisulfite/39wt%SO2 and caustic starch at different pH *** spectroscopy,Fourier transform infrared（FTIR） spectroscopy,contact angle measurements,and microflotation tests were used to establish the type and extent of xanthate adsorption as well as the species involved under different mineral surface conditions in this *** results demonstrate that the species that favor a greater hydrophobicity of chalcopyrite are primarily CuX and S^0,whereas oxides and hydroxides of Cu and Fe as well as an excess of starch decrease the hydrophobicity.A conditioning of the mineral surface with ammonium bisulfite/39wt%SO2 at pH 6 promotes the activation of surface and enhances the xanthate ***,this effect is diminished at pH ≥ 8,when an excess of starch is added during the preconditioning step.

Removing contaminants from tannery wastewater by chemical precipitation using caO and ca(OH)2

The removal of Cr,sulfates and Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD)from industrial tannery wastewater by chemical precipitation was carried out using calcium oxide(caO)and calcium hydroxide(ca(OH)2).Different doses of alkalis,ranging from deficiency to excess hydroxyl species over the stoichiometric necessary,were used to remove theoretically the 100%of Cr[0.3-3.2 g alkali·(g Cr^3+)^-1].The precipitation was carried out at room temperature,10 min of vigorous stirring,200 r·min^-1 and a settling time of 24 h,followed by separation and characterization of liquid *** result of addition of alkalis,pH underwent increase as did the alkali *** removal of Cr,and sulfates also increased as alkali concentration did,although for first species the changes at higher alkali contents were less *** removal on the other hand,did not follow a unique trend,instead exhibited a *** on our results,selection of a specific dose of alkali was carried out taking as reference the efficiency on total chromium removal,keeping the pH in the range 7 to 9 to ensure Cr precipitation as chromium *** those conditions,jar test was used to produce enough liquid product in order to determine the removal percent of several other *** removal percent of the species was as follows:Cr,SO4^2-,ZnSO4,FeSO4,CN^-1,NiSO4,Fe2[Fe(CN)6]at 99.8%,66.9%,99.6%,21.4%,70.9%,52.8%and 76.4%with caO,and 99.8%,61.6%,99.9%,7.1%,84.0%,54.4%and 90.5%with ca(OH)2,respectively.

Overall Survival and Health care Costs of Medicare Patients with Previously Treated Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Background: Bendamustine-based regimens are often used in the management of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) but few studies have analyzed the comorbidity- and/or adverse event (caE)-related healthcare costs in patients receiving these regimens in a real-world setting. Aims: To describe all-cause and caE-related healthcare costs in relapse/refractory (R/R) elderly patients with CLL treated with bendamustine-based regimens in a real-world setting. Methods: Adult patients with R/R CLL who received bendamustine-based regimens on/after January 2010 were selected from the Medicare Limited Data Set (LDS) 5% Standard Analytic Files. Selected patients were classified into cohorts based on the two most prevalent bendamustine-based regimens observed (index treatment): 1) bendamustine + rituximab (BR cohort) and 2) bendamustine monotherapy (B-mono cohort). For each cohort, all-cause and caE-related healthcare costs, while on treatment, were reported per-patient-per-month (PPPM). Overall survival (OS) rates following initiation of the index treatment were described using age- and gender-adjusted Kaplan-Meier curves. Results: A total of 275 patients were included in the BR cohort and 100 patients in the B-mono cohort. Most patients were male and the mean age was approximately 75 years old. During treatment, total all-cause healthcare costs were $14,520 PPPM for the BR cohort and $13,125 PPPM for the B-mono cohort—outpatient costs (mainly driven by CLL-drug costs) represented 86.1% of the total all-cause healthcare costs for the BR cohort and 69.8% for the B-mono cohort. caE costs accounted for 58.3% of the total all-cause healthcare costs for the BR cohort and 66.9% for the B-mono cohort. Median OS was 35 months in the BR cohort and 21 months in the B-mono cohort. Conclusion: In this population of elderly patients with R/R CLL treated with bendamustine-based regimens, caEs were common and translated into important medical costs. Structural Changes in Human Teeth after Heating up to 1200°C in Argon Atmosphere

The phase transformation of hydroxyapatite (HAP, ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) to the beta tricalcium phosphate phase (β-TCP, β-ca3(PO4)2) at 1100°C is well known. However, in the case of human tooth, the HAP phase transformation is still an open area. For example, the caO phase has sometimes been reported in the set of phases that make up the teeth. In this study, physical changes of human teeth when subjected to heat treatment in inert atmosphere (argon) were studied. The results were compared with those obtained in air atmosphere, from room temperature (25°C) up to 1200°C. Morphological changes were analyzed by light and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The HAP to β-TCP phase transformation was followed in powder samples by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Heating of teeth results in the removal of organic material and structural water before the HAP to β-TCP phase transformation, the increment in hardness and the induced crystal growth. The percentage of the phases, crystal growth and lattice parameter variations as a function of temperature was quantified by Rietveld analysis. The black color was observed in dentin heated under argon atmosphere. Differences in expansivity produce fractures in dentin at 300°C in argon and at 400°C in air. In dentin, the coexistence of the HAP and β-TCP phases was observed after 800°C in argon and after 600°C in air;in enamel it was observed at 600°C in argon compared with 400°C in air. In general, the role played by the argon atmosphere during the thermal treatment of the teeth is to retard the processes observed in air.
