Yeasts,usually defined as unicellular fungi,occur in various fungal ***,they are not a taxonomic unit,but rather represent a fungal lifestyle shared by several unrelated *** the discovery of new yeast species occurs at an increasing speed,at the current rate it will likely take hundreds of years,if ever,before they will all be *** parts of the earth,including many threatened habitats,remain unsampled for yeasts and many others are only superficially *** habitats,such as glaciers,are home to a specific community of cold-adapted yeasts,and,hence,there is some urgency to study such environments at locations where they might disappear soon due to anthropogenic climate *** same is true for yeast communities in various natural forests that are impacted by deforestation and forest *** countries of the so-called Global South have not been sampled for yeasts,despite their economic ***,extensive research activity in Asia,especially China,has yielded many taxonomic *** genomics stud-ies have demonstrated the presence of yeast species with a hybrid origin,many of them isolated from clinical or industrial ***-metabarcoding studies have demonstrated the prevalence,and in some cases dominance,of yeast species in soils and marine waters worldwide,including some surprising distributions,such as the unexpected and likely common presence of Malassezia yeasts in marine habitats.

This paper investigates the problem of controlling half-vehicle semi-active suspension system involving a magnetorheological(MR)*** features a hysteretic behavior that is presently captured through the nonlinear Bouc-Wen *** control objective is to regulate well the heave and the pitch motions of the chassis despite the road *** difficulty of the control problem lies in the nonlinearity of the system model,the uncertainty of some of its parameters,and the inaccessibility to measurements of the hysteresis internal state *** Lyapunov control design tools,we design two observers to get online estimates of the hysteresis internal states and a stabilizing adaptive state-feedback *** whole adaptive controller is formally shown to meet the desired control *** theoretical result is confirmed by several simulations demonstrating the supremacy of the latter compared to the skyhook control and passive suspension.

Adaptive neural network observer for proton-exchange membrane fuel cell system

This paper develops an adaptive neural network(NN)observer for proton-exchange membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs).Indeed,information on the oxygen excess ratio(OER)value is crucial to ensure optimal management of the durability and reliability of the *** OER indicator is computed from the mass of oxygen and nitrogen inside the PEMFC ***,the measurement process of both these masses is difficult and *** solve this problem,the design of a PEMFC state observer is ***,the behaviour of the fuel cell system is highly non-linear and its modelling is *** to this constraint,a multilayer perceptron neural network(MLPNN)-based observer is proposed in this paper to estimate the oxygen and nitrogen *** notable advantage of the suggested MLPNN observer is that it does not require a database to train the ***,the weights of the NN are updated in real time using the output *** addition,the observer parameters,namely the learning rate and the damping factor,are online adapted using the optimization tools of extremum ***,the proposed observer stability analysis is performed using the Lyapunov *** observer performances are validated by simulation under MATLAB®/Simulink®.The supremacy of the proposed adaptive MLPNN observer is highlighted by comparison with a fixed-parameter MLPNN observer and a classical high-gain observer(HGO).The mean rela-tive error value of the excess oxygen rate is considered the performance index,which is equal to 1.01%for an adaptive MLPNN and 3.95%and 9.95%for a fixed MLPNN and HGO,***,a robustness test of the proposed observer with respect to measurement noise is performed.

Designing high-gain observers(HGOs)for the state estimation of an electric vehicle’s electrohydraulic brake(EHB)system is *** type of observer is applicable to model nonlinearities and constant feature ***,they are very sensitive to measurement noise,which is unavoidable in *** first novelty of this study is that it compensates for the measurement noise using a filtered high-gain observer(FHGO)to ensure EHB state *** proposed FHGO provides an estimate of the master cylinder pressure,motor current,and rotor speed from measurements of the rotor *** second novelty is the design of an extremum-seeking(ES)optimization loop to adjust the FHGO gains *** performance of the developed FHGO with ES-based online gain optimization was highlighted in the presence of model uncertainties and output measurement noise using a Matlab/Simulink *** superiority of the FHGO(even with a fixed gain)over a standard high gain observer(SHGO)was also demonstrated.

Impact of the injected water salinity on oil recovery from sandstone formations:Application in an Egyptian oil reservoir

In the last decade,there has been an increasing interest in understanding the effects of changing injected water salinity on the performance of oil *** paper aims to investigate the effects of injected water salinity on oil recovery of an Egyptian oil reservoir(Bahariya formation).An experimental work program has been performed using 25 core plugs and 5 different water salinities to study the effects of changing water salinity during both secondary and tertiary stages of *** objectives of the experimental work were to(1)investigate the effects of the low water salinity on oil recovery and(2)identify the optimum water salinity and the main reservoir parameters for application of low salinity waterflooding project(LSWF)in Bahariya *** results revealed that there is an optimum salinity for waterflooding in the secondary flooding ***,for the tertiary flooding stage,the results showed that the controlling factor is not decreasing the salinity,but rather changing the salinity(*** increasing or decreasing).It was also clear that applying the optimum salinity in the secondary recovery stage is more effective than applying it in the tertiary recovery ***,the results showed that the positive impact of LSWF may be expected in reservoirs with high amount of kaolinite,high values of CEC,and low amounts of plagioclase *** study is an original contribution to develop guidelines for designing optimum salinity waterflooding projects in sandstone reservoirs.

Comparative study on yields and quality parameters of argan oils extracted by conventional and green extraction techniques

Argan oil is most frequently sold as pure oil,which can be directly applied topically due to its cosmetological proprieties or ingested in order to provide several health ***'s also commonly mixed into a number of cosmetic products like shampoos,soaps and *** this study we aimed to improve the argan oil extraction yield and quality parameters by comparing the effects of different extraction *** kernel oils were extracted using four methods:mechanical cold press,Soxhlet extraction with n-hexane,supercritical fluid extraction(SFE),and enzyme assisted extraction with three different enzyme solutions cellulase(cellulast),pectinase(Pectinex)and a mixture of carbohydrase enzymes(Viscozyme®).The quality parameters was evaluated by determining the acid,peroxide and iodine values aswell as the extinction coefficients K_(232) and K_(270) as measures of conjugated dienes and trienes,*** results showed that the highest yield(66.37%±3.3%)was obtained by enzyme assisted extraction using the carbohydrases enzymes mixture(Viscozyme®),followed by Soxhlet extraction(59.5%±3.1%)and pectinase extraction(52.03%±3.55%).All argan oils samples obtained by the different methods showed a good oxidation stability,with acid,peroxide and iodine values lower than 0.8 mg/g,15 meq/kg and 110 g/100 g according to the official argan oil norm,*** results of argan oils quality parameters demonstrated that the enzyme extracted argan oils showed low oxidation,with the following quality parameters:acid values(0.4-0.6 mg/g),iodine values(95-100 g/100 g),dienes(K_(232)eld without affecting the oil *** enzyme extraction method may be a great alternative to solvent and cold press extractions for this eco-friendly processing approach.

Role of the injected water salinity and ion concentrations on the oil recovery in carbonate reservoirs

Low salinity water flooding(LSWF)was initially considered using water with a low concentration of dissolved salts and was later extended to include modifying the ionic content of injected *** work investigates the effects of changing water salinity and composition along with the concentration of sulfate and iodide ions on oil recovery in carbonate reservoirs during the tertiary recovery *** experimental study was carried out using crude oil of 29°API,8 core samples extracted from the Eocene carbonate reservoir(Egypt),and 6 different water *** results showed additional oil recovery up to 5%of the original oil in place(OOIP)in the tertiary recovery stage with changing water salinity and water *** of high salinity(HS)and low salinity(LS)brines with high sulfate concentrations increased the incremental oil recovery by a value ranging from 1.7 to 3.8%of the *** the contrary,injection of HS and LS brines with low sulfate concentrations showed insignificant incremental oil recovery(less than 1%of the OOIP).Furthermore,injection of water with potassium iodide(KI)after injection of water with high sulfate brines showed additional oil recovery of about 1.7%of the *** the other hand,injection of water with KI after injection of water with low sulfate concentration showed insignificant incremental oil recovery(less than 0.4%of the OOIP).The concentration of sulfate in the injected water appeared to be key parameter to achieve effective waterflooding(WF)projects in carbonate ***,the results revealed that the multi-component ion exchange(MIE)mechanism seems to be the primary recovery mechanism for LSWF in carbonate *** results and conclusions of this study can be used to develop guidelines for designing waterflooding projects in carbonate reservoirs with optimum salinity.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had drastic effects on societies around the *** to restrictions or recom-mendations,companies,industries and residents experienced changes in their routines and many people shifted to working from *** led to alterations in electricity consumption between sectors and changes in daily *** how various properties and features of load patterns in the electricity network were affected is important for forecasting the network’s ability to respond to sudden changes and shocks,and helping system operators improve network management and *** this study,we quantify the extent to which the COVID-19 pandemic has led to shifts in the electricity consumption patterns of different sectors in *** results show that working from home during the pandemic has led to an increase in the residential sector’s total consumption and changes in its consumption patterns,whereas there were only slight decreases in the industrial sector and relatively few changes in the public and commercial *** discuss the reasons for these changes,the effects that these changes will have on expected future electricity consumption patterns,as well as the effects on potential demand flexibility in a future where working from home has become the new norm.

Flow cytometric detection of hepatitis C virus antigens in infected peripheral blood leukocytes: Binding and entry

AIM： We designed two synthetic-core-specific peptides core 1 （C1） and core 2 （C2）, and an E1-specific peptide （el）. We produced specific polyclonal antibodies against these peptides and used the antibodies for detection of HCV antigens on surface and within infected peripheral blood leukocytes. METHODS： Peripheral blood from a healthy individual who tested negative for HCV RNA was incubated with HCV type 4 infected serum for i h and 24 h at 37 ℃. Cells were stained by direct and indirect immunofluorescence and measured by flow cytometry. RESULTS： After 1 h of incubation, antibodies against C1, C2, and el detected HCV antigens on the surface of 27%, 26% and 73% of monocytes respectively, while 10%, 5% and 9% of lymphocytes were positive with anti-C1, anti-C2 and anti-E1 respectively. Only 1-3% of granulocytes showed positive staining with anti-C1, anti-C2 and anti E1 antibodies. After 24 h of incubation, we found no surface staining with anti-C1, anti-C2 or anti-E1. Direct immunostaining using anti-C2 could not detect intracellular HCV antigens, after 1 h of incubation with the virus, while after 24 h of incubation, 28% of infected cells showed positive staining. Only plus strand RNA was detectable intracellularly as early as 1 h after incubation, and remained detectable throughout 48 h post-infection. Interestingly, minus RNA strand could not be detected after 1 h, but became strongly detectable intracellularly after 24 h post-infection. CONCLUSION： Monocytes and lymphocytes are the preferred target cells for HCV infection in peripheral blood leukocytes. Our specific anti-core and anti-E1 antibodies are valuable reagents for demonstration of HCV cell cycle. Also, HCV is capable of infecting and replicating in peripheral blood mononuclear cells as confirmed by detection of minus strand HCV RNA as well as intracellular staining of core HCV antigen.
