Brain macrophages include microglia in the parenchyma,border-associated macrophages in the meningeal-choroid plexus-perivascular space,and monocyte-derived macrophages that infiltrate the brain under various disease *** vast heterogeneity of these cells has been elucidated over the last decade using revolutionary multiomics *** such,we can now start to define these various macrophage populations according to their ontogeny and their diverse functional programs during brain development,homeostasis and disease *** this review,we first outline the critical roles played by brain macrophages during development and healthy *** then discuss how brain macrophages might undergo reprogramming and contribute to neurodegenerative disorders,autoimmune diseases,and ***,we speculate about the most recent and ongoing discoveries that are prompting translational attempts to leverage brain macrophages as prognostic markers or therapeutic targets for diseases that affect the brain.

Macrophages are critical regulators of tissue homeostasis but are also abundant in the tumor microenvironment (TME). In bothprimary tumors and metastases, such tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) seem to support tumor development. While we knowthat TAMs are the dominant immune cells in the TME, their vast heterogeneity and associated functions are only just beingunraveled. In this review, we outline the various known TAM populations found thus far and delineate their specialized rolesassociated with the main stages of cancer progression. We discuss how macrophages may prime the premetastatic niche to enablethe growth of a metastasis and then how subsequent metastasis-associated macrophages can support secondary tumor ***, we speculate on the challenges that remain to be overcome in TAM research.

Numerical modeling of bedload and suspended load contributions to morphological evolution of the Seine Estuary(France)

This numerical modeling study(i) assesses the influence of the sediment erosion process on the sediment dynamics and subsequent morphological changes of a mixed-sediment environment, the macrotidal Seine estuary, when non-cohesive particles are dominant within bed mixtures(non-cohesive regime), and(ii) investigates respective contributions of bedload and suspended load in these dynamics.A three dimensional(3 D) process-based morphodynamic model was set up and run under realistic forcings(including tide, waves, wind, and river discharge) during a 1-year period. Applying erosion homogeneously to bed sediment in the non-cohesive regime, i.e., average erosion parameters in the erosion law(especially the erodibility parameter, E0), leads to higher resuspension of fine sediment due to the presence of coarser fractions within mixtures, compared to the case of an independent treatment of erosion for each sediment class. This results in more pronounced horizontal sediment flux(two-fold increase for sand, +30% for mud) and erosion/deposition patterns(up to a two-fold increase in erosion over shoals, generally associated with some coarsening of bed sediment). Compared to observed bathymetric changes, more relevant erosion/deposition patterns are derived from the model when independent resuspension fluxes are considered in the non-cohesive regime. These results suggest that this kind of approach may be more relevant when local grain-size distributions become heterogeneous and multimodal for non-cohesive particles. Bedload transport appears to be a non-dominant but significant contributor to the sediment dynamics of the Seine Estuary mouth. The residual bedload flux represents, on average, between 17 and 38% of the suspended sand flux, its contribution generally increasing when bed sediment becomes coarser(can become dominant at specific locations). In this paper, the synthesis of Ti_3 SiC_2 from SiC/Ti powder using reactive spark plasma sintering(R-SPS) in the temperature range of 1300-1400 ℃ is reported. The results show that the purity of Ti_3 SiC_2 is improved up to 75 wt% when the holding time is increased from 10 to 20 min at1400 ℃. The thermodynamic and experimental results indicate that Ti_3 SiC_2 formation takes place via the reaction of a pre-formed TiC phase with the silicides, formed from the eutectic *** analysis of mechanical behaviour indicates that samples with higher percentage of secondary phases exhibit higher microhardness and better resistance compared to the near single phase Ti_3 SiC_2.

The computational simulation of the manufacturing process of lithium-ion battery composite electrodes based on mechanistic models allows capturing the influence of manufacturing parameters on electrode ***,ensuring that these properties match with experimental data is typically computationally *** this work,we tackled this costly procedure by proposing a functional data-driven framework,aiming first to retrieve the early numerical values calculated from a molecular dynamics simulation to predict if the observable being calculated is prone to match with our range of experimental values,and in a second step,recover additional values of the ongoing simulation to predict its final *** demonstrated this approach in the context of the calculation of electrode slurries *** report that for various electrode chemistries,the expected mechanistic simulation results can be obtained 11 times faster with respect to the complete simulations,while being accurate with a R^(2)_(score) equals to 0.96.
