Extension of Flow Behaviour and Damage Models for Cast Iron Alloys with strain Rate Effect

Cast iron alloys with low production cost and quite good mechanical properties are widely used in the automotive *** study the mechanical behavior of a typical ductile cast iron(GJs-450)with nodular graphite,uni-axial quasi-static and dynamic tensile tests at strain rates of 10^(-4),1,10,100,and 250 s^(-1)were carried *** order to investigate the influence of stress state on the deformation and fracture parameters,specimens with various geometries were used in the *** strain curves and fracture strains of the GJs-450 alloy in the strain rate range of 10^(-4)to 250 s^(-1)were obtained.A strain rate-dependent plastic flow model was proposed to describe the mechanical behavior in the corresponding strain-rate *** available damage model was extended to take the strain rate into account and calibrated based on the analysis of local fracture *** with the proposed plastic flow model and the damage model were conducted to observe the deformation and fracture *** results show that the strain rate has obviously nonlinear effects on the yield stress and fracture strain of GJs-450 *** predictions with the proposed plastic flow and damage models at various strain rates agree well with the experimental results,which illustrates that the rate-dependent plastic flow and damage models can be used to describe the mechanical behavior of cast iron alloys at elevated strain *** proposed plastic flow and damage models can be used to describe the deformation and fracture analysis of materials with similar properties.

Retinal manifestations of patients with human immun- odeficiency virus, a multiethnics study in Malaysia

· AIM: To investigate the fundus findings of patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in correlation to Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) and CD4 count. · METHODs: Two hundred and two patients of the three major races (Chinese, Malay and Indian) in Malaysia were recruited in this population-based cross-sectional study. This consisted of confirmed HIV sero-positive patients with HAART treatment (n=95) or without HAART therapy (n=107) from December 2007 to March 2008. They were further classified into the HIV infected group, AIDs related complex (ARC) group and AIDs group. Each group was then subdivided according to their CD4 count. Clinical fundus findings were recorded. · REsULTs: sixty six patients (32.7%) showed presence of fundus manifestation, majority of which was HIV microangiopathy (89%) and the rest being Cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis (11%). The most common fundus lesion was cotton wool spot (34%). There was a higher incidence of fundus manifestation in the non HAART group than the HAART group (P =0.04) and in patients with CD4 count less than 200 cells/ml in both groups (P =0.01). The HAART therapy had remarkably reduced the percentage of fundus manifestation by 20% but CD4 count remains the marker for fundus manifestations. There were no significant differences noted in the retinal manifestation among the different races. (ANOVA, P =0.25). · CONCLUsION: The fundus manifestations were higher in patients with CD4s/ml and in the non HAART group. Hence the HAART therapy is capable of reducing the incidence of fundus manifestations, however the CD4 count determines the occurrence of fundus manifestations. ·

Deformation characteristics of granitic rocks in Erguna ductile shear zone,NE China

The Erguna ductile shear zone is situated in the Erguna Massif,which has been exposed along the eastern bank of the Erguna River in northeastern *** authors present comprehensive study results on the macro-and micro-structures,finite strain and kinematic vorticity,quartz electron backscatter diffraction(EBsD)fabrics,and geochronology of granitic rocks in the Erguna ductile shear *** deformed granitic rocks have experienced significant sE-trending dextral strike-slip *** strain and kinematic vorticity in all deformed granitic rocks indicate that the deformation is characterized by simple sheardominated general shearing with s-L *** deformation behaviors and quartz C-axis textures demonstrate that the deformed granitic rocks developed under greenschist to amphibolite facies conditions at deformation temperatures ranging from 450 to 550℃.New LA-ICP-Ms zircon U-Pb ages indicate that these granitic rocks were formed in Early Triassic(~248.6 Ma)and Early Cretaceous(~136.7 Ma).All the evidence indicates that this deformation may have occurred in Early Cretaceous and was related to the compression resulting from the final closure of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean.

Pneumonia, a respiratory infection induces acute or chronic inflammation, characterized by increased activity of lymphocytes and neutrophils, thus generating oxygen-free radicals that decrease the endogenous antioxidants defence system. The aim of this experimental study focused on the capacity of nontoxic aqueous, hydroethanolic and ethanolic extracts of Greenwayodendron suaveolens (Engl. & Diels) Verdc. subsp. suaveolens to regulate free reactive species and protein inflammation generated by infectious disease. The phytochemical screenings of G. suaveolens extracts were carried out according to precipitation and colorimetric methods. The total antioxidant and flavonoid contents were determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu and Aluminium Chloride ethanolic methods. The efficiency of G. suaveolens extracts on free radicals was evaluated using DPPHsup>•sup>, ABTssup>+•sup>, and FRAP methods. The anti-inflammatory properties of extracts were evaluated according to in vitro protein (BsA) denaturation, Proteinase Inhibitory Action, and Red Blood Cell Membrane stabilization assays. The G. suaveolens aqueous, hydroethanolic and ethanolic extracts were used for the acute toxicity assessment according to the OECD protocol. The obtained results showed the presence of flavonoids, phenols, polyphenols, tannins, anthocyanins, alkaloids, terpenoids, and sterols as secondary metabolites families in G. suaveolens extracts. The highest contents of total antioxidants and flavonoids were highlighted in the hydroethanolic extract. However, it’s the G. suaveolens aqueous extract that showed the best free radical DPPHsup>•sup> and ABTssup>+•sup> scavenging activities (sCsub>50sub>) of 11.06 μg/mL and 15.16 μg/mL respectively. The highest ferric-reducing activity was found in G. suaveolens ethanolic extract with 866.23 μg EGA/mg of dry weight.
