The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CovV-2)infection is associated with a hyperinflammatory state and lymphocytopenia,a hallmark that appears as both signature and prognosis of disease severity *** cytokine storm and a sustained inflammatory state are commonly associated with immune cell depletion,it is still unclear whether direct SARS-Cov-2 infection of immune cells could also play a role in this scenario by harboring viral *** found that monocytes,as well as both B and T lymphocytes,were susceptible to SARS-Cov-2 infection in vitro,accumulating double-stranded RNA consistent with viral RNA replication and ultimately leading to expressive T cell *** addition,flow cytometry and immunofluorescence analysis revealed that SARS-Cov-2 was frequently detected in monocytes and B lymphocytes from coronavirus disease 2019(CoVID-19)*** rates of SARS-Cov-2-infected monocytes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from CoVID-19 patients increased over time from symptom onset,with SARS-CoV-2-positive monocytes,B cells,and CD4+T lymphocytes also detected in postmortem lung *** results indicated that SARS-CoV-2 infection of blood-circulating leukocytes in covID-19 patients might have important implications for disease pathogenesis and progression,immune dysfunction,and virus spread within the host.

Detection with High Resolution Radar: Advanced Topics & potential Applications

In a previous companion paper [1], the potential advantages of high resolution radar for improved target detection were introduced. In particular, the concept of shaping both the transmitted waveform and the receiving processor in accordance to the expected target down-range profile was highlighted and performance predictions were provided. In this paper, we present and evaluate an adaptive scheme devised to on-line estimate the target profile, in order to overcome a limited a-priori knowledge. In addition, we introduce a more general model of target impulse response, based on a statistical description, and we discuss the corresponding processing scheme and detection performance.

Reinforced concrete(RC)slabs are characterized by reduced construction time,versatility,and easier space *** structural behavior is not straightforward and,specifically,punching shear strength is a current research *** this study an experimental database of 113 RC slabs without shear reinforcement under punching loads was compiled using data available in the literature.A sensitivity analysis of the parameters involved in the punching shear strength assessment was conducted,which highlighted the importance of the flexural reinforcement that are not typically considered for punching shear *** a discussion of the current international standards,a new proposed model for punching shear strength and rotation of RC slabs without shear reinforcement was *** was based on a simplified load-rotation curve and new failure criteria that takes into account the flexural reinforcement *** experimental database was used to validate the approaches of the current international standards as well as the new proposed *** latter proved to be a potentially useful design tool.

Impact characterization on thin structures using machine learning approaches

Ultrastructural features of the hypopharyngeal glands in the social wasp polistes versicolor （Hymenoptera： Vespidae）

The wasps of the genus polistes have been considered the key to understanding the evolution of social behavior in Hymenoptera. Several studies have shown that the development of organized insect societies was accompanied by the evolution of structures like exocrine glands, which became specialized to perform specific functions. This article investigates the ultrastructural and cytochemical features of the hypopharyngeal glands of polistes versicolor. These glands have been studied in depth in social bees, where they occur only in nurses and produce the royal jelly. Our results＇ revealed that these glands basically did not vary among individuals or between sexes. They are constituted by spherical cells, each with a large nucleus and well-developed rough endoplasmic reticulum. Secretion vesicles are abundant, but lipid droplets were not observed, indicating that these glands may not have a role in pheromone synthesis. Acid phosphatase was detected in lysosomes, and also flee in the cytosol, but did not seem to be related with cell death. Thus, our results suggest that the hypopharyngeal glands ofp. versicolor may not have a specialized social role, but could produce digestive enzymes.

A brief description of the windmills from the second millennium BC to the Renaissance is presented. This survey is a part of several studies conducted by the authors on technology in the ancient world. The windmills are the first motor, other than human muscles, and are the ancestors of the modem wind turbines. Some authors＇ virtual reconstructions of old windmills are also presented. The paper shows that the operating principle of many modem machines had already been conceived in the ancient times by using a technology that was more advanced than expected, but with two main differences, as follows： Similar tasks were accomplished by using much less energy; and the environmental impact was nil or very low. Modem designers should sometimes consider simplicity rather than the use of a large amount of energy.

Horizontal accuracy assessment of very high resolution Google Earth images in the city of Rome,Italy

Google Earth(GE)has recently become the focus of increasing interest and popularity among available online virtual globes used in scientific research projects,due to the free and easily accessed satellite imagery provided with global ***,the uses of this service raises several research questions on the quality and uncertainty of spatial data(*** accuracy,precision,consistency),with implications for potential uses like data collection and *** paper aims to analyze the horizontal accuracy of very high resolution(VHR)GE images in the city of Rome(Italy)for the years 2007,2011,and *** evaluation was conducted by using both Global positioning System ground truth data and cadastral photogrammetric vertex as independent check *** validation process includes the comparison of histograms,graph plots,tests of normality,azimuthal direction errors,and the calculation of standard statistical *** results show that GE VHR imageries of Rome have an overall positional accuracy close to 1 m,sufficient for deriving ground truth samples,measurements,and large-scale planimetric maps.

An overview on nucleation theories and models

Several different models for coercivity are discussed. There are two main situations: i) nanocrystalline magnets, with grain size bellow the single domain particle size, and ii) magnets with grain size above single domain particle size. The described theories and models are general, and can be applied in either NdFeB magnets, SmFeCoCuZr or strontium ferrite magnets. The spring effect observed in isotropic nanocrystalline magnets can be explained with the Stoner-Wohlfarth model. Modifications of the StonerWohlfarth model are necessary to take into account the effect of interaction between grains. When the grain size is above the single domain size, energy considerations show that nucleation should occur at the surface of grains. Nucleation is interpreted as a two-step process, where domain wall displacement occurs for grain size above single domain size, after a nucleus is first formed. The effect of grain size on the coercive field is discussed.

Human Interaction Dynamics for Its Use in Mobile Robotics:Impedance Control for Leader-follower Formation

A complete characterization of the behavior in human-robot interactions(HRI) includes both: the behavioral dynamics and the control laws that characterize how the behavior is regulated with the perception data. In this way, this work proposes a leader-follower coordinate control based on an impedance control that allows to establish a dynamic relation between social forces and motion error. For this, a scheme is presented to identify the impedance based on fictitious social forces, which are described by distance-based potential *** part of the validation procedure, we present an experimental comparison to select the better of two different fictitious force structures. The criteria are determined by two qualities: least impedance errors during the validation procedure and least parameter variance during the recursive estimation ***, with the best fictitious force and its identified impedance,an impedance control is designed for a mobile robot pioneer 3AT,which is programmed to follow a human in a structured *** to results, and under the hypothesis that moving like humans will be acceptable by humans, it is believed that the proposed control improves the social acceptance of the robot for this kind of interaction.
