Neonatal Morbidity and Mortality at Hospital Saint Camille de Ouagadougou (HOSCO): A Study from 2017 to 2020

Introduction: Neonatal pathology remains a real public health problem in developing countries. In Burkina Faso, this mortality has declined over the last ten years but remains below compared to the Sustainable Development Goals, which is 12 per 1000 living births at most by 2030. This study aims to identify specific causes of neonatal morbidity and mortality and will contribute to the implementation of preventive and curative measures aimed at reducing neonatal mortality at HOSCO. Method: This was a retrospective study using the records and database of newborns hospitalized from January 1srt, 2017 to December 31srt, 2020. Using logistic regression, the factors associated with mortality were determined. Results: During the study period, 3020 newborns were hospitalized. Most newborns (83.71%) were referred by a peripheral health facility. The average age at admission was 0.3 days ± 0.9 and the sex ratio was 1.2. Prematurity was the leading cause of hospitalization (61.13%) followed by neonatal infection (38.34%) and neonatal suffering (23.88%). The mortality rate was 40.6% with 82.71% cases of death in the early neonatal period. The main causes of death were low birth weight (47.39%), respiratory distress (18.76%), neonatal suffering (17.37%) and neonatal infection (13.87%). Home delivery, gestational age 36 weeks, number of PNC 4, concept of resuscitation, Apgar at the 5th minute 7, birth weight 2000 g and >4000 g, respiratory distress, hypothermia, neurological disorders were factors associated with deaths. Conclusion: Neonatal mortality is influenced by both maternal and fetal factors and many of them are preventable.

Introduction: In Burkina Faso, undernutrition is a public health problem associated with more than 40% of infant and child mortality. Undernutrition management is complex, and there is often a risk of treatment abandonment. Studies on this topic have not explored the influence of environmental and therapeutic factors on parental compliance. This study proposes an analysis of factors influencing the abandonment of nutritional recovery by parents of malnourished children aged 6 to 59 months in ambulatory care. Methods: This was a descriptive and exploratory qualitative study. Data collection took place in February 2020. Data were collected from seventeen (17) participants via in-depth interviews (IDI) and direct observation. The IDIs were transcribed verbatim and thematically analyzed using Nvivo software. Results: The results revealed that factors related to the physical environment, such as geographical inaccessibility, pastoral occupation, displacement at auriferous sites, and insecurity, are important causes of nutritional recovery abandonment. They also prove that factors related to the social environment, such as lack of family and social support, feelings of shame, stigmatization, occupation of the mother, and social events, lead to this abandonment. In addition, therapeutic factors such as interruptions of supplies of Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), feeling of improvement or worsening of the state of health, recourse to traditional medicine, and ignorance of undernutrition are also associated with this issue. Conclusion: This study highlighted barriers to the abandonment of nutritional recovery among parents of severely malnourished children aged 6 to 59 months in the health district of Titao, Burkina Faso. It is more important to consider these different factors when evaluating care protocols so that policies to reduce child undernutrition can considerably impact the targets.

Araucaria angustifolia(Bertol.) O. Kuntze exhibits dimorphism in its stem structure, where the trunk is orthotropic and branches and branchlets(primary and secondary branches) are plagiotropic. These stems exhibit different behavior when used for vegetative propagation,and only segments of trunk can form a complete plant. The physiological and biochemical mechanisms that characterize these stems are still little known. The aim of this study was to describe the free amino acid profiles in trunks,branches, and branchlets of A. angustifolia. Segments of 5 cm in length were excised from young individuals below the stem apex. The needles were removed and samples were frozen and lyophilized. The determinations were made by high-performance liquid chromatography, and the results were expressed as lg/g fresh weight(FW). The trunks and branches had the highest content of total amino acids, which were 112.23 ± 20.57 lg/g FW and 111.97 ± 27.78 lg/g FW, respectively. The amino acids—glutamine, aspartate and c-aminobutyric acid and tyrosine—were noticeably higher in the three types of *** the trunk, a higher amount of asparagine and tryptophan,was also detected. Glutamic acid and glutamine were found in higher quantities in the branches. The branchlets had very low total amino acid content (30.79 ± 4.19 lg/g FW), wherein asparagine is the only amino acid not detected. Thus, it was observed that the profile of the free amino acid differs among trunks, branches, and branchlets in A. angustifolia, indicating that they perform different functions.

Effects of total replacement of corn silage with sorghum silage on milk yield,composition, and quality

Background： In the last years, difficulties occurring in corn cultivation（i.e., groundwater shortages, mycotoxin contamination） have been forcing dairy farmers to consider alternative silages. Some experiments conducted on lactating cows have proven that the total replacement of corn silage with sorghum silage did not reduce milk ***, this kind of substitution involves supplementing sorghum-based diets with grains, to compensate for the lower starch content of sorghum silage compared to corn silage. Change of silage type and inclusion of starch sources in the diet would influence rumen fermentations, with possible effects on milk composition（i.e., fatty acid profile） and coagulation properties. A worsening of milk coagulation properties would have a negative economic impact in Italy, where most of the milk produced is processed into *** study was designed to compare milk composition and quality, with emphasis on fatty acid profile and coagulation properties, in dairy cows fed two diets based on corn or sorghum ***： The sorghum diet reduced milk yield（P = 0.043） but not 4% fat corrected milk（P = 0.85）. Feeding sorghum silage did not influence milk contents of protein（P = 0.07） and lactose（P = 0.65）, and increased fat content（P = 0.024）.No differences emerged for milk concentrations of saturated（P = 0.61） and monounsaturated fatty acids（P = 0.50）,whereas polyunsaturated fatty acids were lower（P 〈 0.001） for the sorghum diet. Concentrations of n-6（P 〈 0.001） and n-3 fatty acids（P = 0.017） were lower in milk of cows fed the sorghum diet. 基于我国2007—2019年30个省级区域的面板数据,建立空间计量模型分析科技创新投入和教育水平对于区域经济增长的影响。结果表明:东南沿海地区发展较好,并且表现为经济发达省份被其他经济发达的省份包围的分布态势;西部地区大多为经济欠发达省份,并且周围的省份经济发展也较差。通过分析得出科技创新投入对区域经济增长存在显著的正向溢出效应,但是教育水平对区域经济增长的溢出效应不显著。在中国经济进入高质量发展阶段,需要加强省份间经济合作,明确政府自身定位,提高科技创新投入水平和科技创新成果转化能力,推进教育水平综合提升。

Rapid dehydration of grape berries dampens the post-ripening transcriptomic program and the metabolite profile evolution

The postharvest dehydration of grape berries allows the concentration of sugars and other solutes and promotes the synthesis of metabolites and aroma compounds unique to high-quality raisin wines such as the passito wines made in *** dynamic changes are dependent on environmental parameters such as temperature and relative humidity,as well as endogenous factors such as berry morphology and genotype,but the contribution of each variable is not well ***,we compared berries subjected to natural or accelerated dehydration,the latter driven by forced air *** followed the evolution of transcript and metabolite profiles and found that accelerated dehydration clearly dampened the natural transcriptomic and metabolomic programs of postharvest *** found that slow dehydration over a prolonged duration is necessary to induce gene expression and metabolite accumulation associated with the final quality traits of dehydrated *** accumulation of key metabolites(particularly stilbenoids)during postharvest dehydration is inhibited by rapid dehydration conditions that shorten the berry life time.

Why the Partnership of OAT Italian Patients Association in Cosenza＇s Hospital Matters？

The activism of patients associations, in decision making, about health and social services, is an expanding phenomenon in Italy and elsewhere. But the civic roles of these patients associations, in health care settings, remain largely unexplored, especially in the case of patients assuming oral anticoagulant therapy （OAT Patients） for various chronic and severe diseases （stroke, chronic arthritis, maintenance or substitution of cardiac valves）. This is a qualitative study, on a Civic Health Organization, the Italian Association of Anti Coagulant Patients （Associazione ltaliana Pazienti Anticolagulati, hereinafter A.I.P.A.） which promotes the rights of OAT patients. The study was carried out in the south of Italy at Cosenza＇s Hospital. Cosenza is a city in the north of Calabria, a poor Southern Italian region. The research, done between March 2010 and December 2012, involved focus groups, key-informant interviews with volunteers from the local A.I.P.A. unit and the hospital professionals （physicians, nurses, managers） of Cosenza＇s Annunziata Hospital. This essay mainly analyzes a micro-form of co-deliberative health care democracy： a stable partnership between AIPA members and the cited hospital professionals, based on a mix of advocacy, planning, and co-delivery service roles. In doing this, the paper sketches the development, aims, activities, internal structure and resources, and the role played by this specific citizen-user/patient/career organization in promoting and/or representing the interests of anti-coagulated patients within the legal arena of the Italian health policy. Finally, the paper comes to the point in which OAT patients refer their perceptions of relational rights.

Fine-scale analysis reveals a potential influence of forest management on the spatial genetic structure of Eremanthus erythropappus
