Objective: The objective of this study was to analyse the reversibility of the anticoagulant effect of warfarin by comparing prothrombin complex concentrate (PCC) versus frozen fresh plasma (FFP) in cardiology patients with serious warfarin intoxication. Methods: This was an observational and retrospective study comprising 67 patients (18 in group I [PCC] and 49 in group II [FFP]). The primary endpoint was the reversal of anticoagulant effect of warfarin after 2 and 24 hours of PCC or FFP administration. Comparisons between the groups were made using T-test and Q-square. Multivariate analyses were conducted using logistic regression, and the results were considered significant when p Results: The medium dose used was 27.6 UI/kg of PCC and 14.5 ml/kg of FFP. Significant differences were observed between groups I and II in the INR reversibility measurements after 2 hours (33.3% vs. 6.1%, p = 0.001) and 24 hours (38.9% vs. 12.2%, p = 0.009) as well as in the occurrence of pulmonary edema (5.6% vs. 42.9%, OR = 11.10, p = 0.04). The AUC for PCC was 0.891 (CI 95% [0.72 - 1.0]), and for FFP, it was 0.291 (CI 95% [0.09 - 0.49]). Conclusions: PCC is better than FFP treatment in reversing the warfarin intoxication after 2 and 24 hours of administration. Furthermore, PCC showed lower pulmonary edema in cardiology patients.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs’anti-pyretic and anti-inflammatory effects has led some individuals to theorize these medications may blunt core body temperature(Tc)increases during *** utilized a double-blind,randomized,and counterbalanced cross-over design to examine the effects of a 24-h naproxen dose(3–220 mg naproxen pills)and placebo(0 mg naproxen)on Tc and plasma interleukin-6(IL-6)concentrations during cycling in a hot or ambient ***(n=11;6 male,5 female;age=27.8±6.5 years,weight=79.1±17.9 kg,height=177±9.5 cm)completed 4 conditions:1)placebo and ambient(Control);2)placebo and heat(Heat);3)naproxen and ambient(Npx);and 4)naproxen and heat(NpxHeat).Dependent measures were taken before,during,and immediately after 90 min of cycling and then 3 h after ***,Tc significantly increased pre-(37.1±0.4℃)to post-cycling(38.2±0.3℃,F_(1.7,67.3)=150.5,p<0.001)and decreased during rest(37.0±0.3℃,F_(2.0,81.5)=201.6,p<0.001).Rate of change or maximum Tc were not significantly different between ***-6 increased pre-(0.54±0.06 pg/ml)to post-exercise(2.46±0.28 pg/ml,p<0.001)and remained significantly higher than pre-at 3 h post-(1.17±0.14 pg/ml,95%CI=-1.01 to-0.23,p=0.001).No significant IL-6 differences occurred between conditions.A 24-h,over-the-counter naproxen dose did not significantly affect Tc or IL-6 among males and females cycling in hot or ambient environments.

Using a double-blind,randomized and counterbalanced,cross-over design,we assessed naproxen's effects on gastrointestinal(GI)distress and performance in eleven volunteers(6 male,5 female).Participants completed 4 trials:1)placebo and ambient);2)placebo and heat;3)naproxen and ambient;and 4)naproxen and *** variables were one placebo or 220 mg naproxen pill every 8 h(h)for 24 h and ambient(22.7±1.8℃)or thermal environment(35.7±1.3℃).Participants cycled 80 min at a steady heart rate then 10 min for maximum *** exertion was measured throughout *** distress was assessed pre-,during,post-,3 h post-,and 24 h post-cycling using a GI index for upper,lower,and systemic *** statistically significant differences occurred between conditions at any time for GI symptoms or perceived exertion,distance,or heart rate during maximum effort.A 24 h naproxen dose did not significantly affect performance or cause more frequent or serious GI distress when participants were euhydrated and cycling at moderate intensity in a thermal environment.

Many agricultural fields across the country have a high degree of variability in soil type and water holding capacity that affects irrigation management. One way to overcome problems associated with the field variability for improving irrigation management is to utilize a site-specific irrigation system. This system applies water to match the needs of individual management zones within a field. A real-time continuous soil moisture measurement is essential for the success of site-specific irrigation systems. Recently the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) developed sensor technology that records the global positioning system (GPS) signal reflected from the surface of Earth, which estimates the dielectric properties of soil and can be used to estimate soil moisture contents. The overall objective of this study was to determine the feasibility of utilizing GPS-based technology developed by NASA for soil moisture measurements and to determine the influence of soil type, soil compaction, and ground cover on the measurements. The results showed strong positive correlations between soil moisture and reflected signals. Other factors (soil compaction and soil type), were not significantly related to reflectivity and did not significantly change the relationship between reflectivity and soil moisture contents. In addition, ground cover (rye crop) did not significantly reduce reflectivity. Therefore, this system could be used as a real-time and continuous nonintrusive soil moisture sensor for site-specific irrigation scheduling and watershed management.

Background: We report the use of intravitreal bevacizumab as an option for the treatment of chronic or recurrent central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). Methods: Eight eyes with chronic or recurrent CSC received intravitreal bevacizumab (1.25 mg/0.05 cc) and underwent best corrected visual acuity (VA), optical coherent tomography (OCT), fluorescein angiography (FA) and indocyanine green angiography (ICG) before, and one, three and six months after treatment. Results: All patients showed improvement in visual acuity, fluorescein angiographic leakage, choroidal hyperpermeability and reduced or resolved neurosensory detachment following treatment. Two patients require a second dose of intravitreal bevacizumab. Conclusions: Intravitreal injection of bevacizumab was associated with visual improvement and reduced neurosensory detachment without adverse events in patients with chronic or recurrent CSC. Although these results are promising, further investigations would be helpful to understand this therapy for patients with CSC.
