Uncertainties of landslide susceptibility prediction:Influences of different spatial resolutions,machine learning models and proportions of training and testing dataset

This study aims to reveal the impacts of three important uncertainty issues in landslide susceptibility prediction(LSP),namely the spatial resolution,proportion of model training and testing datasets and selection of machine learning *** Yanchang County of China as example,the landslide inventory and 12 important conditioning factors were *** frequency ratios of each conditioning factor were calculated under five spatial resolutions(15,30,60,90 and 120 m).Landslide and non-landslide samples obtained under each spatial resolution were further divided into five proportions of training and testing datasets(9:1,8:2,7:3,6:4 and 5:5),and four typical machine learning models were applied for LSP *** results demonstrated that different spatial resolution and training and testing dataset proportions induce basically similar influences on the modeling *** a decrease in the spatial resolution from 15 m to 120 m and a change in the proportions of the training and testing datasets from 9:1 to 5:5,the modelling accuracy gradually decreased,while the mean values of predicted landslide susceptibility indexes increased and their standard deviations *** sensitivities of the three uncertainty issues to LSP modeling were,in order,the spatial resolution,the choice of machine learning model and the proportions of training/testing datasets.

Retrospective descriptive analysis of the physiological kinetics of prostate-specific antigen in men older than 75 years

Several studies have compared prostate-specific antigen （PSA） kinetics in men with and without cancer, but there has been no adequate analysis of the longitudinal variation in PSA. The aim of this study was to assess the fluctuations in PSA in a cohort of elderly men in an attempt to define a physiological pattern of PSA kinetics. We searched a specific cohort of patients aged 〉 75 years and with PSA value 〈 2.0 ng mL^-1. A history of all PSA values over the past 10 years was compiled for each patient to create a database of patients fitting the following criteria：（1） minimum of five PSA measurements, （2） over at least 5 years. Exclusion criteria were：（1） PSA 〈 0.2 ng mL^-1 at each measurement and （2） having had more than one PSA test per year. In all, 1 327 patients （mean age： 78.52 years） fit the inclusion criteria. The mean variation from the first to the last PSA test was 0.05 ± 0.43, with a mean follow-up of 6.79 ± 1.71 years. Over the same period, the mean fluctuation from the lowest to the highest PSA value was 0.04 ± 0.55 （P = 0.925）. The mean annual PSA velocity （PSAV） was calculated by dividing the mean variation from the first to the last PSA test by the number of years of observation for each patient and was set at 0.0104 ± 0.1050. Concluding, in a large-scale cohort of elderly individuals considered healthy and evaluated for a considerable follow-up, the average annual PSAV as well as the average fluctuation from the lowest to the highest PSA value are insignificant.

Tailored therapy in patients treated with fluoropyrimidines: focus on the role of dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase

Fluoropyrimidines are widely used in the treatment of solid tumors, mainly gastrointestinal, head and neck and breast cancer. Dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) is the rate-limiting enzyme for catabolism of 5-FU and it is encoded by DPYD gene. To date, many known polymorphisms cause DPD deficiency and subsequent increase of 5-FU toxicity. In addition, reduced inactivation of 5-FU could lead to increased 5-FU intracellular concentration and augmented efficacy of this drugs. Therefore DPD expression, particularly intratumoral, has been investigated as predictive and prognostic marker in 5-FU treated patients. There also seems to be a tendency to support the correlation between DPD expression and response/survival in patients treated with fluoropyrimidine even if definitive conclusions cannot be drawn considering that some studies are conflicting. Therefore, the debate on intratumoral DPD expression as a potential predictor and prognostic marker in patients treated with fluoropyrimidines is still open. Four DPD-polymorphisms are the most relevant for their frequency in population and clinical relevance. Many studies demonstrate that treating a carrier of one of these polymorphisms with a full dose of fluoropyrimidine can expose patient to a severe, even life-threatening, toxicity. Severe toxicity is reduced if this kind of patients received a dose-adjustment after being genotyped. CPIC (Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium) is an International Consortium creating guidelines for facilitating use of pharmacogenetic tests for patient care and helps clinicians ensuring a safer drug delivery to the patient. Using predictive DPD deficiency tests in patients receiving 5FU-based chemotherapy, in particular for colorectal cancer, has proven to be a cost-effective strategy.

Changes of Extreme Events in Regional Climate Simulations over East Asia

Changes of extreme events due to greenhouse effects (2 × CO2) over East Asia, with a focus on the China region as simulated by a regional climate model (RegCM2), are investigated. The model is nested to a global coupled ocean-atmosphere model (CSIRO R21L9 AOGCM). Analysis of the control run of the regional model indicates that it can reproduce well the extreme events in China. Statistically significant changes of the events are analyzed. Results show that both daily maximum and daily minimum temperature increase in 2 × CO2 conditions, while the diurnal temperature range decreases. The number of hot spell days increases while the number of cold spell days decreases. The number of rainy days and heavy rain days increases over some sub-regions of China. The 2 × CO2 conditions also cause some changes in the tropical storms affecting China.

A joint international effort to improve solid propellant performance within the framework of a FP7European Project was *** metallized solid rocket propellants,of the broad family AP/HTPB/Metal in the ratio 68/14/18,were experimentally analyzed seeking to optimize the delivered specific impulse by identifying the most suitable high-energy *** the same nominal composition,different metallic fuels(including micrometric and nanometric Al,AlH3,and a variety of dual metal compositions)were characterized,tested,and contrasted to a conventional micrometric aluminum(30μm average grain size)certified for space *** order to overcome the intrinsic performance limitations of the matrix AP/HTPB,a new matrix consisting of ADN/GAP satisfying also the need for environmentally benign propellant formulation was considered as well.A comparative analysis between the two solid propellant systems in terms of ideal thermochemistry and experimental combustion properties reveals advantages and disadvantages of ***,it is judged worthwhile to develop ADN/GAP propellants,with or without metallic fuels,to enhance the current status of solid rocket *** morphology and mechanical properties of ADN/GAP compositions and understanding their flame structure and aggregation/agglomeration properties are the main issues still challenging industrial users.
