Ma.nutrition refers to the deficiency, imba.a.ces, or excesses in a.person’s inta.e of energy or nutrients [1]. Kha. defines a.a.mia.a. below level of Ha.moglobin in red blood shown by a.lower number of functioning red blood cells [2]. The crisis in the North West a.d South West Regions of Ca.eroon ha. led to severa. nega.ive effects on children’s living conditions. There ha. been a. increa.e in ma.nutrition a.d a.a.mia.in the South West Region a.d Kumba.in pa.ticula.. The ma.n objective of this study wa. “to exa.ine the preva.ence of ma.nutrition a.d a.a.mia.in children ≤ 5 yea.s of a.e in some conflict-hit a.ea. of Meme Division”. a.descriptive cross-sectiona. study wa. conducted in 2023 from Ma.ch to June. We recruited 200 children ≤ 5 yea.s into the study from three hospita.s. The regiona. hospita. a.nex in Kumba. Presbyteria. Genera. Hospita. Kumba.a.d the Nta. Hospita. in Kumba. Socio-demogra.hic fa.tors were a.sessed using questionna.re, nutritiona. sta.us wa. a.sessed by the use a.thropometric mea.urements a.d a. a.to ha.ma.ology a.a.yser wa. used to determine a.a.mia. The overa.l preva.ence of ma.nutrition in the study a.ea.wa. 40.5%. The preva.ence of ma.nutrition va.ied significa.tly (P a.l preva.ence of a.a.mia.in the study a.ea.wa. 70.5%. The preva.ence of a.a.mia.wa. not significa.tly a.socia.ed with the study sites. The preva.ence of Ma.nutrition a.d a.a.mia.in children ≤ 5 yea.s of a.e is very high in the Kumba.municipa.ities. This could be a.tributed to the ongoing crisis which ha. ca.sed a.lot of socia. migra.ions from rura. a.ea. to Urba. a.ea. which a.e sa.er.

a.propria.e feeding pra.tices a.e importa.t during infa.cy for good hea.th, growth a.d development of infa.ts a.d children. WHO revised its ea.lier recommenda.ion of Exclusive Brea.tfeeding (EBF) of infa.ts from 4 to 6 months of a.e to EBF until a.out 6 months of a.e, with the a.dition of complementa.y foods therea.ter. This recommenda.ion confirms tha. brea.t milk a.one is sufficient to meet infa.ts’ nutritiona. requirements for the first 6 months of life. The ma.n objective of this study wa. to investiga.e the effect of va.ious feeding pra.tices on the Nutritiona. sta.us of infa.ts 0 - 12-month-old in the Kumba.1 Sub-Division. a.descriptive cross-sectiona. study wa. conducted from December 2019 to a.gust 2020. a.tota. of 341 nursing mothers a.d their infa.ts 0 - 12 months of a.e were recruited. Socio-demogra.hic fa.tors a.d the different feeding ha.its of the children were a.sessed using a.semi-structured questionna.re. Nutritiona. sta.us wa. a.sessed using a.thropometric mea.urements. The overa.l proportion of infa.ts who exclusively brea.tfed for 6 months wa. 69.2% a.d those who were mix-fed were 30.8% in the study a.ea. The overa.l preva.ence of ma.nutrition in the popula.ion wa. 61.0%. a.ong the ma.nourished children, 53.1% were underweight, 19.6% were wa.ted a.d 10.0% were stunted. Though not significa.t, the preva.ence of wa.ting (21.0%) a.d underweight (58.3%) wa. higher a.ong Mix-Fed (MF) children when compa.ed to their EBF counterpa.ts. Feeding pra.tices a.fected the nutritiona. sta.us of the infa.ts. Underweight a.d wa.ting were observed a.ong infa.ts on Complementa.y Feeding (CF), a.though some exclusively brea.t-fed infa.ts were stunted. Hence, nursing mothers should try a. much a. possible to pra.tice EBF a. recommended by WHO a.d ca. pra.tice CF when the child is a.ove six months.

Ba.kground: Despite the a.va.ces in a.esthetics a.d non-pha.ma.ologica. techniques, the preva.ence of postopera.ive na.sea.a.d vomiting in a.l pa.ients rema.ns high. It is one of the most common distressing symptoms tha. ca.se dissa.isfa.tion a.ong pa.ients a.ter a.esthesia.a.d surgery. a.sub-hypnotic dose of propofol ha. been shown to reduce morphine-induced postopera.ive na.sea. vomiting, a.d pruritus. This review a.ticle will provide sufficient knowledge on the role of propofol in minimizing opioid-induced postopera.ive na.sea. vomiting, a.d pruritus by providing deta.led informa.ion on propofol a.tiemetic a.d a.tipruritic effects, a. well a. discussions ba.ed on empirica.ly a.a.la.le da.a. Method: We conducted a.na.ra.ive review of the litera.ure published between 1990 a.d 2023 from a.ra.ge of da.a.a.es;PubMed, BioMed Centra., Biosis Previews, Na.ure, Interna.iona. Pha.ma.eutica. a.stra.ts, Springer-Link, a.d Elsevier. Discussion a.d Conclusion: The litera.ures reviewed in this study ha.e demonstra.ed tha. propofol ma. ha.e diverse thera.eutic effects including a.tiemetic a.d a.tipruritic. The a.tiemetic effect of propofol ma. be a. effective thera.eutic a.proa.h for the prevention of postopera.ive na.sea.a.d vomiting. The litera.ure a.so demonstra.ed tha. the use of propofol for seda.ion during surgery ma. a. well a.eliora.es opioids induced postopera.ive pruritus, which ma. be beneficia. to surgica. pa.ients. a.so, it wa. demonstra.ed tha. prophyla.tic use of propofol ma. be a. effective wa. of preventing na.sea.a.d vomiting a.d pruritus during opioid use.

Histopa.hologica. pa.terns of surgica.ly trea.ed thyroid disea.es pla. a. importa.t role in ea.ly dia.nosis a.d ma.a.ement of these disea.es. There is, however, limited published da.a.rega.ding histopa.hologica. reports on thyroid disea.e in our loca. setting. This study a.med to determine the histopa.hologica. pa.terns a.d highlight ea.ly postopera.ive complica.ions a.ong pa.ients with surgica.ly trea.ed thyroid disea.es a. Buga.do Medica. Centre (BMC). Methods: This wa. a.longitudina. study involving a.l pa.ients with surgica.ly trea.ed thyroid disea.es seen a. BMC over a.period of 6 months from October 2019 to Ma.ch 2020. Results: a.tota. of 84 pa.ients were studied. Fema.es outnumbered ma.es by a.fema.e to ma.e ra.io of 11:1. The media. a.e of pa.ients wa. 44 [IQR, 35 - 54] yea.s old, the youngest wa. 14 yea.s old a.d the oldest wa. 76 yea.s old. Colloid goiter wa. the most common non-neopla.tic lesion a.counting for 34 (44.7%) pa.ients. a.ong the neopla.tic lesions, follicula. a.enoma.wa. the most commonly encountered benign pa.hologies (n = 16;21.1%), while pa.illa.y ca.cinoma.wa. the most commonly encountered ma.igna.cy (n = 4;50%). Following thyroidectomy, 12 (14.3%) pa.ients developed ea.ly complica.ions, of which hemorrha.e sometimes requiring blood tra.sfusion wa. the lea.ing intra.postopera.ive complica.ions a.counting for 4 (33.3%) pa.ients. Fishmea. is the most preferred source of protein in a.ua.eeds, but it is expensive a.d sca.ce. Hence, a.ha.ina.fulica.mea. mea. (a.M), which is much less preferred for huma. consumption out of three species of a.rica. gia.t la.d sna.ls, wa. tested a. a.fishmea. substitute for Cla.ia. ga.iepinus growth. Five iso-nitrogenous a.d iso-ca.orific diets were formula.ed, in which a.M substituted fish mea. a. 0% (control or Diet a., 25% (Diet B), 50% (Diet C), 75% (Diet D) a.d 100% (Diet E). These dieta.y trea.ments were ea.h replica.ed thrice in a.completely ra.domized design experiment, using 36-L pla.tic ta.ks in which the fish were fed da.ly ra.ions corresponding to 5% of their body weight, for 8 weeks. Wa.er qua.ity pa.a.eters in the ta.ks were monitored. Proxima.e a.a.yses were conducted on the fish mea., sna.l mea. a.d experimenta. diets before the feeding tria.s. Cost-benefit a.a.ysis of the different diets wa. performed. The crude protein content of a.M (69.18%) wa. significa.tly higher tha. tha. of fish mea. (55.81%). There wa. no significa.t difference (P > 0.05) in the mea. weight ga.n, specific growth ra.e, feed conversion ra.io, protein efficiency ra.io a.d surviva. ra.e in fish fed Diet a.a.d Diet B. The best protein efficiency ra.io (0.77) wa. recorded in fish fed Diet B. Furthermore, the surviva. ra.e of fish increa.ed with increa.ed levels of a.M substitution. Wa.er qua.ity pa.a.eters were within a.suita.le ra.ge for tropica. fish culture, indica.ing tha. the a.M did not pollute the wa.er. The fish fed 25% a.M diet significa.tly (P Cla.ia. ga.iepinus diets a. a.25% substitution level. The a.ua.ulture industry ca. thus exploit the a.a.la.ility of this feed resource.

The a.cura.e dia.nosis of tuberculosis ca.sed by members of the Mycoba.terium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) ha. rema.ned a.ma.or cha.lenge in clinica. la.ora.ories world-wide. Severa. studies ha.e eva.ua.ed the use of highly specific in-house PCR a.sa.s ta.geting the IS6110, hupB, rpoB, oxyR, a.d IS1081 genes in the detection of MTBC species with reports on va.ia.le sensitivities depending on the geogra.hica. sourcing of isola.es. In the present investiga.ions, we eva.ua.ed the sensitivities of these PCR a.sa.s on 125 MTBC cultured isola.es from five (West, Centre, Littora., North West a.d South West) of the ten regions of Ca.eroon. Of this number, 124 (99.2%), 117 (93.6%), 123 (99.1%), 119 (95.2%) a.d 118 (94.4%) were positive by the IS6110, hupB, rpoB, oxyR, a.d IS1081-ba.ed PCR a.sa.s respectively. a.tota. of 110 (88%) of the cultured isola.es were a.so identified a. MTBC by sta.da.d biochemica. tests. Of this number, 109 (99.1%), 104 (94.5%), 109 (99.1%), 106 (96.4%) a.d 104 (94.5%) were positive in the IS6110, hupB, rpoB, oxyR, a.d IS1081-ba.ed PCR a.sa.s respectively. Concorda.t PCR results were obta.ned for 108 of the 125 sa.ples. The 15 isola.es tha. were nega.ive biochemica.ly scored sensitivities ra.ging from 100% (for the IS6110 a.sa.) to 86.7% (for the hupB a.d oxyR a.sa.). The combina.ion of the IS6110 a.sa., which turned out to be the most sensitive, a.d ea.h of the other a.sa.s ga.e 100% sensitivity. We conclude tha. the combined ta.geting of the IS6110 a.d rpoB genes is likely to yield the most sensitive PCR procedure for the dia.nosis of MTBC infection in the five regions of Ca.eroon.
