Usefulness of the Surgical Apgar Score to Predict the Occurrence of Major Complications in the Early Post-Operative Period of Major Surgeries: Experience of Two Second-Category Hospitals in Cameroon

Objective: The Surgical Apgar Score (SAS) is a tool for intraoperative stratification of the risk of serious complications in the early postoperative period. It varies from 0 to 10 points divided into three risk categories (0 to 4 high, 5 to 7 moderate, 8 to 10 low). The aim of the study was to evaluate its relevance in predicting the appearance of these complications. Material and methods: This descriptive and analytical study was carried out at the “laquintinie” Hospital in Douala and at the Central Hospital in Yaounde, Cameroon. The main data were collected on a population of patients over 18 years old and recorded on a survey form. They consisted of variables of main interest and exposure variables. Univariate and multivariate statistical analysis using top-down logistic regression models made it possible to evaluate the association of each variable of main interest and each exposure variable. The association was significant at P Results: Of the 88 patients studied, the SAS was 3 hours. In multivariate, this link persisted only and strongly for the SAS OR (IC) 0.1 (0.1 - 0.2) and p = 000. Conclusion: The study found a specific and powerful link between the SAS score lications in the early postoperative period, in favor of its relevance in predicting them.

Climate Services Elaboration for Cocoa Cultivation in Côte d’Ivoire: Contribution of CORDEX Climate Projections

This study assessed the contribution of climate projections to improving rainfall information for cocoa crops in the central and southern regions of Côte d’Ivoire. Particular attention was paid to fourteen localities in these two climatic zones. Simulation data were obtained from the CORDEX ensemble and observation data from CHIRPS. They cover the period 1991-2005 for the reference period and the future period from 2021 to 2050 for the RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios. In addition, the study was based on the water requirements necessary during the critical phase of the cocoa tree (the flowering phase) for a good yield from the cocoa production chain on the one hand, and on a selection of three climate indices CDD, CWD and r95PTOT to study their spatio-temporal changes over two future periods 2021-2035 (near future) and 2036-2050 (medium-term) on the other. These climatic indices influence cocoa cultivation and their use in studies of climatic impacts on agriculture is of prime importance. The analysis of their spatio-temporal changes in this work also contributes to providing climate services based on rainfall, to which cocoa crops are highly sensitive. Our results show that the CDD and CWD indices vary from one region to another depending on latitude. For the fourteen localities studied, the number of consecutive dry days (CDD) could increase between now and 2050, while the number of consecutive wet days (CWD) could decrease over the period 2021-2035 and then increase over the period 2036-2050. The localities of Tabou, Aboisso and San-Pedro record high numbers of CDD index and CWD index for both projection scenarios. In comparison with the RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios, these results show that the RCP8.5 scenarios are having an impact on cocoa growing in Côte d’Ivoire.

Projected Changes in the Climate Zoning of Côte d’Ivoire

This study assesses the projected changes in the climate zoning of Côte d’Ivoire using the hierarchical classification of principal components (HCPC) method applied to the daily precipitation data of an ensemble of 14 CORDEX-AFRICA simulations under RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios. The results indicate the existence of three climate zones in Côte d’Ivoire (the coastal, the centre and the north) over the historical period (1981-2005). Moreover, CORDEX simulations project an extension of the surface area of drier climatic zones while a reduction of wetter zones, associated with the appearance of an intermediate climate zone with surface area varying from 77,560 km2 to 134,960 km2 depending on the period and the scenario. These results highlight the potential impacts of climate change on the delimitation of the climate zones of Côte d’Ivoire under the greenhouse gas emission scenarios. Thus, there is a reduction in the surface areas suitable for the production of cash crops such as cocoa and coffee. This could hinder the country’s economy and development, mainly based on these cash crops.

Prey species may have their own optimal escape strategy to balance predation risks and the energetic cost of *** species have an advantage when maintaining a short fleeing distance,while others may favour an earlier escape based on microhabitat,size,or body ***,we examined the escape behaviour of the three syntopic Northeast Asian anuran species:Mongolian toads(Strauchbufo raddei),Amur brown frogs(Rana amurensis),and Japanese treefrogs(Dryophytes japonicus)in Mongolia,Russia,China and DPR *** examined flight initiation distance(fid;the distance from a potential predator to the point when the individual starts to flee)and distance fled(DF;distance between flight initiation and flight termination points)of each species and the effects of microhabitat,sex,and body *** raddei and *** had a longer fid than ***,and *** also had a longer DF than *** trends remained similar when dividing fid and DF by a size proxy(snout-vent length)for all *** suggests that the treefrog *** used a strategy to stay immobile even when they were detected,and the toad *** reacted quicker and more sensitively to predators despite the presence of *** *** had a significantly longer fid than males suggesting that females are more sensitive to predation risk in this species,but body size was not significant for any of the three *** results indicate that the three sympatric species have different escaping strategies,likely related to differences in physiology and crypticity.

Characterization of Near Surface Intrusions in South-West Cameroon Zone Using Gravity Data: Mining and Geothermal Implications

The succession of tectonic phenomena in the South-West Cameroon area suggests that structures from the upper mantle infiltrated and took advantage of the cracks and fractures left by these phenomena to get closer to the earth’s surface. However, the intrusive structures closest to the surface remain poorly known. The objective of this work is to improve the knowledge related to the interpretation of gravity data in order to characterise the near-surface intrusive bodies in the South-West Cameroon area, and then analyse their mining and geothermal implications. To achieve this objective, the indirect, inverse and normalized standard deviation (NSTD) methods were used. The NSTD method was used to detect the contours of the intrusive bodies. The indirect method (spectral analysis) was used to determine the depths of the interfaces of three intrusive bodies, one located on the Bipindi-Ebolowa I axis (G5), the other on the Eseka-Pouma axis (G8) and the last on the Bokito-Monatele axis (G11). The results obtained show roofs located between 0 and 0.61 km, between 0 and 0.37 km and between 0 and 0.73 km for the G5, G8 and G11 bodies, respectively. Finally, the application of the 2D inversion method allowed us to estimate the density contrasts of the intrusive bodies (G5, G8 and G11). The superposition of the intrusive bodies detected by the NSTD with the geological and mineral resources map, as well as an analysis of the results obtained, gave indications of interesting zones for mining prospecting and for the search for geothermal reservoirs.

Effect of Variation of the Coefficient of Friction on the Temperature at the level of the Fault lips

Earth’s crust is an anisotropic and purely heterogeneous medium, which is justified by existence of different discontinuities;our study aims to show the effect of the variation of coefficient of friction on the evolution of temperature and its impact on seismic forecasting. In this work, we are model in 2D the variation of thermal energy and temperature produced by friction at the level of fault lip as function of depth of the seismic focus and at different value of time. Earthquakes are born when the energy accumulated by friction at the level of fault is suddenly released causing damage, sometimes noticeable on the surface of earth (macroseisms), and sometimes not at all noticeable on the surface of earth (microseisms), then energy which occurs before is important to forecasting earthquake. Assuming that coefficient of friction is variable, our results have enabled us to highlight the fact that, the greater the coefficient of friction, more the temperature increases, although the temperature profile increase over time but not linearly reflecting the presence of different asperities and discontinuities zone;slip generated at the level of fault occur a variation of temperature on specific points called roughness in common agreement with the literature. A large part of energy produced by friction is dissipated in heat causing a local increases in temperature which a very short duration and called flash contact temperature, and that despite the fact that the temperature evolved in time and space, it all converged towards a perfectly distinguishable fixed point.

Evaluation under Semi-Controlled Conditions of the Pathogenicity of Three Isolates of Phaeoisariopsis personata (Berk. & M.A Curt.)

Peanut (Arachis hypogaea l.) late leaf spot is an important disease caused by Phaeoisariopsis personata (Berk. Et M. A Curt.). This fungus is responsible for the most damaging leaf spots in peanut production. The present experiment was undertaken to evaluate the pathogenic variability of Phaeoisariopsis personata in Burkina Faso. To this end, detached leaves and healthy plants of three peanut varieties were inoculated. Isolates I3TF, I2TG and I1TK of the pathogen (105 conidia/ml), collected respectively in the western, central and eastern agroecological zones of country, were used. The inoculated leaves were kept in Petri dishes on moist blotting paper and stored in the laboratory during the experimental period. The inoculated plants were grown under glass in pots containing a mixture of sterilized sand and clay. The development of disease was monitored and severity was scored every 15 days using rating scale. The results obtained in the laboratory and in the greenhouse revealed that there is pathogenic variability in the isolates tested. Indeed, for each variety, the highest severity score was recorded in plants inoculated with isolate I3TF and the lowest severity score with isolate I1TG. In the laboratory the severity scores ranged from 6.76 to 8.80 in TS32-1, 6.18 to 8.29 in SH70P and 5.98 to 7.92 in PC79-79. In the greenhouse, the average severity scores ranged from 5.61 to 8.33 in TS32-1, from 5.19 to 8.00 in SH70P, from 4.90 to 7.50 in PC79-79. Thus, the variety TS32-1 was the most susceptible to all three isolates of the pathogen.

Influence of Climate on Sugarcane Yield in Côte d’Ivoire: Case of the Ferkessédougou Region

This study aims to understand the current climatic trends and explain the possible losses of agricultural yields. To achieve this objective, this work characterized the evolution of extreme temperature indices in the sugar complexes of Ferké 1 and Ferké 2, two stations located in the northern part of C?te d'Ivoire. The onset and cessation dates of the rainy season and the length of the rainy season were investigated. The agricultural and climatic data were obtained from each sugar complex. The period of study ranges from 2002 to 2019 in Ferké 1 and Ferké 2. The results show significant upward trends in extreme temperature indices. The analysis of sugarcane yield associated with the different climatic parameters shows no significant results in general. However, on the Ferkessédougou sugar complexes, the results highlight that maximum and minimum temperatures could be the variables that influence most yield production. The maximum temperature with coefficients of 1.60 and 0.77 at Ferké 1 and Ferké 2 respectively seems to contribute to an increase in yield while the minimum temperature with coefficients of -0.98 and -0.22 at Ferké 1 and Ferké 2 respectively could lead to a loss in yield. The results obtained with the Single linear Regression (SlR) and the Multiple linear Regression (MlR) models also highlight the strong influence of minimum and maximum temperatures.

This study consisted to evaluate the effects of ecological practices on the yield performance of the JEWEl of orange-fleshed sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (l.) lam). The study was conducted in a Sudano-Sahelian cropping system (lantargou, eastern region of Burkina Faso). Agro-ecological practices consisted of the inputs of 3.20 t/ha of compost + 2.45 t/ha of wood ash (CO + WA);4.90 t/ha of wood ash (WA);6.40 t/ha of compost (CO) were compared to control with no inputs (T0). Each treatment was repeated four times. The crop management consisted of plowing, harrowing, raising of ridges with 40 cm height, burying of treatments, transplanting of cuttings, two weeding’s, and using of biopesticide called PIOl for crop protection. Composite soil samples per treatment were also collected at tuber harvest and analyzed to determine the effects of treatments on residual soil fertility. Results showed that the plant heights and diameters under the CO were significantly (P 0. The WA treatment significantly increased the number of large tubers by 43% (P ≤ 0.01) compared to T0. Total tuber numbers, large tuber numbers and tuber yields of sweet potato under CO + WA were significantly (P ly improved by 27%, 50% and 31% compared to T0. All treatments increased soil organic matter, N, P and K contents, and reduced soil acidity compared with those obtained under T0. Soil K content was improved by 39% under CO + WA, and soil N content by 34% under WA compared to T0. Soil C/N ratio under CO + WA was reduced by 20% compared others treatments. But, the CO + WA treatment outperformed by improving residual soil N content by 38%, and the WA treatment by increasing soil K content by 50% compared to T0. Climate Impact on the Productivity of Sugarcane Varieties in Ferke1 Industrial Plantations

This study assesses the climate impact on the productivity of five sugarcane varieties (R579, SP711406, M2593/92, M1400/86, and SP701006) in the industrial plantations of Ferké 1 sugar complex. It is a contribution to research efforts aimed at increasing the productivity of sugarcane varieties in the sugar fields. Also to support agricultural development and guarantee the income of planters. The sugarcane production data are from 2013 to 2017. Climatological data are measured and calculated continuously daily at the production site. In addition, the CMIP-5 (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project) climate database at 1º × 1º horizontal resolution was used for the predictability of crop yields of the 5 sugarcane varieties in the near future (2021-2050) and far future (2056-2075) to improve the quality of climate services to producers. The statistical methodological approach by multiple linear regression associated with the significativity test shows important and significant coefficients of determination (R2 > 0.90) between the yields of sugarcane varieties with certain climatic parameters such as minimum and maximum temperatures, insolation, global solar radiation, and potential evapotranspiration. The impact of rainfall has not been directly evaluated because the linear models do not explicitly show sensitivities to this parameter and the total water requirements for the plot are completely assured by irrigation. The future climate projections analyzed only from extreme thermal parameters (Tmax and Tmin) highlight their strong sensitivities with yields from an idealized model. In this model, we have assumed that the water supply needed by sugarcane is always met by irrigation on different plots. Moreover, linear models do not evolve fast enough in time and changes due to external environmental constraints are not too important at the plot scale.
