Liberica coffee as an alternative cropping system for sustainable farming on Indonesian Peatlands

Indonesian peatlands are a fragile ecosystem,and to protect it,growing Liberica coffee is a promising way for both the environment and the *** study aimed to evaluate the performance of the liberica coffee on peatland with different water tables and develop an improved cultivation system in this *** study area was in Tanjung Jabung Barat District,Jambi Province,*** plant age is greater than 15 years and the average plant density was about 1000 trees/*** study was conducted in two *** 1st stage was a survey to identify and characterize smallholder liberica coffee farming at three peatland zones,namely 0-100 m,200-300 m,and>400 m from the principal drainage canal,and the 2nd stage was a field experiment to test the effectiveness of amendments in improving liberica coffee growth and improving degraded *** treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications,including manure(M),at the rate of 10 t/hm^(2);lime(L),3 t/hm^(2);peat surface elevation(P),and a farmer’s practice(Control)without manure and/or lime as a *** research revealed that liberica coffee can not tolerate high water table as it may stimulate disease incidence and cause low-quality ***,recycling of organic C of about 17.14 t/(hm^(2)·a)through cherry residue application and litter compensated part of the loss of organic C through CO_(2)emissions,coffee bean removal,and maintaining peat fertility for sustainable *** low yield of(0.70±0.12)t/(hm^(2)∙a)coffee bean could be increased to(0.87±0.24)and(0.94±0.14)t/(hm^(2)∙a)by adding 3 t/(hm^(2)∙3a)of lime or 10 t/(hm^(2)∙a)of manure,*** research revealed that water table management and amendments are two main factors in liberica coffee farming on *** is of great significance to study the cultivation technology of coffee in peatland.

A decade of research on patterns and architectures for IoT security

Security of the Internet of Things (IoT)-based Smart Systems involving sensors, actuators and distributed control loop is of paramount importance but very difficult to address. Security patterns consist of domain-independent time-proven security knowledge and expertise. how are they useful for developing secure IoT-based smart systems? Are there architectures that support IoT security? We aim to systematically review the research work published on patterns and architectures for IoT security (and privacy). Then, we want to provide an analysis on that research landscape to answer our research questions. We follow the well-known guidelines for conducting systematic literature reviews. From thousands of candidate papers initially found in our search process, we have systematically distinguished and analyzed thirty-six (36) papers that have been peer-reviewed and published around patterns and architectures for IoT security and privacy in the last decade (January 2010–December 2020). Our analysis shows that there is a rise in the number of publications tending to patterns and architectures for IoT security in the last three years. We have not seen any approach of applying systematically architectures and patterns together that can address security (and privacy) concerns not only at the architectural level, but also at the network or IoT devices level. We also explored how the research contributions in the primary studies handle the different issues from the OWASP Internet of Things (IoT) top ten vulnerabilities list. Finally, we discuss the current gaps in this research area and how to fill in the gaps for promoting the utilization of patterns for IoT security and privacy by design.

As an advanced manufacturing technique,the advent of additive manufacturing(AM) has opened a new horizon of alternative ways to tackle the challenge of fundamental limits for manufacturing bulk metallic glasses(BMGs).In particular,selective laser melting(SLM),direct metal deposition(DMD),electron beam melting(EBM),and laser foil printing(LFP) have been used for producing BMGs with dimensions larger than what is possible using conventional techniques such as melt-spinning,suction-casting,die-casting,*** this review,we analyzed the current status,issues,structural evolution,and key properties of BMGs based on these emerging AM *** aim is to outline a direction for the development of BMGs using AM technology,establishing a fundamental principle to optimize processing parameters for designing alloy compositions with the high glass-forming ability(GFA),and thermal stability against *** will provide the fundamental science underpinning the future development of AM technology in the fabrication of high-density,defect-free,and completely amorphous alloy components and devices.

Probing the formation of ultrastable metallic glass from structural heterogeneity

Ultrastable metallic glasses(SMGs)exhibit enhanced stability comparable to those of conventional glasses aged for thousands of *** ability to understand why certain alloy compositions and processing conditions generate an SMG is an emerging ***,amplitude-modulation dynamic atomic force microscopy was utilized for tracking the structure of Zr_(50)Cu_(50),Zr_(50)Cu_(44.5)Al_(5.5)and Zr_(50)Cu_(41.5)Al_(5.5)Mo_(3) thin film metallic glasses(TFMGs)that were produced by direct current magnetron sputtering at room temperature with the rate of deposition being the only *** transition in stability from bulkto SMG-like behavior resides in the change of relaxation mechanism as the deposition rate is *** formation of SMGs is directly linked with the degree of structural heterogeneity,whereby MGs with greater heterogeneity have a higher potential to form SMGs with more significant enhancement in *** deposition rates,however,are required to yield the more homogenous structure and lower energy state underlying the *** is closely linked with the geometric shape and distribution of loosely packed phases,whereby SMGs containing more slender loosely packed phases with a more skewed distribution achieve more significant improvements in *** work not only provides direct evidence of the structure of SMGs,but also opens new horizons for the design of SMGs.

Controlled C-N configurations,i.e.,pyrrolic-N,pyridinic-N,and graphitic-N,are promising strategies to tailor the carbon dots’(CDs)optical properties into the first near infrared(NIR)window(650-900 nm),a responsive range for biomedical ***,a deep understanding of the role of the C-N configuration in the CDs’properties is still challenging and thoughtprovoking owing to their complex ***,an underlying pyrrolic-N concentration and position effect on the pyrrolic-N-rich CDs’absorption was comprehensively elucidated based on the integrated experimental and computational *** assynthesized pyrrolic-N-rich CDs exhibit a first NIR window absorption centered at 650 nm with high photothermal ***-N concentrations from 1.4%to 11.3%and positions(edge and mid-site)were systematically investigated.A mid-site pyrrolic-N was subsequently generated after the pyrrolic-N concentration more than 10%.Edge-site pyrrolic-N induces a frontier orbital hybridization,reducing bandgap energy,while mid-site pyrrolic-N plays a critical role in inducing a first NIR window absorption owing to their high charge ***,pyrrolic-N-rich CDs inherit a bowl-like topological feature,elevating the CDs’layer thickness as much as 0.71 *** study shed light on the design and optimization of pyrrolic-N on CDs for the first NIR window responsive materials in any biomedical application.

Crystallization of Mg-based bulk metallic glass

Mg-based bulk metallic glass fabricated by conventional copper mould method was aged at different temperatures. X-ray diffractometry(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), atomic force microscopy(AFM) and focused ion beam(FIB) miller were employed to examine specimens obtained under different conditions. The crystallization of Mg-based bulk metallic glass depends upon both the aging temperature and the aging time. As temperature increases or the holding time increases, the microstructure of the aged specimen varies from glassy one to crystalline one plus glassy phase and then to absolutely multiphase crystalline one. From the FIB images, it is clear that Mg-based bulk metallic glass could not only crystallize completely but also display dendrite-like growth style. From the AFM images, there are not only significant variations of microstructures but also surface morphology of specimens obtained under different conditions. It is proposed that the surface morphology varies as the treating temperature increases. The Vickers hardness of different specimens increases as the fraction of crystalline phase (s) increases.

A significant role for a future nuclear carbonfree energy production is attributed to fast reactors,mostly employing a liquid metal as a *** paper summarizes the efforts that have been undertaken in collaborative projects sponsored by the European Commission in the past 20 years in the fields of liquid-metal heat transfer modeling,fuel assembly and core thermal hydraulics,pool and system thermal hydraulics,and establishment of best practice guidelines and verification,validation,and uncertainty quantification(UQ).The achievements in these fields will be presented along with the prospects on topics which will be studied collaboratively in Europe in the years to *** prospects include further development of heat transfer models for applied computational fluid dynamics(CFD),further analysis of the consequences of fuel assembly blockages on coolant flow and temperature,analysis of the thermal hydraulic effects in deformed fuel assemblies,extended validation of three-dimensional pool thermal hydraulic CFD models,and further development and validation of multi-scale system thermal hydraulic methods.

There is extensive evidence indicating that the noradrenergic system of the amygdala, particularly the baso-lateral nucleus of the amygdala (BLA), is involved in memory consolidation. This article reviews the central hypothesis that stress hormones released during emotionally arousing experiences activate noradrenergic mechanisms in the BLA, resulting in enhanced memory for those events. Findings from experiments using rats have shown that the memory-modulatory effects of the adreno-cortical stress hormones epinephrine and glucocorticoids involve activation of β-adrenoceptors in the BLA. In addition, both behavioral and microdialysis studies have shown that the noradrenergic system of the BLA also mediates the influences of other neuromodulatory systems such as opioid peptidergic and GABAergic systems on memory storage. Other findings indicate that this stress hormone-induced activation of noradrenergic mechanisms in the BLA regulates memory storage in other brain regions.

Enhancing Security for Legacy Factory Machines: A Continuous Key Renewal Algorithm for Securing Group of Machines

Companies are generally focused on how to improve their global performance. Concepts, methods and tools are regularly used to transform them. Key performance indicators are used to measure how performance is increased. Industry 4.0 concepts and sustainability expectations actually contribute to this performance improvement. Indeed, cybersecurity as one of these concepts is required to increase the company performance. Even if it is well-known and applied in companies through the protection of their information systems, progress is expected in research on how to ensure the security of data and factory processes in the manufacturing, as the number of cyberattacks towards industries is growing these last few years. This paper aims to increase the company performance and sustainability to enforce factory machines protection by creating private security network groups. But currently, most of the Programmable Logic Controller PLC protocols have not been securely designed. Thus, the creation of secure groups of machines by combining strong authentication, strong or lightweight ciphering, and data stream integrity is proposed. The security is enforced by a continuous key’s renewal algorithm. An experiment on an industry’s architecture has been led to validate the concepts of the proposition. The study is compared to existing OPC-UA and MACsec standards in terms of drawbacks and advantages. This work could be implemented in hardware for further performance improvement.

Softening of phonon spectra in metallic glasses
