This paper describes a conceptual design study for the circuit configuration of the Error Field Correction Coil （EFCC） power supply （PS） to maximize the expected performance with reasonable cost in JT-60SA. The EFCC consists of eighteen sector coils installed inside the vacuum vessel, six in the toroidal direction and three in the poloidal direction, each one rated for 30 kA-turn. As a result, star point connection is proposed for each group of six EFCC coils installed cyclically in the toroidal direction for decoupling with poloidal field coils. In addition~ a six phase inverter which is capable of controlling each phase current was chosen as PS topology to ensure higher flexibility of operation with reasonable cost.

In this work, the non-isothermal dissolution kinetics of the sigma phase in duplex stainless steels has been studied and modelled. A semi-empirical model is proposed to describe the kinetics of sigma phase precipitation/dissolution during continuous heating starting from the isothermal transformation kinetics. The proposed model, which presumes validity of the additivity rule, is validated by means of experimental investigations. A good agreement is found between experimental and analytical results.

Sediment delivery ratio can be used as a measure of sediment connectivity and it can be linked to the structural connectivity(morphological unit, slope length, slope steepness, travel time) of a basin and to the functional connectivity(rainfall-runoff processes at morphological unit scale). In this paper the sediment connectivity approach was applied at basin scale both using Sediment Delivery Distributed(SEDD) model, which takes into account the hillslope sediment transport, and sediment yield measurements carried out at SPA2 experimental basin(Sicily, Italy). The expression of the sediment delivery ratio SDRi of a morphological unit was modified for highlighting two components corresponding to the structural(SDR_(L,i)) and functional(SDR_(F,i)) sediment connectivity, respectively. For SPA2 basin the frequency distribution of the travel time of each morphological unit was used to estimate the coefficient βL of the structural component of the sediment delivery ratio of each morphological unit. Then, using the sediment yield measurements carried out at the outlet of the experimental SPA2 basin in the period April 2000-March 2015, the SEDD model was calibrated at event scale for estimating the coefficient βF of the functional component of the sediment delivery ratio. At event scale the developed analysis stated that the functional connectivity is dependent on the magnitude of erosion events. Intermediate and high events, which were characterized by the lowest values of the functional coefficient, determine a more high functional connectivity and are characterized by a more efficient sediment transport along the hillslopes. Finally, at annual scale, the model was calibrated for the period 2000-2015 and relationships for estimating the coefficient βF,a of the functional component of the sediment delivery ratio taking into account the intensity of erosion events occurring in each year were determined. Pancreatic cancer is a highly aggressive tumour that is very resistant to treatments and it is rarely diagnosed early because of absence of specific symptoms. Therefore, the prognosis for this disease is very poor and it has the grim supremacy in terms of unfavourable survival rates. There have been great advances in survival rates for many types of cancers over the past few decades but hardly any change for pancreatic cancer. Mutations of the Ras oncogene are the most frequent oncogenic alterations in human cancers. The frequency of kRAS mutations in pancreatic cancer is around 90%. Given the well-established role of kRAS in cancer it is not surprising that it is one of the most attractive targets for cancer therapy. Nevertheless, during the last thirty years all attempts to target directly kRAS protein have failed. Therefore, it is crucial to identify downstream kRAS effectors in order to develop specific drugs able to counteract activation of this pathway. Among the different signalling pathways activated by oncogenic kRAS, the phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3k) pathway is emerging as one of the most critical kRAS effector. In turn, PI3 k activates several parallel pathways making the identification of the precise effectors activated by kRAS/PI3 k more difficult. Recent data identify 3-phosphoinositide-dependent protein kinase 1 as a key tumour-initiating event downstream kRAS interaction with PI3 k in pancreatic cancer.

Impaired endothelial progenitor cells mobilization: a novel concept for reduce post-ischemia neovascularization in diabetes

Objective The aim of the present study was to explore potential mechanism underlying reduced basal circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in diabetes, and to determine how diabetes impairs ischemia-induced mobilization of bone marrow-derived EPCs. Methods Circulating c-kit+/Sca-1+/flk-1+ EPCs and CD31bright/Annexin V+ endothelial microparticles (EMPs) were analyzed by flow cytometry in control and streptozotocin-induced diabetic C57BL/6 mice. Results Compared with nondiabetic controls, diabetic mice had lower level of circulating EPCs, higher level of plasma EMPs, and increased ratio of EMPs to EPCs. Circulating EMPs count and EPCs level were negatively associated with each other. In a hindlimb ischemia model, diabetes suppressed bone marrow-derived EPCs mobilization, accompanied by insufficient upregulaiton of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and over-activation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) system. As a consequence, diabetic mice showed deficient increase of capillary density and hampered restoration of transcutaneous oxygen pressure (tcpO2) in the ischemic *** These results suggest that lower circulating EPCs level detected in diabetes may be partly attributed to consumptive loss of EPCs due to increased endothelial damage. Impairment in ischemia-induced EPCs mobilization presents a novel mechanism for defective post-ischemia neovascularization in diabetes.
