Bituminous sub-ballast is an alternative solution to the unbound granular sub-ballast used in the railway track due to several benefits that it can provide. Indeed, it contributes to maintain the moisture content in the subgrade unchanged during all year. This decreases the subgrade deterioration process. Moreover, the presence of bituminous sub-ballast can also reduce vertical stiffness variations on the track; it can have a positive effect in the maintenance needs at transition sections （bridge-embankment） and in the attenuation of the vibrations induced by the rail traffic. Despite the importance of the presence of the bituminous sub-ballast to conceive the construction and/or rehabilitation of sustainable infrastructure, in literature, there are only fragmentary information regarding the definition of benchmark criteria for their mix design. The superpave mix design approach used in road domain is applied systematically in the railway domain, without being adjusted for different load configuration of the rail track system. This research work aims at defining the benchmark criteria for the bituminous sub-ballast mix design to reduce the approximations involved in the recipe optimization due to the limitation of applying the superpave system in the railway domain. The methodology proposed aims at selecting the RESAL （rail equivalent single axle load） and therefore, transforming the entire traffic spectrum on the track lines in number of ESALs. Afterwards, the Ndesign has been calculated as function of the rail traffic level. Finally, a case study of bituminous sub-ballast mix design has been investigated for a first verification of the methodology proposed.

The impact of temperature on the mechanical properties and thermal susceptibility of the railway bituminous sub-ballastlayer, has served as motivation to develop the advanced measurement of thermal cycles in this layer and, an evaluation of the averageseasonal temperatures interpolated by sinusoidal functions, of which characteristic parameters are determined. According to weathersituation, Barber＇s temperature model was used to prove the effectiveness for the railway superstructure. It is included the assessmentof improved modified asphalt mixes performed with coarse rubber from scrap tires, having 1.5 to 3 percent of crumb rubber （particlesize 0.2-4 mm） by weight of the total mix, as sub-ballast layer in railway and base layers on roads, recurring to the Superpave mixdesign compaction enhanced after computer simulations to evaluate real stresses derived from the rail traffic and climatic *** article following the assessment of the average seasonal temperatures, involves the characterization of rubberized materials withattention to crumb rubber properties, designed with dry technology, to enhance the bitumen-rubber and binder-voids ratios. Indirecttensile strength and water sensitivity tests were applied for the evaluation of its mechanical properties including dynamic complexmodulus at elevated temperature to measure the amount of bitumen absorbed by the rubber. The rubberized mix-results obtained andthe comparison with a conventional HMA （hot mix asphalt） show that these dry rubber bituminous mixtures are particularly effective indamping vibrations. The purpose of using rubber modifiers in hot mix asphalt to obtain a stiffer-elastic sustainable material has beenachieved for the assessment of its behavior in sub-ballast/base layers.

Biotransformation of 6:2 fluorotelomer sulfonate(6:2 FTS)by two species of white-rot fungi,Pleurotus ostreatus(***)and Trametopsis cervina(***),was investigated in a sulfurrich medium designed to stimulate production of lignin-degrading *** of 6:2 FTS was observed by *** over the study period of 30 d,but not by *** rates were comparable to those found in other studies investigating mixed culture degradation in nonsulfur limiting media,with approximately 50 mol%of applied 6:2 FTS removed after 30 *** transformation products were short-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids(PFCAs),including PFHxA(2.27 mol%),PFPeA(0.24 mol%),and PFBA(0.28 mol%).The main intermediate products include 5:2 sFTOH(16.3 mol%)and 5:3 FTCA(2.99 mol%),while 6:2 FTCA,6:2 FTuCA,and 5:2 ketone were also identified at low *** 60 mol%of detected products were assigned to the major pathway to 5:2 ketone,and 40 mol%were assigned to the minor pathway to 5:3 *** overall molar balance was found to decrease to 75 mol%by Day 30,however,was closed to near 95 mol%with a theoretical estimation for the volatile intermediates in the headspace,5:2 ketone and 5:2 *** different capabilities of the two white-rot fungal species for 6:2 FTS biotransformation in sulfur-rich media suggest that the enzyme processes of *** to de-sulfonate 6:2 FTS may be unrelated to sulfur metabolism.

The glacial history of Pico de Orizaba indicates that during the Last Glacial Maximum,its icecap covered up to~3000 m asl;due to the air temperature increasing,its main glacier has retreated to 5050 m *** retraction of the glacier has left behind an intense climatic instability that causes a high frequency of freeze-thaw cycles of great intensity;the resulting geomorphological processes are represented by the fragmentation of the bedrock that occupies the upper parts of the *** is a notable lack of studies regarding the fragmentation and erosion occurring in tropical high mountains,and the associated geomorphological risks;for this reason,as a first stage of future continuous research,this study analyzes the freezing and thawing cycles that occur above 4000 m asl,through continuous monitoring of surface ground *** results allow us to identify and characterize four zones:glacial,paraglacial,periglacial and *** was found that the paraglacial zone presents an intense drop of temperature,of up to~9℃ in only sixty *** rock fatigue and intense freeze-thaw cycles that occur in this area are responsible for the high rate of rock disintegration and represent the main factor of the constant slope dynamics that occur at the *** activity decreases,both in frequency and intensity,according to the distance to the glacier,which is where the temperature presents a certain degree of stability,until reaching the proglacial zone,where cycles are almost non-existent,and therefore there is no gelifraction *** geomorphological processes have resulted in significant alterations to the mountain slopes,which can have severe consequences in terms of risk and water.

The first dinosaur discovered in the Antarctic continent was the ankylosaur Antarctopelta oliveroi in the ***,since then several hypotheses of phylogenetical relationships have been proposed because these have been depended on how the skeletal remains have been *** main obstacle for clarifying its phylogenetic position is that many portions of the skeleton remain unknown,in addition to the presence of unknown characters in typical *** an ankylosaurid,nodosaurid,or even a chimaera,a recent proposal based on mostly complete material of a new ankylosaur from Chilean Patagonia provided support for a novel phylogenetic hypothesis:Antarctopelta and other southern ankylosaurs are an early branching clade,the Parankylosauria,whose origin probably dates to the Late *** the light of this new view,a redescription of the available skeletal remains is provided together with a new reconstruction of the first Antarctic dinosaur known to the science community.

Wind direction nowcasting is crucial in various sectors,particularly for ensuring aviation operations and *** this context,the TELMo(Time-series Embeddings from Language Models)model,a sophisticated deep learning architecture,has been introduced in this work for enhanced wind-direction *** by using three years of data from multiple stations in the complex terrain of an international airport,TELMo incorporates the horizontal u(east-west)and v(north-south)wind components to significantly reduce forecasting *** a day with high wind direction variability,TELMo achieved mean absolute error values of 5.66 for 2-min,10.59 for 10-min,and 14.79 for 20-min forecasts,processed within a swift 9-ms/step *** degree-based analysis,in comparison,yielded lower performance,emphasizing the effectiveness of the u and v *** contrast,a Vanilla neural network,representing a shallow-learning approach,underperformed in all analyses,highlighting the superiority of deep learning methodologies in wind direction *** is an efficient model,capable of accurately forecasting wind direction for air traffic operations,with an error less than 20°in 97.49%of the predictions,aligning with recommended international *** model design enables its applicability across various geographical locations,making it a versatile tool in global aviation meteorology.
