This letter praises a recent article in the World Journal of Clinical Cases(Roles of biochemistry data,lifestyle,and inflammation in identifying abnormal renal function in old Chinese),examining factors affecting abnormal renal function in elderly Chinese using advanced machine learning.It highlights the importance of uric acid,age,hemoglobin,body mass index,sport hours,and systolic blood pressure.The study's holistic approach,integrating lifestyle and inflammation,offers a nuanced understanding of chronic kidney disease risk factors.The letter suggests exploring mechanistic pathways of hyperuricemia,the link between anemia and renal function,and the connection between body mass index and estimated glomerular filtration rate.It advocates investigating physical activity's impact on renal health and the independent effects of blood pressure.The study significantly contributes to chronic kidney disease understanding,proposing avenues for further exploration and interventions.Commendations are extended to the authors and the journal.

Due to the limitations in autogenous nerve grafting or Schwann cell transplantation,large gap peripheral nerve injuries require a bridging strategy supported by nerve conduit.Cell based therapies provide a novel treatment for peripheral nerve injuries.In this study,we first experimented an optimal scaffold material synthesis protocol,from where we selected the 10%GFD formula(10%GelMA hydrogel,recombinant human basic fibroblast growth factor and dental pulp stem cells(DpSCs))to fill a cellulose/soy protein isolate composite membrane(CSM)tube to construct a third generation of nerve regeneration conduit,CSM-GFD.Then this CSM-GFD conduit was applied to repair a 15-mm long defect of sciatic nerve in a rat model.After 12 week post implant surgery,at histologic level,we found CSM-GFD conduit could regenerate nerve tissue like neuron and Schwann like nerve cells and myelinated nerve fibers.At physical level,CSM-GFD achieved functional recovery assessed by a sciatic functional index study.In both levels,CSM-GFD performed like what gold standard,the nerve autograft,could do.Further,we unveiled that almost all newly formed nerve tissue at defect site was originated from the direct differentiation of exogeneous DpSCs in CSM-GFD.In conclusion,we claimed that this third-generation nerve regeneration conduit,CSM-GFD,could be a promising tissue engineering approach to replace the conventional nerve autograft to treat the large gap defect in peripheral nerve injuries.

Kidney transplantation is the best option for kidney replacement therapy,even considering that most of the times the grafts do not survive as long as their recipients.In the Khalil et al's experience,published in this issue of the Journal,they analyze their second kidney graft survival and describe those significant predictors of early loss.This editorial comments on the results and put in perspective that most of the times,long-term graft survival could be inadvertently jeopardized if the immunosuppressive therapy is reduced or withdrawn for any reason,and that it could happen frequently if the transplant physician intends to innovate with the clinical care without proper evidence-based data.

Endometrial stromal cell decidualization is a crucial step in endometrial remodeling during pregnancy. Decidualization is controlled by orchestrated ovarian hormones, followed by the activation of various downstream signaling pathways. Accumulating evidence has shown multiple functions of decidualized endometrial stromal cells during embryo implantation, including tissue remodeling, antioxidative stress, angiogenesis, and immune tolerance. The distinct secretomes of decidualized stromal cells also reveal their intensive interactions with epithelial, endothelial, and immune cells. However, aberrant decidualization leads to pregnancy failures, such as recurrent pregnancy loss and repeated implantation failure. This review aimed to provide an overview of the molecular mechanisms underlying the divergent functions of decidualized endometrial stromal cells and their potential clinical applications. Moreover, the use of single-cell RNA sequencing data further enhances our understanding of these biological processes. This review discusses decidualization-related signaling pathways that serve as potential therapeutic targets for treating implantation failure inin vitro fertilization and provides novel approaches to investigate the underlying causes of female infertility.

To maximize conversion efficiency,photovoltaic(pV)systems generally operate in the maximum power point tracking(MppT)mode.However,due to the increasing penetra tion level of pV systems,there is a need for more developed control functions in terms of frequency support services and voltage control to maintain the reliability and stability of the power grid.Therefore,flexible active power control is a manda tory task for grid-connected pV systems to meet part of the grid requirements.Hence,a significant number of flexible pow er point tracking(FppT)algorithms have been introduced in the existing literature.The purpose of such algorithms is to real ize a cost-effective method to provide grid support functional ities while minimizing the reliance on energy storage systems.This paper provides a comprehensive overview of grid support functionalities that can be obtained with the FppT control of pV systems such as frequency support and volt-var control.Each of these grid support functionalities necessitates pV sys tems to operate under one of the three control strategies,which can be provided with FppT algorithms.The three control strate gies are classified as:①constant power generation control(Cp GC),②power reserve control(pRC),and③power ramp rate control(pRRC).A detailed discussion on available FppT algo rithms for each control strategy is also provided.This paper can serve as a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art FppT algorithms that can equip pV systems with various grid support functionalities.

Agricultural practices currently contribute to the emission of approximately 10%–12%atmospheric greenhouse gasses,with tillage agriculture accelerating soil disruption and carbon dioxide release.Nevertheless,various options exist,such as converting new lands for agriculture,promoting healthier plant-based diets,adopting advanced management technologies,and minimizing food loss.However,these measures alone are insufficient to ensure environmental sustainability within planetary boundaries.

Objective: Metabolomics has been extensively utilized in bladder cancer (BCa) research, employing mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to compare various variables (tissues, serum, blood, and urine). This study aimed to identify potential biomarkers for early BCa diagnosis.Methods: A search strategy was designed to identify clinical trials, descriptive and analytical observational studies from databases such as Medline, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences. Inclusion criteria comprised studies involving BCa tissue, serum, blood, or urine profiling using widely adopted metabolomics techniques like mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance. primary outcomes included description of metabolites and metabolomics profiling in BCa patients and the association of metabolites and metabolomics profiling with BCa diagnosis compared to control patients. The risk of bias was assessed using the Quality Assessment of Studies of Diagnostic Accuracy.Results: The search strategy yielded 2832 studies, of which 30 case-control studies were included. Urine was predominantly used as the primary sample for metabolite identification. Risk of bias was often unclear inpatient selection, blinding of the index test, and reference standard assessment, but no applicability concerns were observed. Metabolites and metabolomics profiles associated with BCa diagnosis were identified in glucose, amino acids, nucleotides, lipids, and aldehydes metabolism.Conclusion: The identified metabolites in urine included citric acid, valine, tryptophan, taurine, aspartic acid, uridine, ribose, phosphocholine, and carnitine. Tissue samples exhibited elevated levels of lactic acid, amino acids, and lipids. Consistent findings across tissue, urine, and serum samples revealed downregulation of citric acid and upregulation of lactic acid, valine, tryptophan, taurine, glutamine, aspartic acid, uridine, ribose, and phosphocholine.

Since the pioneering work by Broca and Wernicke in the 19th century,who examined individuals with brain lesions to associate them with specific behaviors,it was evident that behaviors are complex and cannot be fully attributable to specific brain areas alone.Instead,they involve connectivity among brain areas,whether close or distant.At that time,this approach was considered the optimal way to dissect brain circuitry and function.These pioneering efforts opened the field to explore the necessity or sufficiency of brain areas in controlling behavior and hence dissecting brain function.However,the connectivity of the brain and the mechanisms through which various brain regions regulate specific behaviors,either individually or collaboratively,remain largely elusive.Utilizing animal models,researchers have endeavored to unravel the necessity or sufficiency of specific brain areas in influencing behavior;however,no clear associations have been firmly established.

The aim of this work is to predict, for the first time, the high temperature flow stress dependency with the grain size and the underlaid deformation mechanism using two machine learning models, random forest（RF） and artificial neural network（ANN）. With that purpose, a ZK30 magnesium alloy was friction stir processed（FSp） using three different severe conditions to obtain fine grain microstructures（with average grain sizes between 2 and 3 μm） prone to extensive superplastic response. The three friction stir processed samples clearly deformed by grain boundary sliding（GBS） deformation mechanism at high temperatures. The maximum elongations to failure, well over 400% at high strain rate of 10-2s-1, were reached at 400 ℃ in the material with coarsest grain size of 2.8 μm, and at 300 ℃ for the finest grain size of 2 μm. Nevertheless, the superplastic response decreased at 350 ℃ and 400 ℃ due to thermal instabilities and grain coarsening, which makes it difficult to assess the operative deformation mechanism at such temperatures. This work highlights that the machine learning models considered, especially the ANN model with higher accuracy in predicting flow stress values, allow determining adequately the superplastic creep behavior including other possible grain size scenarios.

We apply stochastic seismic inversion and Bayesian facies classification for porosity modeling and igneous rock identification in the presalt interval of the Santos Basin. This integration of seismic and well-derived information enhances reservoir characterization. Stochastic inversion and Bayesian classification are powerful tools because they permit addressing the uncertainties in the model. We used the ES-MDA algorithm to achieve the realizations equivalent to the percentiles p10, p50, and p90 of acoustic impedance, a novel method for acoustic inversion in presalt. The facies were divided into five: reservoir 1,reservoir 2, tight carbonates, clayey rocks, and igneous rocks. To deal with the overlaps in acoustic impedance values of facies, we included geological information using a priori probability, indicating that structural highs are reservoir-dominated. To illustrate our approach, we conducted porosity modeling using facies-related rock-physics models for rock-physics inversion in an area with a well drilled in a coquina bank and evaluated the thickness and extension of an igneous intrusion near the carbonate-salt interface. The modeled porosity and the classified seismic facies are in good agreement with the ones observed in the wells. Notably, the coquinas bank presents an improvement in the porosity towards the top. The a priori probability model was crucial for limiting the clayey rocks to the structural lows. In Well B, the hit rate of the igneous rock in the three scenarios is higher than 60%, showing an excellent thickness-prediction capability.
