Management of lung cancer in the COVID-19 pandemic:a review

Since its inception,the COVID-19 pandemic has affected health care as a whole.Cancer patients in general and those suffering from lung cancer in particular are a vulnerable group because of their many intrinsic characteristics and care needs.How SARS-CoV-2(COVID-19)infection affects these patients regarding their risk of infection and outcome in this patient cohort is still to be determined.In this review,we tried to summarize our main concerns regarding COVID-19 in the context of cancer patients from a clinical and multidisciplinary approach.Different types of lung cancer treatments(chemotherapy,radiation therapy and immunotherapy)may also influence the risk of infection and condition the patient´s risk of having a worse outcome.Lung cancer patients require frequent radiologic study follow-ups,which may be affected by COVID-19 pandemic.COVID-19 related incidental radiologic findings can appear in routinely scheduled radiology tests,which may be difficult to interpret.Also cancer treatment induced pneumonitis may have similar radiologic features similar to those in acute SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia and lead to a wrong diagnosis.The different health care needs,the requirement for continuous health care access and follow-ups,and the clinical traials in which this patient population might be enrrolled are all being affected by the current COVID-19 health crisis.The COVID-19 pandemic has put health care providers and institutions in difficult situations and obliged them to face challenging ethical scenarios.These issues,in turn,have also affected the psychological well-being of health care workers.

Emerging patterns in the construction of Sejima’s,Sanaa’s and Nishizawa’s domestic spaces,from 1987 to 2010

Sejima and Nishizawa have developed their work without explicitly referencing a theoretical discourse.However,they have stated that their housing projects describe their"architectural biography."This study presents the hypothesis that systermic theories had infu-enced their housing projects at a spatial and constructive Level.With the aim of testing it,the research produces four lines of results.Firstly,we observe that the word system is prominently current in a signifcant sample of their published texts.We describe how architects like Tomi-naga,Ito,Taki,and Shinohara,who infuenced Sejima when she was still a student,discussed this concept inspired by Christopher Alexander's texts.The second line brings together all the couple's single-family housing projects published between 1987 and 2010 for the first time in a single document,as well as an original graphic-constructive reconstruction of the most outstanding ones.Thirdly,we unveil the emergence of four constructive patterns by applying these theories to the graphic material developed.Finally,we summarize the results in dia-grams,showing the frequency,intensity,and continuity of the identified patterns in the four phases throughout the studied period.Verifying the hypothesis facilitates further research relate their domestic work and their other types of projects.

Exercise interventions for patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus:A narrative review with practical recommendations

Type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1DM)is a chronic endocrine disease that results from autoimmune destruction of pancreatic insulin-producingβcells,which can lead to microvascular(e.g.,retinopathy,neuropathy,and nephropathy)and macrovascular complications(e.g.,coronary arterial disease,peripheral artery disease,stroke,and heart failure)as a consequence of chronic hyperglycemia.Despite the widely available and compelling evidence that regular exercise is an efficient strategy to prevent cardiovascular disease and to improve functional capacity and psychological well-being in people with T1DM,over 60%of individuals with T1DM do not exercise regularly.It is,therefore,crucial to devise approaches to motivate patients with T1DM to exercise,to adhere to a training program,and to inform them of its specific characteristics(e.g.,exercise mode,intensity,volume,and frequency).Moreover,given the metabolic alterations that occur during acute bouts of exercise in T1DM patients,exercise prescription in this population should be carefully analyzed to maximize its benefits and to reduce its potential risks.

NANOGrav hints on planet-mass primordial black holes

Recently, the North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves(NANOGrav) claimed the detection of a stochastic common-spectrum process of the pulsar timing array(PTA) time residuals from their 12.5 year data, which might be the first detection of the stochastic background of gravitational waves(GWs). We show that the amplitude and the power index of such waves imply that they could be the secondary GWs induced by the peaked curvature perturbation with a dust-like post inflationary era with-0.091 ≤ w ≤ 0.048. Such stochastic background of GWs naturally predicts substantial existence of planet-mass primordial black holes(PBHs), which can be the lensing objects for the ultrashort-timescale microlensing events observed by the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment(OGLE).

Design Method of Reversely Switched Dynistor Based Pulse Circuit Without Magnetic Switch

In the reversely switched dynistor(RSD)-based pulse power circuits,a magnetic switch is usually necessary to be applied together with a main switch.It occupies space and needs a magnetic reset.In this paper,a method of designing a RSD-based pulse circuit without a magnetic switch is proposed.In the pulse circuit,a RBDT(reverse blocking diode thyristor)is used to separate the two capacitors and provide an energy branch.The pre-charge time of the RSD can be guaranteed by the energy conversion between the capacitors and inductors,instead of the saturation of the magnetic switch.In addition,the energy which is reused to trigger the RSD is based on an inductor.The pulse circuit is evaluated by simulations and practical experiments.According to the experimental results,the factors affecting the load pulse current and triggering of the RSD and RBDT are studied.Meanwhile,a method to reduce the current in the trigger switch,which is a potential problem in the pulse circuit,is proposed.

Investigation of kinetics in bioaugmentation of crude oil via high-throughput sequencing: Enzymatic activities, bacterial community composition and functions

The enzymes and the characteristics of the community of the petroleum-degrading bacteria play a crucial role in the crude oil biodegradation. The prediction of kinetics of the key groups of hydrocarbons in crude oil was important to evaluate the bioremediation speed and constant. Most of the n-alkanes(C9-C29) were degraded in 25 days, and the average degradation rates of C_(18)~C_(27) higher than 100 μg g^(-1) d^(-1).The hopanes, such as H_(30), had a biodegradation rate more than 10 μg g^(-1) d^(-1). The related enzymes activities changed along with the crude oil biodegradation, especially dehydrogenase. The 16 S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing revealed that Proteobacteria, Firmcutes, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, Acidobacteria were the main petroleum hydrocarbon degraders during the crude oil biodegradation, and the top two highest relative abundance of the genera were Alcaligenes and Acinetobacter. Acinetobacter presented positive correlation to biodegradation of n-alkanes and PAHs. Based on COG analysis, the largest group involved in the general function was amino acid transport and metabolism. The functional categories of bacterial communities were mainly focused on the carbohydrate and amino acid metabolism, xenobiotics biodegradation and metabolism, membrane transport, and so on. Overall, these findings highlight the potential guideline for more adequate monitoring of microbial degradation of crude oil.

Investigation of carbon dioxide photoreduction process in a laboratory-scale photoreactor by computational fluid dynamic and reaction kinetic modeling

The production of solar fuels via the photoreduction of carbon dioxide to methane by titanium oxide is a promising process to control greenhouse gas emissions and provide alternative renewable fuels. Although several reaction mechanisms have been proposed, the detailed steps are still ambiguous, and the limiting factors are not well defined. To improve our understanding of the mechanisms of carbon dioxide photoreduction, a multiphysics model was developed using COMSOL. The novelty of this work is the computational fluid dynamic model combined with the novel carbon dioxide photoreduction intrinsic reaction kinetic model, which was built based on three-steps, namely gas adsorption, surface reactions and desorption, while the ultraviolet light intensity distribution was simulated by the Gaussian distribution model and Beer-Lambert model. The carbon dioxide photoreduction process conducted in a laboratory-scale reactor under different carbon dioxide and water moisture partial pressures was then modeled based on the intrinsic kinetic model. It was found that the simulation results for methane, carbon monoxide and hydrogen yield match the experiments in the concentration range of 10^(−4) mol·m^(–3) at the low carbon dioxide and water moisture partial pressure. Finally, the factors of adsorption site concentration, adsorption equilibrium constant, ultraviolet light intensity and temperature were evaluated.
