The challenging management of malignant ureteral obstruction:Analysis of a series of 188 cases

Blood Flow Simulation in the Femoral Artery

This paper presents the development of the blood flow simulation in two dimensions over the real geometry of the femoral artery. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved using the finite element method, to obtain the distributions of the blood pressure and flow velocity in multiple instants of time and different places of the femoral artery and thus determine the current condition of the blood vessels. The velocity field shows a laminar behavior,where, the velocity is higher in the center of the artery and decreases as the blood flow approaches artery walls. In spite of all artery and blood flow properties not being considered, the values of pressure and velocity obtained are within the normal ranges. Finally the model is used to verify if there exist irregularities in the blood flow in both healthy subjects and sick patients.

Multiple sclerosis(MS)is a leading cause of chronic neurological disability in young to middle-aged adults,affecting~2.5 million people ***,most therapeutics for MS are systemic immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory drugs,but these drugs are unable to halt or reverse the disease and have the potential to cause serious adverse ***,there is an urgent need for the development of next-generation treatments that,alone or in combination,stop the undesired autoimmune response and contribute to the restoration of *** review analyzes current MS treatments as well as different cell-based therapies that have been proposed to restore homeostasis in MS patients(tolerogenic dendritic cells,regulatory T cells,mesenchymal stem cells,and vaccination with T cells).Data collected from preclinical studies performed in the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis(EAE)model of MS in animals,in vitro cultures of cells from MS patients and the initial results of phase I/II clinical trials are analyzed to better understand which parameters are relevant for obtaining an efficient cell-based therapy for MS.

Comparative Analysis of Different Evaluation Functions for Protein Structure Prediction Under the HP Model

The HP model for protein structure prediction abstracts the fact that hydrophobicity is a dominant force in the protein folding process. This challenging combinatorial optimization problem has been widely addressed through metaheuristics. The evaluation function is a key component for the success of metaheuristics; the poor discrimination of the conventional evaluation function of the HP model has motivated the proposal of alternative formulations for this component. This comparative analysis inquires into the effectiveness of seven different evaluation functions for the HP model. The degree of discrimination provided by each of the studied functions, their capability to preserve a rank ordering among potential solutions which is consistent with the original objective of the HP model, as well as their effect on the performance of local search methods are analyzed. The obtained results indicate that studying alternative evaluation schemes for the HP model represents a highly valuable direction which merits more attention.

The present article reports the study of local anisotropic effects on Durgapal's fourth model in the context of gravitational decoupling via the minimal geometric deformation *** achieve this,the most general equation of state relating the components of the−θsector is imposed to obtain the decoupler function f(r).In addition,certain properties of the obtained solution,such as the behavior of the salient material content threading the stellar interior;causality and energy conditions;hydrostatic balance through the modified Tolman−Oppenheimer−Volkoff conservation equation and stability mechanism against local anisotropies using the adiabatic index;sound velocity of the pressure waves;convection factor;and the Harrison−Zeldovich−Novikov procedure,are investigated to check whether the model is physically admissible or *** the stability analysis,it is found that the model presents unstable regions when the sound speed of the pressure waves and convection factor are used in distinction with the adiabatic index and Harrison−Zeldovich−Novikov *** produce a more realistic picture,the numerical data for some known compact objects were determined and different values of the parameterαwere considered to compare with the GR case,i.e.,α=0.

Synthesis of PbS:ZnO nanotrees by thermal evaporation:morphological,structural and optical properties

Nanotrees ZnO films are synthesized by thermal evaporation method on silicon and glass substrates-PbS powder(5 wt%)is used to obtain the nanostructure and growth modifications·ZnO films are compared with non-doped ones(ZnO film was dense structure without nanotrees).The deposited PbS:ZnO films exhibit polycrystalline orientation using X-ray diffraction(XRD),but the films without doping was less crystalline quality·Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and atomic force microscopy(AFM)were used to characterize the morphology·SEM images(surface and cross section)was confirmed the nanotrees form for doped ZnO *** dispersive X-ray detector(EDX)was used to verify the composition of prepared films·Ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis),photoluminescence(PL)and micro Raman techniques were used to investigate the optical properties·The PL spectra intensities were found to increase for PbS:ZnO *** to our knowledge,no work has been published regarding the obtained ZnO nanotrees using Pb S as dopant via simple thermal evaporation method.

This study examines technological capability accumulation and the Brazilian rice industry's technological *** case design was chosen,with an analysis of seven firms involved in the Brazilian rice *** results indicate three factors:The first was the identification of technological landmarks for firms in this sector(peeling and polishing,electronic grain selection,electronic packaging,use of forklifts and palletizers,and Industry 4.0).The second is related to the fact that different firms implemented innovative activities and technologies at different speeds,originating from the sector's different technological *** third is associated with identifying activities within the Brazilian rice industry that can be generalized to other food *** results have implications for formulating public policies in the sector,such as creating producer support mechanisms(research and technology transfer institutions),qualification of professionals,and encouragement for economic efficiency and competition.

Animals that feed from resources that are constant in space and that refill may benefit from repeating the order in which they visit *** is a behavior known as traplining,a spatial ***,like other central-place foragers,use short traplines when moving between several rewarding *** we investigated whether traplining hummingbirds also use relevant temporal information when choosing which flowers to *** rufous hummingbirds that were allowed to visit 3 artificial flower patches in which flowers were refilled 20 min after they had been depleted repeated the order in which they visited the 3 *** they tended to visit the first 2 patches sooner than 20 min,they visited the third patch at approximately 20-min inter*** time between visits to the patches increased across the experiment,suggesting that the birds learned to wait longer before visiting a *** birds appeared to couple the sequential pattern of a trapline with temporal regularity,to some *** suggests that there is a temporal component to the repeated spatial movements flown by foraging wild hummingbirds.

Nowadays seakeeping is mostly analyzed by means of model testing or numerical *** require a significant amount of time and the exact hull geometry,and therefore seakeeping is not taken into account at the early stages of ship *** the main objective of this work is the development of a seakeeping prediction tool to be used in the early stages of ship *** tool must be fast,accurate,and not require the exact hull *** this end,an artificial intel-ligence(AI)algorithm has been *** algorithm is based on Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs)and only requires a number of ship coefficients of *** methodology developed to obtain the predictive algorithm is presented as well as the database of ships used for training the *** data were generated using a frequency domain seakeeping code based on the boundary element method(BEM).Also,the AI predictions are compared to the BEM results using both,ship hulls included and not included in the *** a result of this work it has been obtained an AI tool for seakeeping prediction of conventional monohull vessels.

Comparison of lipid extraction methods for the microalgae Acutodesmus obliquus

Microalgae are widely used in the pharmaceutical and energy industries,therefore the conditions for their cultivation and extraction methods play an important role in the profiling and acquisition of *** efficiency of lipid extraction from microalgae has attracted great interest from industry because of the wide variety of lipids and amounts that can be *** obliquus(Scenedesmus obliquus UTEX 393)was used in this *** was cultivated in Bold 3N medium modified with 75%nitrogen at 25℃,pH 6.8,125 r/min and a photoperiod of 18/6 h and illuminated with white light provided by a Light-Emitting Diode Surface Mount Device extensions(LED SMD)with an intensity of 1200μE/(m^(2)·s).The cells were stained with the Red Nile(RN)technique to indicate lipid *** extraction methods were compared,classical,microwave(MW),Soxhlet,and ultrasound(US),using the same solvent proportions(hexane:chloroform:methanol=1:2:3).All samples were analyzed with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR)and Gas Chromatography coupled to Mass Spectrometry(GC-MS).The results showed:1)lipid production detected by RN was consistent with microalgal growth;2)the MW technique was the best extraction method,according to the statistical analysis through Randomized Complete Block(RCB)design and performance of 4.6%;and 3)the presence of saturated and unsaturated acids was indicated by FTIR ***-MS was able to identify palmitic and linoleic acids as the likely major constituents of the sample.
