We examined the mycobiota associated with Vismia guianensis leaf.litter in three Atlantic f.rest remnants of.Brazil＇ s semiarid region. Among the study sites, two remnants were protected f.rest reserves, whereas the third was inf.uenced by major anthropogenic activities. Eighteen litter samples were collected in wet and dry seasons and were processed by particle f.ltration technique. A total of.4750 f.ngal isolates of.142 taxa were identif.ed. Species richness was higher in litter samples collected during wet season. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling multivariate analysis showed dif.erences in the composition of.f.ngal communities among the sampling sites and the seasons. Analysis of.similarity showed that the dif.erences were statistically signif.cant （R = 0.85; P = 0.0001）. Our f.ndings revealed that spatial and temporal heterogeneity, and human activities had signif.cant impacts on the saprobic f.ngi of.V. guianensis leaf.litter.

The applicatio n of.nano particles as selective drug delivery platf.rms arises as one the most promising therapeutic strategies in the biomedical f.eld. Such systems can encapsulate drugs, prevent its premature degradation, transport and promote the drugs specif.c delivery to the target site. Among the dif.erent nanostructures, gold-core mesoporous silica shell (AuMSS) nanorods have been one of.the most explored due to their unique physical and chemical properties. The mesoporous silica biocompatibility, high surf.ce area that can be easily f.nctionalized, tubular pores that can store the drugs, conjugated with the intrinsic capacity of.gold nanorod to absorb near-inf.ared radiation, allows the combination of.hyperthermia (i.e., photothermal ef.ect) with drug delivery, making them a nanoplatf.rms with a huge potential f.r cancer therapy. Nevertheless, the successf.l applicati on of.AuMSS nanoparticles as an ef.ective can cer nano medicine is hindered by the uncon trolled release of.the therapeutic payloads, limited blood circulation time and unf.vorable pharmacokinetics. In this review, an overview of.the modif.cati ons perf.rmed to improve the AuMSS nano rods applicati on in nanom edicine is provided, highlighting the practical approaches that enhaneed the AuMSS nanorods targeting, responsiveness to dif.erent stimuli, and blood circulation time. f.rther, the basics of.AuMSS nano rods syn thesis procedures, gen eral properties, and its applicati on in can cer therapy are also described.

This work reports on f.uid f.ow in a f.uid-saturated porous medium, accounting f.r the boundary and inertial ef.ects in the momentum equation. The f.ow is simulated by Brinkman-f.rchheimer-extended Darcy f.rmulation （Df.）, using MAC （Marker And Cell） and Chorin pressure iteration method. The method is validated by comparison with analytic results. The ef.ect of.Reynolds number, Darcy number, porosity and viscosity ratio on velocity is investigated. As a result, it is f.und that Darcy number has a decisive inf.uence on pressure as well as velocity, and the ef.ect of.viscosity ratio on velocity is very strong given the Darcy number. Additional key f.ndings include unreasonable choice of.ef.ective viscosity can involve loss of.important physical inf.rmation.

AIM: To identif. demographic and clinical f.ctors asso-ciated with disabling Crohn's disease (CD). METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysisof.observational studies, f.cusing on the f.ctors that can predict the prognosis of.dif.erent outcomes of.CD was undertaken. PubMed, ISI Web of.Knowledge and Scopus were searched to identif. studies investigat-ing the above mentioned f.ctors in adult patients with CD. Studies were eligible f.r inclusion if.they describe prognostic f.ctors in CD, with inclusion and exclusion criteria def.ned as f.llows. Studies with adult patients and CD, written in English and studying association between clinical f.ctors and at least one prognosis out-come were included. Meta-analysis of.ef.ects was un-dertaken f.r the disabling disease outcome, using odds ratio (OR) to assess the ef.ect of.the dif.erent f.ctors in the outcome. The statistical method used was Mantel-Haenszel f.r f.xed ef.ects. The 16-item quality assess-ment tool (QATSDD) was used to assess the quality of.the studies (range: 0-42). RESULTS: Of.the 913 papers initially selected, sixty studies were reviewed and three were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis. The global QA-TSDD scores of.papers were 18, 21 and 22. Of.a total of.1961 patients enrolled, 1332 (78%) were classif.ed with disabling disease f.ve years af.er diagnosis. In two studies, age at diagnosis was a f.ctor associated with disabling disease f.ve years af.er diagnosis. Individu-als under 40 years old had a higher risk of.developing disabling disease. In two studies, patients who were treated with corticosteroids on the f.rst f.are developed disabling disease f.ve years af.er diagnosis. f.rther, perianal disease was f.und to be relevant in all of.the studies at two and f.ve years af.er diagnosis. f.nally, one study showed localization as a f.ctor associated with disabling disease f.ve years af.er diagnosis, with L3 being a higher risk f.ctor. This meta-analysis showed a signif.cantly higher risk

BACKGROUND: Urgent airway management is one of.the most important responsibilities of.otolaryngologists, of.en requiring a multidisciplinary approach. Urgent surgical airway intervention is indicated when an acute airway obstruction occurs or there are intubation dif.iculties. In these situations, surgical tracheostomy becomes extremely ***: We retrospectively studied the patients who underwent surgical tracheostomy f.om 2011 to 2014 by an otolaryngologist team at the operating theater of.the emergency department of.a tertiary hospital. Indications, complications and clinical evolution of.the patients were ***: The study included 56 patients(44 men and 12 women) with a median age of.55 years. The procedure was perf.rmed under local anesthesia in 21.4% of.the patients. Two(3.6%) patients were subjected to conversion f.om cricothyrostomy to tracheostomy. Head and neck neoplasm was indicated in 44.6% of.the patients, deep neck inf.ction in 19.6%, and bilateral vocal f.ld paralysis in 10.7%. Stridor was the most f.equent signal(51.8%). Of.the 56 patients, 15 were transf.rred to another hospital. Among the other 41 patients, 21 were decannulated(average time: 4 months), and none of.them were cancer patients. Complications occurred in 5(12.2%) patients: hemorrhage in 3, surgical wound inf.ction in 1, and cervico-thoracic subcutaneous emphysema in 1. No death was related to the ***: Urgent tracheostomy is a lif.-saving procedure f.r patients with acute airway obstruction or with dif.i cult intubation. It is a saf. and ef.ective procedure, with a low complication rate, and should be perf.rmed bef.re the patient's clinical status turns into a surgical emergency situation.
